7.8 Magnitude Earthquake 500 Miles Off Coast of New Zealand, Tsunami Triggered

UPDATE: Reuters reports the tsunami may have been destructive along the coastlines near the earthquake’s epicenter:

It struck at 7:03 a.m. on Thursday (1903 GMT on Wednesday) at the epicenter, 131 miles (211 km) east of Raoul Island, part of the Kermadec archipelago, and was only 30 miles (48 km) deep, the USGS said.

The Pacific Tsunami Center said waves were 2.2-2.7 feet (68-84 cm) high around Raoul Island.

The U.S. Pacific Tsunami Center said it estimated that waves would reach East Cape in New Zealand within two hours and Auckland within three hours of the quake.

The Kermadec Islands, which are New Zealand’s northernmost inhabited islands, are 500 miles (800 km) northeast of New Zealand’s North Island.

This is a breaking story, more details to follow…

    As I pray for those who may be effected by this quake, it strikes me how refreshing it is to read all the prayers and well wishes of those on this site sent out to those in need of them. Where else but American dose that happen on such a regular basis. Thank you all, your good people!

    the magnetic poles are about to shift, as is the gallup pole. it’s over for most of us. that explains the govt’s underground elite survival bunker under the denver airport. you tax dollars at work. impale maobama! How many poles does it take to screw in one GE lightbulb?

    I was in here while I was waiting for my friend from the North Island of New Zealand to come online. This is the first I heard of it and they are all in my prayers. Oh, I will be so glad when she signs on. It is about 8:00 a.m. their time now. Keep them in your prayers.

      ======================================

      Just a small point here. Australia is known as the land down under. New Zealand is not. They are not “mini Aussie-land.” They are Aotearoa; the land of the long white cloud. I spent two years living in Auckland in the late 70′s and never met anyone who appreciated being thought of as “just like Australia.” Even the accents are noticeably different (albeit slightly).

      My heart goes out for those who may be affected by this.

      You mean Snowleopard? I think probably that he, along with a lot of others, just got tired of liberals, such as yourself, and your bs. You won’t be seeing much of Tierrah, oldasdirt, jimmythebullet, My Sacred Honor, 82dAirborne, CatB, Grandmaof5 or me, either. We’ve gone to greener pastures, where there is a purpose.

      I just came over here to check the news, to see if I missed anything on the other sites.

      @BRUCEPee651 – what an @ ss.
      And, no, the world isn’t falling apart, the ‘Ring of Fire” is just acting up. It happens…bad things (for us) happen…this planet isn’t a cold and stable rock with no weather, no climate change, no earthquakes, etc…The Earth is dynamic and makes room for other things – it’s slow and, sometimes, unbelievable to us, but nothing for an infinite God.

    Google: Chinese Dam. China is building dams on all the rivers. They want future control of all water flowing out of China. The weight of some of these massive damns is actually affecting the earths rotation. Seems like a lot of earthquakes in that part of the earth???? Japan, New Zealand..now this one..I’m just wondering.

    Due to the North pole shifting at 40 miles a year towards Russia and beginning to move faster, we will see more earthquakes soon. The earth has shifted 10 degrees in a short period of time.

      Your screen name sums it all up. Our planet has NOT shifted ten degrees.Giving you the benefit of the doubt, I believe you meant our planet’s magnetic polar fields (North and South) are continually changing but not by ten percent..

      Great point. The reason we are shifting is due to a large mass in our system. Nibiru, Wormwood, Planet X, or the new excepted name by NASA is comet Elenin! Every time there is an alignment with this “comet” and the sun and the earth, or one of the other planets, we have a large quake. There was an alignment between the Earth, Saturn, the sun and “comet” Elenin yesterday and today. As this thing gets closer and prepares to leave the system, things will get more intense. September and October are when its closest to Earth. Prepare for a rough ride people!! This is why NASA has put out 2 PSA‘s warning it’s employees to prepare their households. Please read up and get informed! This all coincides with the different prophecy from every culture around the world. It’s funny how this “comet” just popped up and was recently discovered. Too many things are falling into place.

      Not the North pole that has shifted it is the magnetic north that is shifting causing a build up of heat under the arctic ocean warming the arctic waters which will plunge the northern hemisphere into the next ice age.

    Really sorry to hear this. New Zealand was one of the best places I have had the opportunity to visit and do some work in. Really great people, especially the Maoris. Auckland was a blast at night, after 10pm it was like a giant block party every night.

      THE WORLD IS GOING CRAZY RIGHT NOW… PROPHECY?

      If you watch the news there is literally one major, above 5.0 mag, earthquake every other day, literally. They are monitored everywhere but not reported by major news sources because of the frequency of these hits. I watch http://www.americanparchment.com for more than just politics and news, I look at it and places like the Blaze to see the possible future.There are interesting things happening around us everyday.

      I admit I know little about tsunami… but above it says,
      “The Pacific Tsunami Center said waves were 2.2-2.7 feet (68-84 cm) high around Raoul Island.”

      3 foot waves? misprint? or is this the size of the wave in the open ocean, not on shore?

      No misprint. That was measured onshore.

      It was a 7.6, not a monster 9 like Japan.

      BTW, the Tsunami warning has been canceled.
