‘50 Million Dollar’ Man: Michael Moore Heckled by Occupiers

Michael Moore may sympathize with the 99 percent, but he got a bit of a rude reminder that he isn‘t one of them at a rally in New York city’s Zuccotti Park on Saturday.

Moore reportedly decided to go for a personal meet-and-greet with Occupy protesters, and while he snapped multiple photos with adoring fans, there was also some discontent after his speech as some hecklers called him “50 million dollar, Halliburton invested Michael Moore.” Presumably, the latter accusation refers to a story from 2005 that Moore once owned Halliburton stock.

Michigan Live found the YouTube (seemingly taken by an Occupy sympathizer) of the heckling, and Reuters gives us some excerpts from Moore’s remarks:

[Occupy Wall Street] continues to draw celebrities, however. On Saturday night, independent filmmaker Michael Moore strode through the park before the police incursion.

“I think it’s great that this movement continues to grow,” Moore said. “I think the goals are clear. People are concerned that they have no control over their own democracy. They have no control over their own lives.

“This is the beginning. This park is sacred ground for millions across the country.”

      The people gathering in the street protesting, or the ones who sit on their couches stuffing their faces with mac n cheese watching dancing with the stars, who couldn’t even tell you who the vice prez is?
      Whether you agree or not with these people, they are taking action. It may be the wrong action, but they can be educated. Just like we all can be educated.
      You can’t just paint a group of people like that with a broad brush. That‘s the simpleton’s view.

      If you watched the video, you would hear that there are Ron Paul supporters there trying to educate some of these folks about TRUE free market solutions and the need for strict adherence to the Constitution. I would bet that is more productive than what you’re doing.

      If you’re not p!ssed off, you’re not paying attention. At least these people are paying attention and trying to do SOMETHING. You’ve been dumbed down and polarized, so that you could be more easily controlled by the few.

Yes these occupiers are the “useful idiots” but they have been programmed for years, used for years, decades I should say. No we don’t agree with violence and burning anything, but we have to spread the truth about our Republic, and our Constitution, do soldiers die on foreign soil to uphold the UN Contract for America, do we pay our taxes to set up Saddam then take him out, where is our Gold Standard, where is the gold that is to keep our spending at bay, and make our dollars worth something, who is asking the real questions.

      By not knowing the truth, by not researching and asking the hard questions, who controls our money and why?       You make a solid point about getting involved and doing something about “it”. My issue that concerns me greatly is simply this…..even if Ron Paul supporters are there in number the underlying phillosophy that is at the heart of the argument OWS is trying to make is politically, socioeconomically at 180 degree odds with strict adherance to the “free market” and the US Constitution. A 50/50 mix of Fed medaling since the mid 50′s onward (when the post war boom allowed a rapid expansion of upward mobility) has got us to where we are now, at the precipice of disaster.

      What OWS represents is a false choice at best and a cruel lie at worst for the very folks that support such actions and would agitate vigorously for the 99% vs the 1% have willingly delegated , nay relegated thier own future to a Gov’t beaurocrat to decide what is best for them. This road is short and ends badly.
