The backlash against Chick-fil-A has been profound. But as the negative press continues to flow, some conservatives are beginning to step out and defend the fast food chain.
We already told you about Sarah Palin’s tough words for those seeking to ban the restaurant from local communities. Evangelist Billy Graham, too, has weighed in as has former presidential candidate Rick Santorum. And today, hundreds of thousands of Americans are pledging to stand by Chick-fil-A amidst calls for the restaurant to be banished from cities across the nation.
Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas and a 2008 presidential candidate, created an event called “Support Chick-fil-A.” After posting the initiative on Facebook, nearly 586,000 people have pledged to show up to make their voices heard in defense of the company’s First Amendment rights. The Christian Post provides more information about the event:
Led by former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day has gained the support of influential Christian leaders including evangelist Billy Graham.
The public event was created in response to the backlash the restaurant was facing after its president, Dan Cathy, affirmed his belief in traditional marriage, or the “biblical definition of the family unit.”
His comments were made to the Biblical Recorder, a Baptist publication, and they have been met by protests from the LGBT community, with some elected officials, including the mayor of Boston, threatening to block the company from opening a restaurant in their city.

Chick-fil-A has remained quiet in recent days, despite the outrage that continues to center upon Cathy’s words. The Appreciation Day is not endorsed by the company and individuals or family members directly related to Chick-fil-A are not involved.
In a Facebook event posting, Huckabee explained why he has taken charge to launch the day of support:
I have been incensed at the vitriolic assaults on the Chick Fil-A company because the CEO, Dan Cathy, made comments recently in which he affirmed his view that the Biblical view of marriage should be upheld. The Cathy family, led by Chick Fil-A founder Truett Cathy, are a wonderful Christian family who are committed to operating the company with Biblical principles and whose story is the true American success story…
The Chick Fil-A company refuses to open on Sundays so that their employees can go to church if they wish. Despite the pressure from malls, airports, and the business world to open on Sundays, they still don’t. They treat customers and employees with respect and dignity.
I ask you to join me in speaking out on Wednesday, August 1 “Chick Fil-A Appreciation Day.” No one is being asked to make signs, speeches, or openly demonstrate. The goal is simple: Let’s affirm a business that operates on Christian principles and whose executives are willing to take a stand for the Godly values we espouse by simply showing up and eating at Chick Fil-A on Wednesday, August 1. Too often, those on the left make corporate statements to show support for same sex marriage, abortion, or profanity, but if Christians affirm traditional values, we’re considered homophobic, fundamentalists, hate-mongers, and intolerant…
Huckabee went on to tell participants not to “be angry or engage in a verbal battle.” Instead, he encouraged the hundreds of thousands of supporters to show their appreciation for Chick-fil-A and to stand up for the company’s values. Supportive activities might include showing up to purchase food from the business or simply tweeting or Facebooking messages of support online, Huckabee wrote.

“We are for the freedom of Americans to speak their mind and practice their faith,” Huckabee explained on Facebook last week. “There is no need to lower ourselves into childish name-calling and screaming. That is what people do when they can’t defend or explain their point of view.”

Why are people who have a differing view than yours on the left, bigots?
Why is it ALWAYS the position of the “so-called” open-minded lefties that if you have a different opinion, then you‘re branded as a ’bigot’, a ‘racist’, ‘narrow-minded’?
Seems to me that because the left won’t entertain any belief or opinion other than their own, THEY are the narrow-minded ones….

But the bigoted and hateful comments from the left that always cry out for social justice will be against anyone who is a Christian, funny that they claim not to believe in God but are fulfilling biblical prophecy by their actions , lovers of themselves and God Haters. Chick fil a has not been accused of any crime against the gay community , but because of the belief of Dan Cathy whom I support and I will be going to Chick Fil La today,( better than KFC) The President who supports the Gays over God word has made an eternal choice.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 11:47amWHY SHOULD THIS CHANGE BETWEEN NOW
AND NOV, EXCEPT IN OBAMA’S FAVOR?
President Obama leads Mitt Romney among likely voters in Ohio and Florida – and has a double-digit lead in Pennsylvania – according to a Quinnipiac University/CBS News/New York Times poll released this morning.
The poll, conducted from July 24-30, shows Mr. Obama leading his presumptive Republican challenger 53 percent to 42 percent in Pennsylvania. The 11-point lead results largely from independents, who favor the president by 22 points, and women, who favor the president by 24 points.
Mr. Obama holds a six-point lead in Ohio, 50 percent to 44 percent, a state where he holds a campaign event later today. His lead here is also due in large part to women, who back him by a 21-point margin. Romney leads by ten points among Ohio men, and seven points among Ohio whites.
In Florida, Mr. Obama also holds a six point lead, 51 percent to 45 percent. He holds a small lead among both men and women and a 19-point lead among Hispanics, while Romney leads by double-digits among whites and voters age 65 and above.

I don’t understand why it is bigoted to point out that this behavior is not natural or advised by God, in fact it is condemned by God. God loves all of us but he gives us a choice to make to in order to live with him in heaven. The Christians I know want as many people to live in heaven as possible, so they will point out to anyone who will listen how to get there. By extension Christians hate the sin and love the sinner. CFA’s president holds his beliefs. His company doesn’t discriminate in who they will hire or serve. You may hold your beliefs. And if you can’t live and work (or eat) with people you disagree with – though I find you childish – then don’t!

I’m not aware of your religious belief, so I thought I’d just piggy back a little on what you said. Why is it that many ‘Christians’ on this site believe it is okay to call homosexuals perverts and abominations? Is it because they refer to an inaccurate version of the Biblical text? I can bet that many here haven’t even touched on the older versions of the text in their original languages. As many know languages don’t translate to another very easily. Many things have to be taken into account, such as culture. Therefore, referring to a modified version of text that was translated many times doesn‘t make sense seeing as it’s not actually HIS words.

People just can seem to be ‘Gay’. They have to announce it to the world and expect everyone else to embrace it and be “open-minded” towards their choice. Why? Who cares? I don’t!
It‘s almost like they’re looking for acknowledgement, approval, and praise because they’re ashamed of who they are. Again, I don’t care! I‘m tired of hearing how I have to support and encourage someone who doesn’t live the way I do. I’m not going to do it. You live your life and let me live mine!!

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 4:34pm@encinom – You are completely missing the point here. The reason you should go to Chick-Fil-A today is to show liberals that they cannot shut down a legitimate business just because the owner is a Christian with traditional values. Chick-Fil-A never asked for this fight. This was brought to them by bigots on the left. When Mayors and other elected officials threaten a business’s existence just because of the religious beliefs of its owner, freedom loving people everywhere must speak up loudly and defend that business. If the suppression of your rights is not an abomination to you that gets you up out of your seat in protest, then you will eventually lose them.

They’re disgusting. But I can bet one thing and that is if people stopped giving gays attention they wouldn’t want to prance around in that given spotlight. Homophobes make those select few homosexuals you see at those parades and prancing about to want to do more of it. Homophobes are just as much a nuisance as homosexuals that push their sexuality into others’ lives. They are literally no different because homophobes like to have their idiotic voices heard about how their views are far superior to anyone else’s. I still find it ridiculous that so many ‘Christians’ on this site find the need to reference the ‘Holy Bible’ which they’re not accurately reading. Mind you, I can put money on it that those homophobes were having sex before they were even married and probably did a lot of it. I can put money on other things they’ve probably done and still do. Most of the homophobes that call themselves ‘Christian’ on this site swear to it that they’re better than other people. It‘s sad because they’re worrying about how they think the world is going down the toilet when they’re only helping push the lever.

It felt good to be there. It will be interesting to see how this event shakes out nationally. Yes, I quite agree: that does leave a bad taste in my mouth. You know what else leaves a bad taste in my mouth? Arrogant, self-righteous moonbats who grandstand by promising acts like banning Chick-Fil-A franchises from their cities because they disagree with the CEO‘s honest difference of opinion when they know they can’t do any such thing. They attempt to ban Chick-Fil-A, they get sued *big time*, and they will lose, costing the taxpayers $BIG BUX unnecessarily.
If you disagree with Mr. Cathy’s opinion, the appropriate response is a press release saying that you RESPECTFULLY (emphasis on respectfully, but what would moonbats know about that?) disagree with his position concerning gay marriage. If you absolutely can’t abide by his opinion, then stay out of Chick-Fil-A. Go to KFC or Church’s instead. No one’s forcing you to shop there, or anywhere else.

Posted on August 3, 2012 at 11:14pmBigotry and hypocrisy have nothing to do with it. Chick-fil-a merely has an opinion that it made public. It’s those who practice homosexuality that are attempting to force something onto another when they did their pda stuff in front of Chick-fil-a.
Conservatives merely state an opinion, and the left then attempts to force the right, by law, to accept the left’s opinion.
I mean the left is trying to ban Chick-fil-a for their religious beliefs regarding homosexuality.
The left is truly naive. They have absolutely no idea what they’re actually progressing towards. They’re literally like children who think that it could never happen to them, so they’re perfectly comfortable taking the rights of those who disagree with them. But it will bite them hard one day. Only difference though is the left won’t see it coming while the right already sees that day on the horizon.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 9:22amI’m going to Chik-fil-A for dinner tonight. It is the only company I know of that is CLOSED on Sunday but yet remains a viable company. Shows that you don’t need to stay open 24/7 to be succeessful.
But the CEO spoke about his views of marriage. He didn’t bash the LGBT community. Just gave his OPINION as to what marriage should be. Leave it to the press and the far left LGBT community to blow this way out of proportion and try to destroy a company that I, and many others, respect.
Some years ago, Florida (of which I reside) passed a law that granted LGBT couples to marry (since repealed). The first ones to act were a lesbian couple. A little less than a year later, they divorced. I would say that is not helping their cause. Ya wanna be married? Then work on staying married. No one said it was easy.
Here’s a thought. Make divorce illegal.

While this idea sounds nice at first glance, it got old pretty quick when there were no places to go, and nothing to do on Sundays other than go the Church. BORING. You had to plan ahead your shopping (which wasn’t a form of entertainment), knew the groceries you needed for the week and didn’t stop for a cup of coffee on the way to work. Now, we have declining church membership, 24/7 convenience stores, and families who don’t eat together and social contact has been reduced to texting or telling everybody what you bought or what event you went to on Facebook.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 9:14amI do not have the interest or time to blow on an addiction to the social media. Too busy with research and writing books, as well as activism. However, I have always been a strong fan of Chick-fil-A, its customer service, the quality of its food, the cleanliness of its restaurants, and the corporate culture. This latest nonsense prompted me to contact everyone who reads my writings or listens to my ramblings and urge them to greatly step up their patronage of this chain.

What princip(LE)s (?) (T)here (ARE) no princip(LE)s in backing groups that seek to deny fellow Americans equal rights. There are no princip(LE)s in stand(ING) for ignorance and bigotry. CFA is going to be a side note in history, much like the (DINERS) in the South that refused to allow African Americans to sit at the counters.
Quit acting like an elitist if you aren’t versed in elementary spelling and grammar. Also quit arguing like a liberal. Using lines like ‘standing for ignorance and bigotry’ are cute bylines, but couldn’t be further from the truth. If you want to actually talk about the issue, talk about the issue. Don’t be the classic close minded liberal – ‘my opinion is correct, every other opinion is stupid, or bigoted, or racist’
On point, where does the Constitution protect someone’s right to marry? That is not a basic human right, no less than allowing pedophiles the right to marry underage girls is a protected right. The family and marriage are societal institutions for a reason. They are the building blocks of society. Civilizations, religious or otherwise, have shunned these behaviors for a reason, they do not contribute to the continuance of society (looking at it from a purely secular position). Besides, what would Darwin say about gay marriage? Only the fit and strong pass on their genes. So what is it, gay marriage, or evolution. Which do YOU believe in, because they certainly contradict.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 4:08pmHey MONK, O’Reilly ran some short spots of older interviews last night as he did Monday night. Mr T and that ad was one of them, so I looked it up on You Tube. Mr T basically said that was never the intent of the commercial. It was one in a series showing Mr T going after guys acting wimpy while playing off his tough guy image from The “A” Team. I recall those ads from several years ago, and I remember seeing this one just once before the ACLU jumped all over it. It was the ACLU who made the accusations of potential homophobia even before the gays had a chance to organize a complaint. Snickers and Mars Candy Company pulled it right away. If you pull up the video again, go ahead and link to the other commercials, I think the one with Mr T in the Huey is the funniest one. I don’t know who made the PVC Gatling Gun, but the series starts off with Mr T inside a closed garage like they used to be in the show putting things together. Notice the hand crank is a bike pedal and crank arm.
Report Post »We got out of my appointment only a few minutes after noon and took off toward the nearest Chick-Fil-A and we could not even get very close to it. The drive through had a line several blocks long, and what I could see, the place was packed, but did not see any demonstrators as the newspaper had reported since it was involved trying to organize such demonstrations. All of the parking lots around the restaurant were also packed and none of these businesses were trying to attempt to discourage this

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 4:16pmHey MONK, continued.
Report Post »We moved on to the mall entering from one end of the main corridor. Before we even got that close to the fountain pool in the center corridor intersection we could easily see beyond it the crowd was too deep in our direction from the restaurant and crossed the width of the corridor completely. What struck me was that everybody seemed very orderly, and it was almost eerily quiet. No sign of a demonstration there either. But, I suspect since it is private property, they would not deal with it.
We did pick up a bag of Snickers which is in the freezer right now. Will have one shortly.
Hope everybody else fared better. I just could not stand up that long to even attempt to stay in line. Instead, Chick-Fil-A and the Cathy family has my moral support. Will try again this Saturday.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 4:44pmMULLET MAN, Have to agree with you on that. When I sat down at my desk last night the TV was already on the O’Reilly show and an old Mr T interview come on shortly afterwards with this ad. I cracked up because I had only seen it once before the stink that the ACLU raised. Found it on You Tube right away along with others. Just type into the You Tube search, Mr T Snickers Commercials and check them all out. I was laughing so hard at them all last night. As I was telling MONK above, the one with him in the Huey if the funniest….in my humble opinion. If you get the chance to check them out, I’m sure you will find them all funny.
Report Post »BTW, I am a Christian and respect the traditional marriage values, especially since the institution of marriage itself is a religious based institution. I was always taught to love the sinner, and if it is your desire to remain or become a homosexual, then that is your choice and there is certainly now no law against it. You do not need my support for your life style no more than many other life styles. I do not hate you in any way, I simply disagree with you. So be it. If you want contractual unions then go for it. Just don’t try to call it marriage based on religious teachings since the greatest majority of you are counter religion. Find your own secular meaning to your life style and maybe you will find more support, or at least a lack of disagreement from the remainder of us. Folks, it ain’t the same thing.

That would be a great way to boost the local police departments finances with all the tickets issued…

If enough ate there . . . today . . . it would serve to drown it out so much that it would be as though the kissers were in a crowded mall or public park. It would lose most of it’s meaning.
