‘60 Minutes’ to Air Interview With Ex-Navy SEAL Behind Bin Laden Raid Book: ‘This Book Is Not Political’

The former Navy SEAL who was there during the raid that killed Osama bin Laden told Scott Pelley during an interview with “60 Minutes” that despite it being an election year, his new tell-all book is not motivated by politics. Instead, he says “No Easy Day” is a tribute to the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and all the people who helped carry out the attack on the al-Qaeda leader’s compound, CBS News reports.

The author, who goes by the pseudonym “Mark Owen, will appear in his first interview on “60 Minutes,” Sunday Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. ET. His face will be concealed, his voice disguised.

Below are some of the excerpts provided by CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley:

Scott Pelley: How long was it before you got the call to go?

Mark Owen: We had a week off in Virginia Beach. And when I say “off,” it wasn’t completely. But we had a week– a week off at home– conducted one more rehearsal, day of training on the life-size mock up. And then we got the word that we were going.

Owen’s book was to be released on the anniversary of 9/11, but the release has been moved up to next week. There’s been criticism that the book is timed to influence the election.

Mark Owen: My worry from the beginning is, you know, it’s a political season. This book is not political whatsoever. It doesn’t bad mouth either party, and we specifically chose September 11th to keep it out of the politics. You know, if these– crazies on either side of the aisle want to make it political, shame on them. This is a book about September 11th, and it needs to rest on September 11th. Not be brought into the political arena, because this– this has nothing to do with politics.

Fox News was the first news outlet to publish Owen’s real name — many others followed suit. Owens has since received death threats, with some terrorist groups calling for his assassination. TheBlaze will not publish his real name.

Makes me a wee bit nervous he chose to do an interview with “60 Minutes”. Pssst I can see your face. Thank you Blaze for not revealing his name even though most of us know what it us.. that speaks volumes.

“Mark Owen” .. We as a Nation are Blessed to have Men in Uniform of your Caliber. You specifically have been in my prayers as well as our entire military and country. May God’s Richest Blessings Fall on You all the Days of Your Life. Thank you

Well good thing the blaze isn’t making it political. And I tend to have a different take and see it as an exceptionally dishonorable to make money releasing and promoting a book which calls into question one of the PRESIDENT’s clear accomplishments. And as I do often perhaps most folks hear would think differently if it was a Seal member mocking Bush for his pretending to be a real veteran. This is of course where the Republicans consistently loose the independents. You see we don’t have ideological filters that render us incapable of seeing lies for the sake of hurting the opposing candidate and getting elected as still lies. Newt G. today said that Democrats lie better than Republican’s tell the truth. But clearly he was not referring to Romney’s 2 cornerstone ads that are blatant lies. Those being Medicare cuts and Welfare to Work. The Medicare cuts were negotiated with providers to offset the increased payments coming from the 40 million uninsured who will now be able to pay. That is Medicare will no longer have to cover FREE RIDERS. Approving Welfare to work waivers for pilot projects which must show higher performance, tightens the work requirement rather than loosing it. And MA put in a request for a waiver while Romney was governor. Romney knows these ads are lies and those of you, even the good christians, who are honest know they are lies.

    Interesting pseudonym.

I wonder if it means; always hits his Mark and Owen it all to God and Country?

I find it disgusting that any American news outlet would publish the real name of the author of the book at this time. He did his duty in service to our Country and may now have to spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder. I would have to believe that Roger Ailes had to approve that action. What a shame.

The truth may or may not be political. But lies are almost always political.

Our military is full of heroes, and the best of the best is just that. God bless them and theirs!!

The Book may not be political, but the SEAL Ethos and Creed are the morals and value of only ONE political movement. And it ain’t Liberalism.

I have known many of these special operations folks and treated an occasional injury. They are the cream of the crop of the military. They sacrifice so much to do their jobs with integrity and professionalism. They are the tip of the spear and all have my deepest respect.
God bless them and God bless the families of those who died on 9/11.
