Authorities say the inncident may be drug related. (AP Photo/ Pinal County Sheriffs Office)
(The Blaze/AP) – An Arizona sheriff says five bodies found burned beyond recognition inside the shell of a charred SUV are likely the result of drug cartel violence.
The bodies and vehicle were found in the Vekol Valley, a rugged, mountainous desert area that’s a well-known smuggling corridor for drugs and illegal immigrants headed from Mexico to Phoenix and the U.S. interior.
The bodies were so severely burned that investigators couldn’t even determine their gender or ethnicity. While it remains uncertain whether the victims were from Mexico, the sheriff’s department has notified the Mexican Consulate.
“Given all these indicators, you don’t have to be a homicide detective to add up all this information,” Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said Saturday.
A Border Patrol agent first spotted the white Ford Expedition driving at around 4:30 a.m, however, the SUV disappeared and federal and local law enforcement were unable to track it down. It is not clear why the vehicle drew attention from authorities in the first place.
At daybreak, an agent spotted tracks leading from Interstate 8 into the desert. The vehicle that left the tracks had apparently launched off the highway, going airborne for a short distance before landing in the desert. The tracks continued on for a couple of miles.
Agents could see the smoldering vehicle from a distance through binoculars.
Equipped with fire extinguishers, they approached the vehicle and found the charred corpses inside – one in the rear passenger seat and four lying in the back cargo compartment. The driver and passenger seats were empty. The sheriff‘s office didn’t say whether they got a look at the person driving the vehicle.
Babeu said investigators will try to determine whether the victims were dead before the SUV was set ablaze or whether they were alive when the fire was started.
“Clearly these people were murdered, but we don’t know the manner of death,” he said.
Babeu also said the extent of the violence, particularly in the western part of the country – roughly 35 miles south of Phoenix – is more evidence that drug cartels are still operating north of the Mexico border.
Pinal County deputies were involved in more than 350 high-speed pursuits last year, and Babeu said most of those involved cartel members. There have been shootings, the bodies of murder victims have been left in the desert and just this week, several loads of drugs were confiscated, he said.

As the instances of drug cartel violence continue stacking up inside the United States, the Department of Homeland Security still argues Mexico’s drug war has not spilled onto our borders.
DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano has repeatedly praised the Obama Administration and her department for implementing the most effective measures to secure the U.S. border in the country’s history.
“The Obama administration has undertaken the most serious and sustained actions to secure our borders in our nation’s history,” she said in her annual State of America’s Homeland Security address in January. “And it is clear from every measure we currently have that this approach is working.”
But as the saying goes, the first step to fixing a problem is admitting that you have a problem.

The border patrol pulls everyone over whether there is cause/suspicion or not. I was recently in Southeast Arizona and was stopped by a number of BP agents while hiking and driving. You are treated as guilty until they believe you are innocent. I had to fork over my Driver’s License and explain why I was hiking in a NATIONAL FOREST! I’m not lying when I say that the agent said, “Well, let us (there were two there) know if you see anyone around that looks like they are not from this country.” Ha! I was this close to saying, “Drive 10 miles back into town. Stop at the local KFC. It was ALL people that looked like they weren’t from this country, and I’ll bet half or more were illegal.”
I swear, the BP is as big a joke as the TSA.

Posted on June 3, 2012 at 4:16pmDon’t complain about the drug cartels then…
1. As long as you continue to constrain supply (while demand remains constant), then prices will remain artificially high….
2. When prices for any commodity are artificially boosted upward, then net profits are kept artificially higher as well…
3. When net profits are kept artificially higher, then this attracts even more criminals to the industry….
4. When more criminals are attracted to the industry, then the taxpayer has to cough up even more money to arrest dealers/smugglers…
5. When more money is spent to arrest dealers/smugglers, then supply is artificially constrained…..
6. Rinse and repeat (starting with #1 again)
All you are doing is providing an opportunity (essentially subsidizing their profit margin) for violent criminals which never existed before, so it’s no wonder that violent criminals all over the planet are falling all over themselves to cash in on the opportunity…
No matter how hard you try, you’ll NEVER be able to alter the laws of economics…..you might as well be trying to put handcuffs on the Earth’s gravity once you realize the futility of attempting to do so..
In the end, you’ll go bankrupt while you attempt to subsidize the net profits of the drug cartels.

How many gangs do you see these days involved in turf wars over the right to traffic/distribute/sell Budweiser?
During the 1920′s, folks were literally dying in the streets as territorial wars erupted over the right to sell/distribute bootleg liquor….
So if what you say is actually true, then I would expect the cartels in Mexico to be caught repetitively smuggling Budweiser into the U.S….
But we don’t see that, do we?
Why don’t we ever hear about the cartels ever caught with shipments of Budweiser being smuggled into southern Arizona these days??

China legalized opium after losing two wars against Britain & being forced to legalize it by treaty.
First Opium War (1839–1842)
Second Opium War (1856 – 1860)
China was seen as a ‘sick man’ among nations.
Chinese laborers were seen as a bunch of druggies by many in the American public.

———————————————————
Report Post »“With the advent of NAFTA, the drug gangs expanded into many legitimate businesses which could be used for smuggling. U.S. officials have reported on their purchase of airlines, trucking companies, new and used car dealerships, petroleum transport corporations and others. However, the increasing use of intermediaries as owners have made it almost impossible to trace their activities in detail. Operations of this size could not be carried out without at least the passive cooperation of key government agencies. In fact, corruption of the Mexican authorities by the drug cartels is notorious. A former Baja California Mayor showed how hopeless enforcement is by stating that he could pay police $ 300 per month while the drug cartels were offering $1,000 per week”

I dont think there is any Republican that can honestly beat Obama at this point. He has tons of money and too many supporters on the government dime to lose. The GOP is splintered into real conservatives(Ron Paul supporters) and the blame Obama crowd( the rest of the people). Romney has zero chance beating Obama without the support of the Ron Paul people. Wheather it’s Romney or Obama, i think we’re running a real possibility of completely losing our country, but i believe with Obama at the helm, there’s no chance of salvaging anything, where with romney, there’s a chance (albeit a very small one) at salvaging our country from this nightmare.
