MONTREAL (The Blaze/AP) — Police in Canada say 85 people have been arrested after thousands of students angry over tuition increases protested in
Montreal, with some smashing windows of businesses.
The rioting came after talks broke off Wednesday between the Quebec provincial government and student groups over the planned tuition increase of $325 a year.
The Montreal Gazette has more:
After two hours of peaceful protest, police declared the march illegal and the situation unravelled quickly.
Percussion bombs and pepper spray exploded at the corner of Peel and Ste. Catherine Sts., a car was set on fire at the corner of Stanley and Ste. Catherine Sts. and chaos ensued as the police started to push the crowd back using whatever tools they had in their arsenal.
Onlookers blamed a small group of protesters for instigating the trouble.
A standoff between mounted police and taunting protesters brought the crowd, estimated at about 5,000, to a dead halt at Drummond and Ste. Catherine Sts. and then the police intervention squad moved in banging their shields.
Officers in full riot gear marched up Peel St. and the air in the area was thick with pepper spray.
The talks broke off after the government ejected the most militant student group from the discussions.
Students swarmed the streets and fought with police over several hours. A police station, banks and other businesses had windows shattered.
Ironically, polls indicate Quebecers generally support the fee hikes.

Posted on April 27, 2012 at 8:26amAnarchists and members of the Black Bloc always find their way into legitimate demonstrations. Since they’re the ones who tend to break stuff, they ALWAYS end up on the news even if they represent 0,01% of the demonstrators

Posted on April 26, 2012 at 1:56pmDid you all notice all of the ‘RED PATCHES’ being worn by the students? Come May I think we will be seeing that here, along with the black bloc, unions and ows causing much trouble here! Be vigilant and prepared my friends, things could get very ugly here, very quickly!

Report Post »The Red Square is actually the symbol of the student movement in Quebec. They didn’t choose red because of its communist implications, but because they want to “stop” the tuition fee hikes (as in “red light”). Students who support the hikes (yes, they exist) wear green squares (as in “green light”). And just to keep things in perspective, the provincial government is actually doubling the annual tuition fees over a 5 year period.

Posted on April 26, 2012 at 8:12pmI noticed the same thing. I had to pause it. The first video had the guy with the anarchist symbol on the back of his jacket. The last video a guy walked in front of the camera with red commie star on his hat.
Report Post »They have a way of showing up to these events. Another reason I’d avoid large crowds these days.

Posted on April 26, 2012 at 1:48pmSimilar chaos is coming to a neighborhood near you beginning May 1 when OWS kicks off its kill capitalism campaign.
Glenn had on a segment that explained how the leaders of this group is using various factions….which includes the black faction and their acceleration of mob assaults…..to create violence, chaos and mayhem.
I was impressed with the credible information he revealed.
Get ready for a summer of violence, intensifying up to and including the Democrat National convention from the OWS crowd. Then look for more of the same from the black population if Zimmerman is acquitted as he should be next year.
And, the top economists are forecasting further imbalances in state budgets all over the country, creating austerity programs to accelerate for pensions and government personnel.
Ever get the feeling we’re fast approaching critical mass, and this empire is due to collapse?

It is interesting that most of these riots and protests occur in immoral and decadent neighborhoods. Neither lack of wealth nor race has anything to do with it; Moral decay is at the heart of all of these protests.

Posted on April 26, 2012 at 11:49amAt least the students in Canada are holding the right people accountable. Even if the tuition hike is economically responsible. Here, we’ve recently observed 0bama give a speech that essentially hooks the ring in the collective noses of our full of propaganda college students and has them believing it the fault of the lending institutions who loaned them the money to begin with, or naturally, the Republican party in general.

Posted on April 26, 2012 at 11:59amYes. It‘s part of Obama’s anti-rich/ anti-banks/ ANTI- Capitalism message This election boils down to that : Capitalism versus Big Brother’s anti-capitalism ( don’t know what the so-called Democrat “ progressives” call themselves, but their rhetoric sure smacks of the old Karl Marx teachings ! )…. Posted on April 26, 2012 at 11:29amThese colleges require so many courses not needed to excel in their major just to collect money from already strapped students. Build your own schools. Go into trades and expand. Who needs all that liberal indoctrination, anyway? Always learn the truth and the real history and laws. That way you will have it firmly on your side. Do not learn twisted versions of anything. Learn the truth. People have a tendency to twist things to suit their own agendas. You have only so much time in your life to get it right. Lean how to build and take care of yourselves. Pass it on. These idealists have nothing for you but pipe dreams and you just can’t eat them.

Posted on April 26, 2012 at 11:19amI really don’t see why these collage students should be complaining. These are just uber-liberal progressive professors who are demanding more of their money so they can spew and disseminate useless and incorrect information. They have been planning a “ revolution” in America for months. Been reading their ” grab your hoodie / we need a street revolution in America ” posts in the New York Times for the last year. Remember the London riots last August ? Same crew of anarchist/ Lefty wackos. These guys are all over the place. Like the Anonymous group: they like to hack, to break laws, to break rules, to break windows , to break down law and order. After all, that is the “ job” of a destructive, dysfunctional anarchist . A angry loser. Angry at everyone – especially those in “ authority” who try to make them behave. These guys all need serious counseling and anger management . Not going to happen because they have an agenda : destruction for the sake of destruction . Sad.
