RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Animal services officers in California are looking for the owner of a 5-foot-long lizard that was found wandering around a condo complex.
Animal services spokesman John Welsh says someone spotted the wayward lizard in Riverside on Tuesday afternoon. He says Officer Jenny Selter put a catch pole around its neck while a police officer grabbed the reptile’s body. They then slipped it into a compartment of Selter‘s vehicle that’s usually used for carrying large dogs.
Welsh says the animal is well-behaved for a Monitor lizard, and it likely has been someone’s pet for a long time. He suspects it escaped from its cage, perhaps while its owner was away, and hopes someone will claim it soon.
Black-throated Monitor lizards are carnivorous and native to the grasslands of Africa.

Report Post »I would not recommend getting a “Lap Lizard”.
Lizards always say “Chihuahuas taste like chicken”.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 12:32pmYou’d be amazed at how many of these and other large lizzards and snakes roam this country. While living years ago in SW Florida and working for a limo service I’d see this huge lizzard (no not an allegator) by the side of the road into SW Regional Airport at Ft. Myers quite often, and yes there were gators too and wild hogs.

I bet some government beaurocrat forgot to remember to load it‘s monthly government funds unto it’s Federal approved Platinum Diamond and Gold Food Stamp Credit Card.
I‘m surprised the beast was not more pissed off since the the state food bank turned it away because it was not wearing it’s DADT Monitor tag around it’s neck

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 9:51amCalifornia may have a noah’s ark flood. CA may have greece like financial issues with higher taxes, destroying commerce in the state. A stupid lizard walks the street. Journalism at it’s finest Glenn.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 7:57pmYou have to change it up and lighten it up once in a while or you will go over the edge. So what if this story is not about the leftist communist agenda. It is like when you go to the night club at the end of the night of playing hard rock or other dance style music you end it with slow dancing so that people can go home in a mellow and connected mood…
