ABC: Is Obama America’s First Amish President?

Though the article passed relatively unnoticed after its original publication on Tuesday, ABC is rhetorically asking on its Facebook page today whether Barack Obama is the country’s first– you’ll never guess it– Amish president.
Why? Apparently, because his daughters are only allowed to use their cell phones on weekends, are banned from Facebook, can’t watch TV, and are only allowed to use the computer during the week when they have to do homework. Obama also said he is “too long-winded“ to use Twitter and likes to ”tape“ things on ”this—what’s it called, DVR.”

Clearly a play on being named America’s “first gay president” by Newsweek, ABC has seemingly only forgotten that a) the Amish live nothing like Obama, and b) the administration has actually caused some problems for the Amish in America.
This past June, for instance, a group of Amish men were sent to jail after refusing to mark their buggies with reflective triangles, and last April the Feds concluded a year-long sting operation against an Amish man who had the audacity to sell his unpasteurized milk locally.
Newsbusters’ Tim Graham aptly concluded, “Earth to ABC: the Amish generally prohibit power-line electricity — all the time, not just on the weekends.”
Not to mention, “Can you imagine Michelle Obama churning butter in a frock and a bonnet?”

An alert Blaze reader asks, “Uncle JZS, knower of all things, is it true that President Obama is actually anti-Amish? ConservativeTruthSeeker,your instincts are good to question this kind of thread. As far as the requirement to have orange triangle to alert drivers to slow moving vehicles, that law has been on the books for decades. The orange triangles are for the protection of the drivers of the slow moving vehicles as much as for the person who might run into them. Plus, President Obama, like all other past Presidents, doesn’t involve himself with enforcing traffic laws. Cops do that.
On the unpasteurized milk issue, that’s the FDA, not something the President of the United States deals with directly. The CDC says that unpasteurized milk can give you salmonella, E. coli and listeria as well as spread of typhoid fever and diphtheria. So it’s regulated.
Maybe that’s government overeach. But if your kid or grandma dies from salmonella, you’d probably not share that opinon.

I’m sure you understand this and are just think you are being funny here. If you’ll notice historically this idea of pulling over the Amish for not having reflectors on their buggies is rather new. Even though it‘s true Obama doesn’t directly enforce traffic laws, along with another group of crappy politicians he does pass them for the police to enforce. Furthermore there would be no reason to pull them over if not for overreaching government regulations. To use an extreme example, which I am in no way comparing to Obama, we don’t talk about times in the past like the Holocaust and the massacres of Mao as being the actions of an overzealous military, they are the actions of a dictator.
As far as the unpasteurized milk, whether it’s particularly healthy or not it is their choice and their right to drink it if they so choose. Yes it’s possible for it to cause things like salmonella but it has a lot to do with the freshness of the milk as well as how they choose to consume it. If you follow your logic they can outlaw swimming because pools and lakes cause drowning, they can outlaw ice cream because brain freeze hurts, they can outlaw cars because crashes kill people. You understand why we want to choke off the power of government when we see it growing?

That’s false. He doesn’t. And if you have evidence outside your febrile imagination that President Obama has told police to start enforcing these laws on the Amish, please post it here. Traffic laws are designed to protect people, not only the Amish but the people who might run into their buggies. You may think a person’s religion entitles them to jeopardize the safety of others, but most, including the courts, disagree. And you might believe it’s overreach to not allow a business to sell food that might hurt or kill the people who consume the food, but again, you’re on the wrong side of history. People don’t have a right to sell food that might but you in the hospital or kill you, or your kid or your grandmother. If that’s your idea of freedom, it’s a strange one.

It is known as the rumspringa when 16 year old Amish kids get kicked out of the community and get allowed to do basically whatever they wish for a couple of years. They have ask to be let back into the community later when they made their decision after sampling the sins of the ‘English’ world. So help me out with the Great faith and moral character.
