7.4 Quake Rocks Japan

TOKYO (AP) — Japan was rattled by a strong aftershock and tsunami warning Thursday night nearly a month after a devastating earthquake and tsunami flattened the northeastern coast.
Announcers on Japan’s public broadcaster NHK told coastal residents to run to higher ground and away from the shore.
The Japan meteorological agency issued a tsunami warning for a wave of up to 6 feet (two meters) after the magnitude-7.4 aftershock. The warning was issued for a coastal area already torn apart by last month’s tsunami, which is believed to have killed some 25,000 people and has sparked an ongoing crisis at a nuclear power plant.
Officials at the tsunami-ravaged Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant said there’s no immediate sign of new problems caused by the aftershock. Plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. said it evacuated two workers there and seven at a sister plant to the south that was not badly damaged.
Officials say Thursday’s aftershock hit 16 miles (25 kilometers) under the water and off the coast of Miyagi prefecture. The quake that preceded last month’s tsunami was a 9.0-magnitude.
Buildings as far away as Tokyo shook for about a minute.
In Ichinoseki, inland from Japan’s eastern coast, buildings shook violently, knocking items from shelves and toppling furniture, but there was no heavy damage to the buildings themselves. Immediately after the quake, all power was cut. The city went dark, but cars drove around normally and people assembled in the streets despite the late hour.
Paul Caruso, a geophysicist at the U.S. Geological Survey in Golden, Colo., said Thursday’s quake struck at about the same location and depth as the March 11 quake. It’s the strongest of the more than 1,000 aftershocks that have been felt since, except for a 7.9 aftershock that day.
The USGS said the aftershock struck off the eastern coast 40 miles (65 kilometers) from Sendai and 70 miles (115 kilometers) from Fukushima. It was about 205 miles (330 kilometers) from Tokyo.
A Pacific Tsunami Warning Center evaluation of the quake said an oceanwide tsunami was not expected. However, it noted quakes of that strength can cause waves that are destructive locally.

Posted on April 7, 2011 at 5:32pmPlease stop the nasty comments about the Japanese people. My son is married to a Japanese girl and she is amazing. She works very hard and is a wonderful wife and mother. You are right about their god but they need to be loved into the Kingdom not beat into it. They are living in Japan and I spent 3 weeks there last summer and the best thing about Japan was the people. They are kind and considerate and humble…we could take some lessons. (My son, daughter-in-law and grand daughter live near the Sea of Japan an are fine through all of this.) I pray everyday for their safety and for them to come to know Christ thru our family. So thanks to those who are praying and for your concerns for the Japanese people and their country. God Bless you!!!

Now I wonder if the uninformed San Jose Mercury News (paper) will run ANOTHER headline stating: “CHAOS IN JAPAN”…
According to my many friends in the seismic zone… there was never CHAOS in Japan, just destruction. CHAOS is what happened in New Orleans, or what is happening now on our Southern Border…. just sayin’!!!!

Poverty….you are a condescending arrogant piece of **** Do me a favor and dont even call yourself a believer. Have some compassion. Christ Did. Just because you think Christ is the only way ( and I believe that myself) doesnt give you the right to rub it in people faces in times of despair and destruction( well i guess you have the right, just not the brains or common sense to know how to be Christlike) You are no better than anyone else.

Posted on April 7, 2011 at 2:17pmGotta agree, attributing this kind of disaster to a “wrong” faith is just woeful ignorance, about on par with what Catholic theology “Invincible ignorance.” Leave religion-bashing to the leftists, please, or just go home and handle your snakes.
As to the other comment about Godless people living on the coast, about half the people in the world live in coastal area. Living in a mud hut in the prairie and watching CBN doesn’t make you a holy man.

Posted on April 7, 2011 at 11:23amI hope everyone is aware that these earthquakes that happen elsewhere cause other earthquakes – probably here in the near future. One that a lot don’t know about is the Madrid faultline that runs down the Mississippi River/Delta, along with the “big one” that most know about in California. Maybe it’ll “coordinate” with all the other chaos Glenn is predicting next month – mid May. That’s interesting. How is our disaster relief funds??? Buckle up, these next few years will probably be very, very….bumpy ride.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And your point is………..?
So, what about the Japanese women and children?
Do you really think that this is payback to the Japanese men just because of their attitude towards Caucasian women? So, what do you deserve for your attitude towards the Japanese? A Nobel Peace Prize?
Posted on April 8, 2011 at 12:22amHope they make it through this mess…
As for the whole Asian men have no respect for any women comment, it‘s all about their society’s point of view. Women are supposed to be subservient to men in their culture. Yes, alot has changed over time, it could be worse….
But as things changed, new problems arose. Nobody is getting married in Japan, their birth rate is way down. Young men are now becoming more feminine in their mannerisms than some of the women, and some of the women have taken on the role that men would traditionally partake in. Perversion is at an all time high with “Chikan” appearing everywhere from public restrooms to in the open at parks and other crowded areas. But to blanket every Japanese man for the perverted actions of others is unfair.
Personally, I blame the women for being so beautiful (and so girly too…) ^ ^, who can blame the men for falling for them? I can’t, but out of sympathy, I can’t stand to see a good woman in distress. Therefore, my home is open to the many Japanese women looking for sanctuary from the perverts at bus stops and elevators = )
Report Post »Neither of you really have it right. While some sources say otherwise, official census data shows that more than 90% of Japanese citizens practice Shinto (from my extremely limited knowledge of Japanese: “The Path of the Gods”), which does have multiple deities. Buddhist practices are mainly just mixed in, rather than being a separate, competing faith group.
Regardless of what they practice in terms of religion, that’s really no reason to wish death on them… Or whatever your comments were intended to do.
