ABC News: ‘Hundreds of Thousands’ Attend 8/28 Rally

Let the numbers game begin.

The National Park Service stopped estimating the size of crowds in 1997.  They’d received a lot of criticism for saying the Million Man March drew only 400,000.

So this leaves the guestimation to the media. That always works out so well for conservative groups.

The initial AP reports put the number in the “tens of thousands.”

But ABC News has put the figure significantly higher:

Hundreds of thousands of people from around the country converged on a hot summer day at the National Mall to watch Beck and Sarah Palin talk about what they called “restoring honor.”

Any bets on who is first to use the words “half million?”

It was not easy to drop everything at the last minute, leave my wife, children, and friends behind. It was not easy to find the money to catch a plane bound for Washington, but I did. I am so very glad that I did. I have small children and a loving wife that supports me in everything I do, even deciding at the last minute to go to D.C. to support a cause that is slowly but surely catching like a wild fire.
I explained to my daughter that I would be gone for only “one sleep”, that’s how she counts days. I explained to her why I was going, even though at 2 years old I‘m pretty sure she didn’t understand, but she knew, “Daddy is going to Washington”, and when she told people that, she said it with Pride in her heart. She did not understand it, I believe she was guided by a feeling. A feeling that can only be described as, “The Spirit”.
My wife, as budget busting upset as she was, became surprisingly calm and made all of the flight arrangements for her father and I. I’m not sure how she did it, kind of afraid to ask, but she found the money to get us there and enough to sustain us for two days and one night. God Bless Their Hearts. My wife understands why we had to go, but is also a realist in the fact that she looks at the check book everyday and I do not.
My point is, They supported me, the cause, and the message that took place on August 28, 2010 in Washington D.C. at the Lincoln Memorial. They had Faith!
I cannot begin to describe what a feeling I had being around so many people who had made the pilgrimage from every corner of this wonderful Nation. We spoke with people from the west coast, the east coast, the south, the mid-west, and the common theme was, “We are waking up!”. Seeing all of the different types of people coming together with the same common ground was absolutely breath taking and overwhelming at the same time.
One my observations from the event was, the amount of Families that attended. It was so wonderful to see Families together, united by a common cause. So many times in today’s society we see broken families or families who go in opposite directions. Parents were teaching children and becoming a part of history. They were teaching them to become involved.
I will tell you, even with huge lines at the metro stations, metro cars absolutely packed with people like sardines, mobs of people flocking to the Lincoln Memorial, people protesting the event, I saw not one single ounce of a temper flare or hostility. Men got out of their seats for women and children on the metro, people squeezed in the metro car to get locals on because they had to go to work, and all the while with a smile on their faces. At one point the metro car I was on, broke out into a song, “God Bless America”, people barely had room to breathe, but found away to sing that song. I tell you it was wonderful.
I believe in my heart that our Heavenly Father was looking over every single person at that rally. You could not see him, but you could feel him!

The theme for this event was “Restoring Honor” through “Faith” “Hope” & “Charity”, this was absolutely a perfect fit. You see before our Government can be fixed our society must be fixed at an individual level. We must drop this feeling of being entitled to certain things. This society has become dependent on handouts from the government and when you do that, you are owned and controlled by the government. We start feeling as if we are owed these things. What have we done to deserve them? Government will become evil, it is it’s nature. That is why our founding father set up the government to be run by the governing people. When Honor is Restored at the level of the individual person, these handout programs will fail, because people will have a sense of Honor or Pride, people will work for what they have and the money they make. They will be individuals and not be owned and controlled by the government. People will stand up and say, “We do not need or want your handout”.
Hope, there is hope. Not the kind of Hope that was sold to many Americans by the current administration. The hope that this wonderful super power of a Nation can be restored to the Fullest Glory and continue to be a beacon of light for all who value FREEDOM. It is not too late for our country; many people would have you believe it is. It may be an uphill battle, but battles are to be won by hard work, hope, and honor.
Charity, charity is a must. I see charity every day. Of course I see it most prevalent in the church. There are those people who take advantage of charity, that is going to happen, but that does not stop charity. Man is compassionate by nature and we have Faith that our charity will help, it will never stop, with compassion comes charity. People in this nation do need help and are most often helped by charity. Charity is not a free ride! with Charity things are expected, like hard work to get to a point where Charity is not needed and to further its self to where the person who once received charity can now give Charity to another who may be in need. It is a circle that works if you have Faith.
Faith, we must have faith. Our nation’s restoration begins with Faith. Faith in a god, faith in mankind, faith in knowing that what you are doing as an individual will make a difference, and faith to keep Honor in your life. Morals will come with faith, it just happens that way. The million people that arrived in Washington D.C. on 8-28-2010 had faith in their hearts. You could see it on everyone’s face. People had a feeling inside of them, a warm feeling. I think everyone knows where this warm feeling came from, it was a message, not written or spoke, but understood.
Each and every one of us will Restore our Honor, and it is happening now. In fact it has been happening for a few years now, not just when the new administration took over. Restoring Honor is like starting a fire with flint and steel. Two hard surfaces must be hit together to form a spark. When this spark if fueled correctly will start to glow. The more fuel the bigger the spark grows, until the spark turns into an ember. Fueled even further the ember will erupt into a flame. It may be a small flame, but a flame no less. This flame then begins to take on a life of its own. The flame grows and grows and grows. Before you know it the flame is a fire and the fire cannot simply be blown out, it is a wild fire!
I think we are still in the ember stage right now. If we as Honorable Americans continue to battle the evil that has been creeping in for many many years, we will be Restored. We must continue to fuel this ember and grow into a wild fire and our change will come. This starts at the smallest level. Individual choices, choose to have Faith, choose to be Charitable, you already have Hope or you would not be reading this. Have morals, and stick to them.
Most importantly, Teach, teach your children to work hard and to have Honor, teach them our history and not the watered down version our government is teaching in schools. Teach them to understand what Freedom is and what our American Flag stands for. Teach our children the sacrifices our founding fathers went through. The children are our future, they will steer this ship back to port.
Our children are sponges and they are going to soak up every bit of information that is given to them. With Faith in a God and morals at their side they will have all the weapons they need to win this battle we are in.
This trip I took effected me in so many ways it cannot be described. My Faith in Humanity has been restored and I do not look at this battle in a negative light anymore because I know, through Faith that we will return to what our founding father intended.
I do not make every Titusville Patriots meeting, and probably won’t. But, in my very very small sector of life I will be practicing Honor, Faith, Hope, and Charity. My wife and I will teach our children to be proud and honorable people. Through our church and our example our children will learn what Faith is. We will teach our children to be proud of our nation. I will not apologize to foreign countries or anyone else for what our nation is, because the United States of America is the beacon of light for FREEDOM.
I do not typically put these thoughts of mine into a public forum, but after this weekend I have been prompted to do so. This is my individual opinion. May God Bless America!

Has anyone noticed that DANGLINGBAGS is always posting on this website, no matter what time of day.
He must be unemployed to have so much time to post
    .
Maybe he is employed just to agitated and harassing people that read the blaze. I do see that most of his post are just cut and paste from the democrats propaganda pages. nothing new.

I find it so amusing that anyone would be so dumb as to believe is that democrats propaganda crap.
It may be the first job he has had in 5 years.
There isn’t many jobs open for someone like him.

    What do you think?
Is DANGLINGBAGS just a stooge for the democrats?….

Shame on CBS for lowballing the estimate. Little wonder they are the 3rd of 3rd. How can you be a credible news organization when you get something like this really wrong!

Thank you Glenn for the eye, ear and heart opener. Two members of our local AFP chapter actually went all the way from Baker City, OR. Cudos to all! It was an awesome event!

So funny that the press is amazed at the turnout. Just goes to show how out of touch they are with “flyover country.”
God blessed that day. It truly is the beginning of a new Great Awakening.

The number of 500,000 has already been used. The inauguration of BHO was estimated at 700,000. My hopes are to hear the number of 700,000 +1.

Some of the group I arrived with never made it due to long lines at the metro station.

That’s why our group walked the two miles from Union Station. We were concerned about the Metro being overcrowded and we didn’t want to get stuck. I think some folks had to park much farther away, though, so walking may not have been an option. And thank God for the DC-Pedicab guy who saved me from passing out on my way back to Union Station afterward! I was so exhausted from walking in that heat that I knew I wasn’t going to make it much further and there he was…right when I needed him. Best $20 I ever spent! I gave him a $5 tip!

I cried because I couldn’t be there but I watched it from start to finish on C-Span. I also watched the “other” Rally and the difference was stunning. Glenn Becks event was inspiring and a beautiful sight to behold. The people were all wonderful and made us so proud to be Americans. Rev. Sharpton’s rally was mean-spirited, shallow, hateful and divisive. Thanks, Glenn, for all your efforts and hard work on pulling off the most inspirational event in recent history. God Bless You!!

Oh yeah…Sharpton’s a “policitian” with no office. I’m personally sick of all the racial nonsense. We‘re all part of the human race and it’s high time we start recognizing that. I’ll add that I believe the real reason why folks like Sharpton and others who do this sort of thing do so because if this country *truly* comes together and there is no tension among the races, then those “leaders” won’t be needed anymore.

It’s the same reason truly left-leaning folks like those in control of over government will never, ever truly solve the “problems” they so loudly proclaim to want to solve. Because if people were ever really self-reliant, if the folks who received help actually did gain their feet and then tossed off the government “help”, the ones who have the power now would lose that power. They never want to lose the power so they create these entitlement programs designed to keep the folks down. They want people down where they can be controlled by the handouts. Those programs train people to beg and fetch and those power hungry people who are so happy to promise anyone anything to gain their votes don’t just make me angry. I find them to be detestable.

People are not animals to be herded one way or the other and it sickens me to see them being treated as such.

People that can’t pick up there own trash, are the same people that are waiting for the Government to pay there bills, feed them and then complain it wasn’t fast enough. Bless those people at this rally. Not only did they respect each other, but our land and its beauty. It was a shame after the swearing in of the latest President, everyone went home to wait for government to show up to their door, to get their handouts

It was truly remarkable to attend this rally with my family. I was so cynical about our nation and especially the mean spirited, stressed out, and entitled people I have to deal with daily in Massachusetts. Each and everyone I talked to at the rally, on the subway, at our hotel pool or local restaurants were the kindest most caring individuals and it strengthened my resolve to continue to be the best person and best parent I can be.

I was awed by the crowd on Saturday! I am a native Washingtonian and have seen the Mall left in disgraceful condition after events. So, I am ecstatic that when it was my turn to be there, we left it with the respect it deserves, in great shape!

Yes, being there that day was all about respect. The Rally was an invitation to a very special place on sacred grounds. Finally, an event where one could safely take children to and actually learn about honor and merit. We so needed this, and I hope our troops who were unable to attend could watch it, too. Thanks so much, Glenn.

I saw some of Beck‘s footage on O’Reilly this evening, and it will be fairly easy with that high quality view to estimate crown size. Awesom Film – can’t wait for the DVD!

Personally I hope it’s a million, because I like Michelle Bachman.

I attended 8/28 and had the priviledge of talking with one of the outstanding Park Police officers. He said this is the biggest event that has ever been held. They had prepared for 300,000 and were overwhelmed by the size of the crowd. He also was thankful for how respectful and orderly everyone was. He also commented how clean everyone was keeping the grounds. I was so proud of my fellow citizens.

That’s great to hear. I really wanted to go, but couldn’t — I settled for watching it live on FaceBook — yet even on that small computer screen it was easy to see that the numbers were beyond reckoning. It was also easy to see, as you mentioned, that the crowd was respectful and polite. I’m so jealous of anyone who got to go to the rally :-) Congrats on being a part of history!
