Actor Chris Rock: ‘I’ll Pay Higher Taxes’

Actor and comedian Chris Rock is the latest celebrity to come forward and say he wouldn’t mind paying higher taxes, sharing his thoughts on the economic crisis with the Associated Press Wednesday.
“I’ll pay higher taxes. I look at it this way I can pay higher taxes and people can have jobs or I can pay lower taxes and I have my kid‘s teacher asking me for a loan because she’s going to lose her house, which is true,” Rock said. “So I’m going to lose the money no matter what.”
In 2009, Forbes estimated Rock’s yearly earnings at $42 million. President Barack Obama has said individuals making more than $1 million a year should not pay a lower tax rate than middle class families, a position that has earned him charges of “class warfare” by Republicans.
In December, rapper Jay-Z declared “most people with a conscience” shouldn’t have a problem paying higher taxes.
Promoting his film “2 Days in New York” at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, Rock also said Obama is like “the parent of the country” whose role is to reassure everyone.
“That’s your job when you run anything is to — reassure, so that’s all I hope for, some reassurance,” he said. “The president of the United States is more or less the parent of the country.”
Speaking with co-star and director Julie Delpy, the two took the “parent” analogy further, turning it into an opportunity to essentially bash former President George W. Bush.
“When Bush was in power, what kind of parenting was that?” Delpy asked, laughing. “Dysfunctional parents.”
“You know, some parents do wacky things,” Rock said. “‘Let’s go to war.‘ People that didn’t do anything. Let‘s bomb a country that didn’t bomb us. I never understood that one.”

Most folks who make that kind of money have already committed it to non-government applications. And governments in general have a pitiful delivery record coupled with a genuine immoral tendency to destroy people’s lives. Just sayin’.

Posted on February 1, 2012 at 7:36pmThe job of the president is NOT to be a parent. It is to be the CEO of an entity that is owned and operated by the people of the United States of America. He is voted in, like a CEO, to manage the day to day operations of the country. It is NOT to reassure people, it is NOT to create jobs. It is impossible for him to create jobs, that can only be done by the American People. Giving the government money does NOT keep teachers in jobs, or keep them from losing their homes. It is better to stay quiet and be thought an idiot than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt!!! Chris Rock has removed all doubt.. He can consider Obama his parent, but I consider him a hindrance to the normal operation of of our country.

Posted on February 1, 2012 at 7:56pmThis is called moral bankruptcy. The dude thinks if he pays higher taxes people will have jobs. Take that to its logical extension and you realize that taking productive money out of the economy and turning it into something less productive or completely unproductive (i.e., Solyndra) does not create wealth but rather detroys wealth, even if it is at a slow but steady destruction. You’re throwing good money after bad, that is a fact. “But it isn’t fair to let these, the out-of-a-jobbers, people fail.” No, what’s not fair is having your “productive” wealth confiscated only to be used by much “smarter” in a centralized collective institution, the fedroll gubmint, to do things for me that are “good for me” that I could never do for myself or with others voluntarily. If I was there talking with Chris “box of rocks” Rock, I would have asked him why the $787,000,000,000.00 stimulus failed to “create jobs.” Heck, by his reasoning we should have made it bigger, much bigger. I mean, why not just make it more like $300,000,000,000,000.00, that way they could just give everyone in the country a million dollars. Just think of all the jobs we would create with that. Everybody would have plenty of money to buy whatever they want, right? Yeah, that is a sure-fire way to destroy the country OVERNIGHT. As I said, he may be a great actor, but when it comes to economics he is morally bankrupt. Another fine example of the indoctrination that has been going on for years to our youth

But seriously I don’t see why anyone here has a gripe with that. All the Republican candidates, Romney, Cain and Gingrich at least have proposed tax systems that raise your taxes and lower the taxes of millionairs. If you don’t object to your taxes being raised, and in fact cheer on those candidates who propose that, why would you worry about a rich guy saying he doesn’t mind if his taxes are raised?

It’s YOUR money, right? You are free to give it to whatever charitable cause you’d like. Make a loan to a school teacher, or give it to medical reserach, or to orphanages, or feed the hungry etc etc etc.
BUT IF YOU ALLOW THE GOVERNMENT to tell you it’s NOT YOUR MONEY, it’s THEIR money – then you have abdicated all power over how that money will be used.
So let me ask you: who do you trust more with your money – yourself? Or the government? If you’re confused, please take time to examine the track record of the Federal Government and spending and waste, fraud, etc.

Posted on February 1, 2012 at 6:37pmI love when people talk and use the word “fair.”
Fair is such a subjective term and what may be fair to one person may not be fair to another.
It’s why in key arguments like this, instead of giving a certain percentage, they argue for “fair” because who really isn’t for some kind of “fairness” in life? And if someone actually comes out against “fairness” they are immediately thrown onto the losing side of a debate.

Posted on February 2, 2012 at 5:05amIn socialist Sweden, the fair share was reflected in progressive taxation concept. For instance, the film maker Ingmar Bergman became a criminal and had to leave the country, because his fair share shot up to 107% of his income and he did not have means to pay it. If he made more money so he could pay it off, he would be taxed even more progressively.
A friend of mine was just diagnosed with a progressive cancer. That’s good, no?

Posted on February 1, 2012 at 6:21pmChris Rock needs some calibration with his logic. Paying higher taxes DOES NOT equal more jobs. It’s amazing that someone that successful can be that stupid. Also, teacher’s salaries are out of control. If his kids’ teacher is in danger of losing her house, she must have a very luxurious house. The average California teacher can easily afford a $400,000 house and will make $3-$4 million in their life.
This explains how 42% of people still support Obama. They’re completely clueless as to how the economy and government works.

All taxation is usable by the government for nefarious purposes even though “some” good and proper things are done by “government” at various levels (Federal. State and Local). It is our job to resist the natural tendencies of “Government” to exercise more authority and tax the people more to do more to/for the people than the Constitution allows. Likely Mr Rock..your teacher friend is in dire economic straits because she bought a home she realistically couldn’t afford and being a state worker, her state is broke and cannot afford her more- than- generous benefits. Mismanaged state funds may be something you’d like to look into before you choose to pay more money into them Mr Rock. Throwing more money into a fiscally dysfunctional state‘s coffers isn’t going to get anyone a “job” Mr Rock, it will be misspent on unaffordable and unsustainable programmes as were the previous taxes they collected and your friend will still be in trouble. Posted on February 1, 2012 at 6:15pmState or Federal Mr Rock? You‘ll need to cut a lot of those checks if you’re talking about California…they’re about to go broke in March with a $3billion shortfall. I guess all those teachers need those really cushy retirement packages right?

Posted on February 1, 2012 at 6:09pmThis is a Democrat pandering to other Democrats who happen to be his target audience. Without their support, he’d not have his $42M per year income, so he’ll say whatever they want to hear. And yet, I bet he’d bash a politician for doing the same thing.

Yeah you’re 100% right about this idiot. Rock‘s target audience is to brain dead to realize that the job creators in this country aren’t the bad guys. Despite what our dopey president says. It also amazes me too why people listen to the political ramblings of entertainers, athletes and people like kim kartrashian.
