Actor Kirk Cameron‘s ’Monumental‘ Film Looks to Rediscover America’s ‘National Treasure’

Kirk Cameron sees that something isn’t quite right here in America. The “Growing Pains” actor, who is now a well-known Evangelical speaker and leader, has set out to tackle some tough issues in his new documentary, “Monumental.” In the film, Cameron explores the problems that exist in American society, while delving into ways in which we can recapture the country’s “national treasure” and return to our roots.
“There is something seriously sick in the soul of our country,” Cameron proclaims in the film.

Here’s a synopsis:
What’s wrong with America, and how can we make it right? This is the question Kirk Cameron asks as he retraces the footsteps of our forefathers in the hope of rediscovering America’s true “national treasure.” What made us one of the most exceptional nations the world has ever seen? How did we stray from such a great beginning? Journey with Kirk throughout America and Europe as he explores the foundational doctrines and governing principles on which America was founded. In the end, he realizes that the key to restoring our country is it is not a grand, top-down program that begins in the Oval Office. It begins with our families, around our dinner tables as we seek to renew our nation from the bottom up.
“What I’ve discovered is that our history has not just been forgotten — it’s been re-written,” Cameron says in the film. “Time is flying by too quickly and our children‘s futures won’t wait. We’ve got to do something now.”
At CPAC this month, he addressed the audience and reiterated these same concerns.
“As I look around I get this sinking feeling that we’re off track, that there’s something sick in the soul of our country,” he said. “I examine the fruit that’s hanging on the tree of America and I can see that it’s rotting. And that concerns me deeply.”

Last week, Cameron appeared on GBTV, where he shared details about the film with Glenn Beck:

Posted on February 27, 2012 at 2:01pmKirk Cameron has always been impressive to me. When I was younger and watched Growing Pains, I read about him and his values and how he refused to do certain things. This is a man who knew who he was early on in life and instead of following his counterparts in Hollyweird or even following what normal young people do, experience life and learn—followed his faith from the start. I have nothing but respect for the man and I will go see this.

We can’t start a new country now, but we can fix our own. We have to stand up. We have to risk everything to do it. And most of all, don’t let people stand alone. Don’t look to a charismatic leader. Look to families. Look to better elections.

It will come to that. This monster that has been slowly created in this country will soon fall and we will have to rebuild our nation based upon a restored Constitution the way the Founders wrote it. We will create a new nation. One that the world hasn’t seen in over 200 years.

“Theocracy”
In a recent letter, the writer took the same position as Americans United for Separation of Church and State (AU) and parroted AU’s offensive mantra, associating a theocracy or theocratic state with the “Religious Right.” Such claims are patently false.
First, to have a theocracy in America, the Constitution must be replaced with a totalitarian dictator who speaks on God’s behalf (i.e., a revival of “the Divine Right of Kings” doctrine). I challenge AU, or anyone else to identify which part of the “Religious Right” is calling for such a government.
Second, the “Religious Right” leaders (Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Jim Dobson, et. al) are calling for an increased respect for the Constitution and its actual wording, urging citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote. The real “crime” of these leaders is not that they want a theocracy (which they don’t) but that they rightfully want legislators to make national policy instead of judges. Should that occur, AU or groups like them could not win another battle, for Americans overwhelmingly reject their policies (e.g., “under God” in the Pledge – a phrase opposed by AU but supported by 87% of Americans).

Report Post »UBETHECHANGE
Posted on February 27, 2012 at 11:37amThe rabid opposition to public religious expressions is often irrational, In fact, a New Jersey bill proposing that students begin each day by reciting the first 56 words from the Declaration of Independence was loudly denounced as “a thinly-veiled attempt to put prayer in schools” – the first step on the road to a – you guessed it – “theocracy!” Reading the actual wording of the Declaration of Independence leads to a theocracy??? It is time for that term to become anathema in public discourse.
During the Civil Rights Era, we gradually learned that if certain pejoratives were invoked, the individual doing so was a racist. Similarly, today we need to learn that when the emotive and pejorative term “theocracy!” is invoked, it is usually by an intolerant secularist who wants all public religious expressions expunged from society.

Posted on February 27, 2012 at 12:09pmIf we are really heading towards the eleventh hour of the “end of times”, I could imagine Santorum getting in. People often speculate why the US isn’t mentioned in the bible and there are various explanations for this, but some have suggested that the US completely collapses and is no longer a world power in the global game. If the rapture* happened while there was a Christian believer in the the White House and large numbers of believers were taken from our nation at once, what do you have remaining after the salt and light are removed? Only darkness.
Get on the ark. John 3:16
*The word rapture is not used in the bible–that is the word people have used to identify the event that takes place as described in Matthew 24:36-44, but it’s really worthwhile to read the entire chapter of Matthew 24.

When government is referred to in scripture it is a completely different form of government – usually a military occupation of a monarchy, not a representative republic such as ours. When Christian leaders preach that we should submit ourselves to “Caesar” they are making a fundamental error because WE are our government, not some military leader or monarch. WE the PEOPLE govern ourselves. So, we MUST hold our representatives accountable, remind them who they work for, and fire them promptly when they show the first signs of corruption.

GWB, Dick Cheney and the other ecil doers in our society. Using God for their own gain will be punished. I am hoping that God spares those of you that are supporting these criminals because you do not realized that you are being used as tools. Read that Bible and see what Jesus said about the poor as opposed to what he said about the rich who became GREEDY. Then look at who you are supporting and what they actually stand for. Please dont be fooled because they use your religion to confuse you. You must go by the word of Jesus, not the world of any Politician. Obama is not using your religion against you. The Republicans will use you and then turn their backs on you. Do you ever hear them sticking up for you? Be honest. You are only supported during election years. Jesus Rules, not Republicans

@ ENCINOM
Poor me (ENCINOM), who feels overlooked for not fitting the original character of America.
I’ll just help pervert it to fulfill my desires, but ever so gradually that successive generations will pass without noticing the radical drift.
In the end, I’ll get what I want, never mind what is good for others.
I’ll just disguise my desires as being in the interest of others. Noone will ever notice . . .
The word of Lucifer.
