About 140 Inmates Escape Mexican Border Prison

MEXICO CITY (AP) — About 140 inmates escaped Friday from a state prison in the northern Mexico border city of Nuevo Laredo, across the border from Laredo, Texas.
The federal Interior Department blamed the breakout on local authorities, saying they did not properly guard the facility.
“The absence of effective methods of guarding and control by local authorities is deplorable, and it has caused frequent escapes from prisons that put the public at risk,” the department said in a statement.
It called on state authorities to clean up their prison and judicial systems by increased screening and vetting of corrections officers. In past cases, prison guards — often underpaid or under threat from gangs — have been implicated in prison escapes.
Federal police were dispatched to patrol the area, and roadblocks were set up to search for escaped prisoners.
The department did not mention the number of inmates involved, saying only that it was “a significant number.” The federal Attorney General’s Office said initial reports indicated 148 escaped, but local media quoted the Tamaulipas state public safety department as putting the number at 141, equivalent to about 10 percent of the prison’s population.
The jail break apparently occurred in the pre-dawn hours Friday.
Some of the inmates were being held on drug and weapons charges. Tamaulipas has been plagued by a steady wave of violence tied to turf battles between the Gulf and Zetas drug gangs, but it was unclear whether members of those groups were among the escaped inmates.
The jail break came on the same day that federal Public Safety Secretary Genaro Garcia Luna addressed a graduating class of new prison guards, underlining the urgent need to professionalize correctional forces.
“We are making a historic effort to build a new prisons model, that will treat prison staff as efficient public servants,” Garcia Luna said.
The new guard recruitment programs, supported in part by the U.S. government, include increased training, screening and vetting of guards.

Are you people insane. We don’t need a fence.
Congress needs to declare war on Mexico, and the US Military needs to invade and annex the rest of the damn country.
Declare war on Mexico. Invade. Take their territory. Declare victory. That would be in America’s best interest. Land not fences.

Report Post »Nope. I don’t think America needs “absorb” Mexico. Mexico needs to grow up, and take care of it’s own people and internal problems. And the only thing our troops need to be doing is keeping Mexico‘s problems on Mexico’s side of the line!
But, not to worry, Mike – your idea is already in the works – we just sent the funding first, and will send the troops later. NORTHCOM, the Canadians and Mexico have it all worked out – and they’ve even settled on a name: North American Union ((NAU).

Posted on December 18, 2010 at 1:34amI just watched Greta Van Whatever on Fox News .. she did a story talking about how The Washington Post did an investigation on the firearms used by Mexican drug cartels. I heard the MOST RIDICULOUS thing on there! The lady from the WP said that the guns are coming from American dealers in TX, AZ and CA. Then she said that the Mexican Army is OUT GUNNED!? Well my journalist friend .. the Mexican Army has access to the world’s best firearms which are off-limits to anyone in the US except folks who hold highly restricted federal permits. How can you be out’-gunned by a semi-auto AK-47 when the MexCo Army has full-autos?
She went on to takl about how they are using AK-47′s, AR-15′s and .50 cal sniper rifles against the Mexican Army. If I’m not mistaken .. the Mexican Army employs both Full Auto AK’s AND M-16′s. They beat anything you can get over the counter at a two-bit Texas gun store. Then again she called a semi-auto AK-47 an “assault rifle” so it’s not like I can take her for an EXPERT or anything ..

Posted on December 18, 2010 at 1:45amI did agree with one thing she said though. Apparently, if you buy two pistols at the same time .. or two in five days .. you get reported to the ATF. However if you buy seven AR-15′s, you don’t get reported. Then again .. I would imagine any respectable gun store owner would do it him/herself however the system does need to start regulating mass sales. Anyone buying that much hardware needs to be looked at. Especially on a border state.
Still .. this has an obvious anti-gun slant to it. I mean .. to say the Mexican Army does not have access to the kind of weapons that you can buy over the counter at Academy Sports is pretty effing ridiculous. I hope nobody actually buys into that bologna. Then again the Brady’s will eat it up.

Posted on December 18, 2010 at 2:41amThey claim every single weapon found comes from the US. Actually less than 20% do. There is a bounty for every full auto AR that is turned over to the cartels. These are Us Gov’t provided weapons. Any full auto or burst fire weapon requires a special license and few have them so how are gun stores selling them to straw buyers? Many of the weapons are stolen by illegals in this country for sale in Mexico. Most of the AK’s come in from the South and are Chinese made. This is nothing more than the anti gun idiots trying to find an excuse to disarm us all so it is easier to take over the country. No armed resistance. Watch out for the Start Treaty to contain language to bring our gun ownership under control of the UN. Hillery wants this so they can confiscate and outlaw under UN auspices. If this happens the US soverignty is gone.

Maybe time to totally swamp congress with calls and E-mails to close the border. Tell them DHS and Napolitano can not be trusted to do their duty. Call every day, and then every day again. Continuously throughout the 24 hour period, then start again. If we don’t, then it will be our fault when USA becomes a part of Mexico.

Posted on December 19, 2010 at 8:06amGun sales have always been a big business in the U.S. The military type weapons are being sold to the enemy so they have them and we do not. Then when people start complaining about the GUNS the government can step in and try to TAKE THEM ALL TO PROTECT YOU

I also have an idea: If you’re going to “Professionalize” the prison system, include a policy where the guards MUST use free housing at the prison for their families. The inner ring of the prison sequesters the filth. The middle ring holds the guards and families. The outer ring, more guards to keep the cartels and any break-out attempts at bay.
If you want this job, you’d damn well better do it right cause… if the filth gets in or out, you’re all going to be screwed, and not just the guard who took a bribe…. but EVERYONE……
