Accused Fort Hood Gunman’s Beard Postpones Court Hearing

Nidal Hasan hearing postponed beard

AP

A pre-trial hearing for accused Fort Hood shooter Maj. Nidal Hasan was postponed Friday after the judge ruled the defendant‘s beard was in violation of the Army’s grooming standards.

It was the first time Hasan, accused of the 2009 mass shooting rampage that left 13 dead, had appeared in court with a beard, MSNBC reported. Because Hasan is still considered an active-duty soldier who has retained his military rank, he is required to remain clean-shaven when in uniform or civilian clothes.

“It is a disruption. The judge felt it was,” Fort Hood media officer Chris Haug told MSNBC. ”He‘s in violation of the Army’s dress and grooming standards,”

According to CNN, Hasan‘s defense attorneys have indicated they will request an exception to the policy to their client’s religious beliefs. Hasan is an American-born Muslim.

The hearing had been to determine whether the U.S. government should pay for an expert neurologist for Hasan, whose mental health has been much at the center of the case, CNN reported.

Hasan is set to go on trial August 20. The military has charged him with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder. He faces a possible death sentence if convicted.

who cares what he looks like. in the military do they hang or shoot for capital crimes? while trials are necessary in the civilian realm i think this guy really should have a summary execution as there is no need to trot out the proof that he killed the people.

So, will his attorneys claim that he was driven to his rampage because the Army wouldn’t let his grow a beard or did Mr. Hasan just decide that he needed to grow one now. The other ugly little factoid that isn’t reported is that since Mr. Hasan is still considered an active member of the military he still garners his paycheck.

Honestly, your comments resemble the type of rhetoric I’d expect form an extremist third world country; not the proud citizens of the morally right, westernized, and civilized USA.

Hasan should be allowed to wear a beard.

If he says he was a Muslim terrorist, he should be allowed a beard.

If he snapped & this is work place violence like Obama’s Attorney General says, then Hasan should be clean shaven or suffer the consequences like any other military member.

There is much sturm & drang over civil trial versus military trials for terrorists wearing U.S. uniform, wearing no uniform & serially violating many other Geneva conventions.

The left tried to get what it wanted. Civilian trial for anyone & everyone ever captured on a battle field. Our judiciary is not large enough and they know it Nor is our country rich enough to afford it. They also know that. So the point was to bankrupt our nation or to force us to cease the war against Al Qaeda and their Taliban allies. What does that strategy make the left? Patriots?

WWII lasted 6 years. If it had lasted 9 years prisoners would have been kept 9 years or longer if the war had lasted longer. Meanwhile the left wants civilian trials, Miranda rights & speedy trails for Guantanamo detainees or they are to be let free.

Not only do they want the trials but the want us to present our informants as witnesses & give away the what information we collected via electronic intercepts. If we were to do so, wee would have few to no informants going forward & the NSA would become useless. But again that is one of the left’s aims.

Such aims of the left lead to a coarsening of debate. It couldn’t be otherwise. We are not all in this together. The left is not with us. I don;t know where they will go when the U.S. is unable to defend itself & falls. Maybe they think they can in some rump state carved out of a partitioned U.S. where everything is fair & just.

I mean really how do you win a war with the national Rules of Engagement that the left wants to impose?
People who are not leftists have been put through this for 11 years. They are frustrated. While the left did not get everything they wanted what it wanted, it received quite a bit.

It didn’t get Guantanamo shut down, but they got combatants freed. Many of who went back to the battle field. They also bolstered America haters on the left elsewhere in the world & America’s enemies by saying that Guantanamo was bad.
They said the Afghan War was the good war & the Iraq war was the bad war until Iraq ended. Then they said Iraq was bad too. If we would have pushed the Taliban out of power & left they would have excoriate us. If we stay to rebuild it per the Powell Doctrine, they excoriate us.
The left comes up with R2P but does not say when to use it & when not too. That was part of the reason to go into Iraq. But much to Bush’s woe he did not have the nifty acronym, a sycophant press nor a nifty European maven, Samantha Powers to push it. What is the left’s criteria for R2P? I guess R2P is to knock over dictators when it is easy (Libya), but not when it is hard (Syria). Because Syria has backers (Iran, Russia & Hezbollah). Well Libya/Gadaffi had backers but he was a bit further away. Too far away for him.

The list goes on. People are just tired of all the monkey **** that the left throws at us day in & day out.

As you said there where many who witnessed this man’s demonic deeds. This should then make it easier for the prosecution to get a conviction. And I mean the word tool in its most apt descriptive sense: you’re an idiot being useful to those who want Americans not to react. If killing innocents for a political message isn‘t terrorism then you’ve conveniently evacuated the core meaning of the word. Attacking military personnel doesn’t automatically make it an act of war.

@ Joey, maybe the Dept of Defense wants to call this workplace violence. Yep, that is what they called it. What concerns me is that this trial has been delayed and delayed. When questioned of the delay, the shooter, Major Hasan’s (aka Soldier of Allah) lawyer, John Galligan, wrote in an email, “Delays are due to prosecution/White House refusal to disclose evidence. Blame them for the delays.”

This is a double tragedy. Justice delayed is justice denied. As for proper punishment, I would cover him in chocolate and tie his sorry butt to his wheel chair and leave him over a mound of fire ants until he was devoured by them. Never said the two were equal, but if you think the forces stationed at Fort Hood were somehow at the front line and should have been standing ready with M-16s in hand, then by all means, make your argument. I’ll bow to superior JAG jurisprudence expertise, but by the general rules of moral fairness this guy was picking off innocent, harmless targets, NOT trying to inflict damage in a war scenario. He picked the area of Fort Hood where no weapons were allowed for exactly that reason.
      @chips
I realize you’re a little tongue in cheek, but since words mean things, let’s not get the concept of a war theater where active fighting is expected and security procedures to guard against armed invasion are routinely taken mixed up with the fact that some radical Muslims (and some radical liberals) think of the US as a place they’d like to conquer. We need to stay vigilant to defend our ideas, but we don’t yet all need to form armed battalions and go marching against the foe…

      —-
You’re making the mistake of thinking like a Westerner. First, to jihadists there is no such thing as a “war scenario.” It all falls under the rubric of “Holy War,” i.e., “kill them wherever you find them.”

Second, Hasan WAS purposefully targeting our military. By infiltrating our military bases, jihadists accomplish the following goals, among others:
      - To increase our WAR casualties the only place they can, which is outside a theater of war.
-To brag about their “victory” and thus promote jihad.
      - To undermine military base cohesion, safety and effectiveness. You never know when a fellow soldier will turn into a big bad “lone” wolf (I love the oxymoron).
-To give Joe & Jane O’Zombies a false sense of security. Public concern over jihadist attacks is mitigated among lefties when the target is our military. They kind of feel our guys had it coming.

Ft Hood has or at used to have a detention facility run by Military Police Charlies or Confinement personnel. Used to be 95C but I believe they are 31C now. I can’t see how he was even allowed to grow a beard in pretrial confinement. Even if he was transferred to a local civilian pre trial confinement he would have had numerous visits by the MPs to check on his treatment. If in a medical facility all of this time, he still would have had confinement MPs along with officers of differing MOSs visiting to check on him at various times. As for the beard and any outward appearances, somebody has either dropped the ball, or refused to even accept it. I’m surprised the judge did not send he and his lawyer to the nearest latrine with some clippers, razor, and shaving cream. And, with a strict time limit.

There is no doubt that Eric holder is the most bigoted, corrupt, and just plain evil AG we have ever had. They will play this out and in the end this guy will most likely get a life sentence with the possibility for parole due to his paralysis. This is the Obama way. He controls the military and his aim will be to show the Muslim world that we are a kinder gentler country that accepts all religions, criminals, perverts and sexually confused into our armed forces. His plan is to fill the ranks with people that subscribe to his agenda.

Here is my 3 part solution for this guy. Step 1 roll his butt up the ramp . Step2 place rope around his neck step 3 pull the lever. Pretty simple.

The military usually did this inside a second floor open elevator shaft with a removable platform complete with the trap door. No need to roll him up a ramp.

This mass murderer is going to do everything within his power to disrupt the court proceedings. Why didn’t the judge just bring someone in with a razor to fix this beard problem, then continue the hearing?

It’s been three years since he committed those murders. He should have already been tried and executed. Even our military court system is corrupt.

I would like to provide him with a razor. Wasn’t it his job in the military to figure out who was crazy?

In my opinion, if this Muslim terrorist murderer ever is convicted, Obama will just pardon him.

God Above, let the court case get going already. Make it as fair and impartial as it needs to be, but stop any of the nonsense delays from any side.

No trial would mean we’re no better than those filthy Muslims. I’d like to be the one to impose the death sentence too but, if you start to execute people with no trail it could start to be used as precedence to not give someone a trial who might be innocent. Be patient he will die.

Trial by fire. They should have killed him on the spot. The trial should have been had already, there is no defense for his actions as it is treason during time of war. Benedict Arnold was given a tribunal and hung, it doesn’t take 3 years to take care of this business.
