Actor Gene Hackman is reportedly “fine” after being hit by a car while riding his bike in Key West, Florida Friday afternoon.
The 81-year-old, who reports claim was not wearing a helmet, was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami with “serious” injuries, according to the highway patrol.
Highway patrol reports that the veteran actor was thrown from his bike when a Toyota Tundra pickup struck his bicycle’s rear tire. Alcohol reportedly did not play a factor in the crash.
Susan Madore, Hackman’s publicist, downplayed the incident, saying, “Gene’s fine. … Just a few bumps and bruises. He is already on his way home.”
Hackman won an Academy Award for best supporting actor for 1992′s “Unforgiven” and prior won best actor for his role in “The French Connection” in 1972.
Information about the person driving the car, or whether charges have been filed in the incident, has yet to be released.

Posted on January 14, 2012 at 9:02amScary I was thinking about the movie he was in The poseidon Adventure with the ship the cruise ship that gets turned over. Because I saw the post above of that other cruise ship, and I was thinking what was the name of the main actor again. Then I go down and see this, talk about weird.

Posted on January 13, 2012 at 11:14pmGet well Mr.Hackman. A good actor, and solid man. I can forgive his left leanings, which is more than Hollywood does toward right-leaning fly-over country and that is where their money comes from. (sigh) God bless you, brother.

Posted on January 14, 2012 at 10:31amTo me, good acting is good acting whether left or right thinking. Hackman is such a “natural actor”…can’t believe he is 81 and Eastwood 80…alot of the upcoming actors cannot hold a candle to the older actors. Speedy recovery to Mr. Hackman. Don’t mean to be mean but after being hit by the car, Hackman could have said to the driver of the car, “I was building a house” (Unforgiven).

Posted on January 14, 2012 at 3:36pmBodybag got it right. It was the driver that hit our friend, not the damn Toyota. I hope that this was an AP or some other reporter, not a BLAZE reporter that wrote this article up. As Rush L. put it several years ago, it’s not the SUV that caused the accident or went chasing after the and ran over the college students, it was the driver. Lets help them with this sentence: …thrown from his bike when “THE DRIVER OF a Toyota Tundra pickup struck his bicycle’s rear tire.

Posted on January 14, 2012 at 6:08pmRon, that is not right either – Lets help them with this sentence: …thrown from his bike when “THE DRIVER OF a Toyota Tundra pickup struck his bicycle’s rear tire. – Your sentence suggests that the driver of a Toyota Tundra pickup in a bizarre act, got out of his vehicle and struck (presumably with his fist or a kick) the rear tire of the bike ridden by Mr. Hackman. The correct wording would be something that accounted for the driver as being the driver of the truck that struck the tire.

Of course alcohol was involved. If it weren’t for alcohol (and Jimmy Buffett), Key West would sink into the Gulf. In a gay way, of course.

Barber: Oh I wouldn’t point no pistol at nobody sir.
English Bob: Well that’s a wise policy, as wise policy. But if you did. I can assure you, if you did, that the sight of royalty would cause you to dismiss all thoughts of bloodshed and you would stand… how shall I put it? In awe. Now, a president… well I mean…
