A Smart-Mouthed, Gun-Toting, Cigar Smoking Hell Beast: This Actor Helped Fulfill One of Greatest Make-a-Wish Requests We’ve Ever Seen

While most people would do anything to avoid coming face-to-face with a towering, rock-fisted demon hell spawn, it was a dream come true for one leukemia patient.

Six-year-old Zachary was shocked and delighted after The Make-a-Wish Foundation, actor Ron Perlman, and special effects company Spectral Motion came together to grant him his big wish: to meet Hellboy.

“Zachary loved his visit for two very special reasons. It was Zachary’s wish to meet Hellboy and also to become Hellboy,” Spectral Motion’s Facebook page reads.

“When the Make-A-Wish Foundation contacted Spectral Motion with this request, Mike thought it would be fantastic to have Ron Perlman reprise his role for the day,” it adds.

Perlman, as you may have already guessed, played the loveable but frighteningly powerful Dark Horse Comics superhero in the live-action “Hellboy” (which is great fun) and “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” (which registers somewhere between disappointment and “meh”).

“Ron loved the idea and donned the makeup once more and also ordered a Hellboy sized meal of burgers, shakes, and fries for Zachary and his family and the entire Spectral crew to enjoy,” the Facebook page adds.

Perlman agreeing to suit up for Zachary is made all the more awesome when you consider the fact that it takes him about four hours to get into costume.

“Later in the day, Zachary was transformed into Hellboy with the assistance of makeup artists Lufeng Qu and Neil Winn,” according to the Facebook page.

Here are the photos of Zachary’s big day with Hellboy [via Spectral Motion’s FB page]:

“Another fan, Caleb, got a firsthand look at the animatronics behind some of the studio’s well-known creatures, which also have appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,” the report adds.

I hope the kid got the full red-face treatment and was able to take some pictures posing as Hell Boy Jr with Mr Perlman. Either way, this is very big hearted of Mr Perlman and his make up artist to spend the day making Zachary’s wish come true. Thank you all for making the world a better place.

This is very cool I hope for another Hellboy movie I like all of them so far, NHL HOF Goalie Eddie Belfour used to have the eagles nest at home and on the road for up to 10 kids at a time that either wanted to go to a game or meet him.

He is certainly a gifted actor. I loved the background material they have on the DVD for Hellboy.

“Where else can a fat, middle aged Jew be transformed into [Hellboy]?”

Some of his other great movie lines:
Blade II: “Well, like my daddy said right before he killed my mama, ‘If you want something done right, do it yourself.’”

      Alien: Resurrection:
Johnner: “Hey, Ripley. I hear you fought these things before. What did you do?”
      Ripley: “I died.”

He’s unusual in the pantheon of Hollywood actors in that he can play cruel, sadistic F*&^%s with equal skill and pathos as sympathetic heros. Most actors I see can do one well but suck at trying to be the other.

Proof positive that meaningful expressions of love still exist, and can get media coverage! Kudos to Ron and crew for this teachable moment. Humanity has potential, but my faith is in God. If you want hope, believe in Him. If you want change, follow His guidance – then roll up your sleeves.

It’s one thing to take some time out of your day to spend it with a dying kid to give their wish. Which, is absolutely commendable. However, it is a complete other thing to not only take time out of your day, but to spend part of it putting on a ton of miserable make-up just to make a kid happy.

    Faith in humanity, restored.

I generally like Mr. Perlman. His history is unique. Anyone involved with the Make A Wish Foundation has got to have a big heart and a selfless nature to donate precious time to these grateful children. I’ve worked as a volunteer at Texas Childrens Hospital in Houston and I know how it affects the young. It thrills them to no end to have a celebrity show up for the day. It’s a wonderful time for all. Thank you Mr Perlman and the blaze for this quiet, quick moment of fantasy.

The Hellboy movies are rated PG-13 and certainly aren’t appropriate for young children – I wonder if this little boy was allowed to watch them – seems a bit strange that he knows anything about the character.

Oh for heaven’s sake!!! He is a boy. And apparently not a wuss. My kids watched MANY movies which in their entirety were not appropriate. A parent can view it first, then skip the inappropriate parts on the DVD. It’s like parental “Clean Films”.

There are even sites where you can dub your own movies without the PG-13 parts.

It was rated PG-13 for the same type of comic book, punchy-fighty violence seen in Spider-Man and Avengers. You know, the kind of violence Progressive Nanny-staters get riled over when the see it in a Road Runner or Tom & Jerry cartoon and would have been seen in PG movies 30 years ago.

      Again…. lighten up, Francis.
