Actress Ashley Judd Defends Planned Parenthood & Says GOP Doing ‘Really Dumb Things’

Actress Ashley Judd came out against Republicans with fists flying this week. In addition to defending Planned Parenthood against recent attacks, Judd told “Meet the Press” anchor David Gregory that Republicans are “doing really dumb things about women’s reproductive health.” Additionally, she reiterated her support for President Barack Obama and pledged to assist his re-election campaign in whatever way possible.
“As long as the Republicans keep doing really dumb things about women’s reproductive health, that should help energize girls and women in this country,” she said. “It’s remarkable to me that I would be having conversations with my peers and the younger cohort about access to reproductive health. That’s the same conversation I have with girls and women in Bangladesh. It’s the same conversation I have in Cambodia and Madagascar. And here we are in America in 2010, talking about whether or not modern family planning is useful. I mean I find that extraordinary.”
Judd is in Washington, D.C., for the International Center for Research on Women’s Champions for Change gala, where she will be speaking. During her discussion with Gregory, she highlighted the global women‘s rights issues she’s a part of and was sure to also discuss the needs that women here in America have — particularly when it comes to Planned Parenthood and the services the group offers.
“When you try to close down Planned Parenthood, it’s an access issue. And it’s particularly an access issue for poor women,” Judd said. “And poor women who need flexible times during which they can go to the clinic, because they already have small children, because they have difficulty getting time off of work, or they’re trying to improve their education by going to a technical or vocational school.”
These are the women, the actress claims, that Planned Parenthood serves. Judd went on to lament the “crazily exaggerated and amplified conversation” that Republicans lead surrounding the controversial organization.

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 3:38pmI think this would be more accurate:
Progressives are “doing really dumb things about women’s reproductive health.” Their programs have nothing to do with reproducing.
It should be called “reproductive” health when you are trying to have a baby.
To prevent a baby from being born should be called “un-productive” health.

If we let the enemy (and I use that title advisedly) define the argument, we lose from the gitgo. Thomas Szasz said it best: “In the animal kingdom, it’s kill or be killed. In the human kingdom, it’s define or be defined.”

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 6:41pmIf I’m not mistaken, didn’t Naomi Judd admit that her daughters had different fathers? And didn’t Ashley Judd not just release a tell-all autobiography in which she detailed drug use, multiple boyfriends and even sexual abuse in the many homes her mother moved her into? Does she not realize how much she has in common with the 40 million children who have been murdered in abortion clinics over the last 39 years? In fact, I’d say there is a very good chance that Ashley Judd is here to express this opinion because she was born 5 years before Roe v. Wade. Now, I’m not surprised to find that the Judd Bio is complete fiction. I’ve worked with child victims of sex abuse, parental drug use and violence and complete instability in the home. If you look at Ms. Judd’s body of work, she has expressed in her work the complete terror and insecurity and anger of a child of that home life. She needs to understand that while modern pyschotherapy might not have much to assuage her pain, Christ does. There is a way out of her suffering, and that is through faith in Christ. But she will never find any hope through advocating that children in homes like hers be put out of their misery before they are born. The issue in her life is not that she should have been killed before she saw the light of day, but that if her parents had followed Christ, her life would have been like the “good old days” that “grandpa” told about.

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 11:11pmYou guys are against abortion. You admit that it‘s legal in the country but you don’t like it. Okay I get that.
But what I don’t get is the hatred of Planned Parenthood. Only 3% of Planned Parenthood activities are abortion related, all of which is publically funded, not funded by tax dollars. So this 3% Planned Parenthood is legal and privately funded. Okay, you don‘t like abortion even if it’s legal and payed for by other Americans, not you.
Okay, I get that. You don’t like that 3%. But you want to get rid of the other 97% too. What is that the other 97% of Planned Parenthood does? That other 97% goes to providing low cost health care to the poor. Mammograms, pap smears, flu vaccines, cancer screenings, vaccinations, screening for high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems etc. Physicals for low income students who want to enter a sports program. And so on. General medical help for the poor, the kind you get when you go to your GP.
The real issue isn’t the 3% that goes to abortions is it? Taxpayer money doesn’t go to that by law. The problem you have is your tax dollars going to provide low cost help care to the poor, that’s the real problem you have. If people want to be screened for cancer, you say, their church will provide that. Sure they will. I’d like to think our country takes care of the poorest among us. Sad to see so many people who would kick the poor it the ditch with a boot to their head.

You are a moron, I get that.
How many times are you going to post the same media matters talking points, then get the same answers, and yet come right back with the same liberal crap time after time?
JZS, we want no taxpayer money going to any organization that performs abortions. We are not trying to shut them down, we just don’t want to fund abortions.
You want to fund them, go ahead JZS, donate. If that abortion mill that you call a worthy organization is really worthwhile, then good liberal baby murder supporters like you will raise the needed blood money and keep them afloat.
If it’s not important enough for you freaks to pony up for them to continue, then they need to fade away.
Now, one more time for the common sense impaired. If even one single dollar of my tax money goes to PP,…….even if you claim that my specific dollar is put aside for something else other than abortion,…… that fees up a different dollar in their coffers to be used for abortion.
If my tax dollar is kept away from their blood stained hands, that is one less dollar they have for that purpose, thus I am not supporting it.
You want to help women kill their young?………cough up the cash……..but keep your grubby, stinkin, filthy marxist hands of my tax dollars if you are going to use them for that.

Posted on May 25, 2012 at 11:59pmAshley, be aware of what you’ve told the world, you sickening tramp. Planned Parenthood was founded in 1916 by eugenics advocate Margaret Higgins Sanger. She saw birth control as the key to limiting the numbers of people she considered inferior. Sanger wanted to protect the rights and power of those she believed to be of an elite superior breed as they would be needed to rule over “the hordes of irresponsibility and imbecility.”
Report Post »Sanger favored “a stern and rigid policy of sterilization and segregation” against anyone “whose progeny is already tainted or whose inheritance is such that objectionable traits may be transmitted to offspring.” An editorial in Birth Control Review, a publication Sanger founded, summarized her goal: “More children from the fit, less from the unfit — that is the chief issue in Birth Control.”

You are clearly missing the point. Whether or not someone agrees with the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the Constitution does not change the fact that you have to follow it as it is now law.
You can disagree with the Supreme Court’s rulings on abortion, but it is still the law and states must so comply. The same goes for Citizens United.

Many conservative states, such as FL, are doing everything they can to prevent women from having abortions, so yes. This goes beyond just funding for Planned Parenthood and includes measures that make it extremely difficult for women to get the procedure. Some of the proposed laws include provisions that have the doctors flat out lie to the women as well. Remember the law that requires women to have a ******* ultrasound before having the procedure?
These states are doing everything they can to prevent women from exercising their Constitutionally protected right.

Here you go. Kansas wants to pass a law requiring doctors to tell women seeking an abortion that it can cause breast cancer.

Also, I see you didn’t attempt to refute the fact that some states are trying to require women to have an invasive procedure before they can have an abortion. Some call that a legalized form of rape.
And no, I am not making this stuff up.

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 3:13pmFor anyone who viewed the reality show that starred Ashley Judd’s mother and sister: if Ashley is half as insane as them, this explains a great deal about her inability to understand the difference between censorship AND state sponsorship. We won’t sponsor the slaughter of babies anymore……

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 3:13pmPlanned Parent Hood and reproductive health? How can anyone be considered “reproducing” when they are aborting? What is being reproduced? Nothing, so Planned Parent Hood and reproductive health is an oxymoron.

.it’s an access issue. And it’s particularly an access issue for poor women,” Judd said. “And poor women who need flexible times during which they can go to the clinic, because they already have small children, because they have difficulty getting time off of work, or they’re trying to improve their education by going to a technical or vocational school.”
