Adam Carolla Breaks Down Occupy Movement: ‘F**king Self-Entitled Monsters’

[Editor's note: you can hear an edited -- bleeped -- version of the rant here.]
Some people have a way of breaking down an issue, laying it out in its simplest, most rudimentary form. Comic and podcaster Adam Carolla did just that recently when he unleashed what many conservatives will hail an acerbic yet painfully accurate debunking of the Occupy movement and its self-ascribed motivations. The nearly ten minute long lampooning of America’s new “f–king self-entitled monsters“ who ”think the world owes them a living” is peppered with very strong language, still, Carolla’s observations are worth listening through to the end.
Among the many highlights in Carolla’s rant, he asks why the top “1 percent” of America paying 50 percent of all income tax in the country is not good enough for the Occupiers. He also observes how “envy” never before existed among Americans the way it does now, and that it, along with “shame” plays a crucial role in the Occupiers’ motivation and self-justification.
Reflecting on how things used to be “back in the day,” Carolla states:
“You took guys who built something, and you said ‘there’s a guy who accomplished something.‘ You didn’t say, ‘that guy didn’t pay his fair share.’ That guy paid millions of dollars last year, and you paid shi*t and you’re pissed at him?”
You can listen to Carolla’s podcast below. We caution again, he uses very strong language:
Regarding the “envy” of Occupiers, the media personality notes that people used to look up to those who “accomplished” something and built businesses.
“It’s this envy and shame, and there’s gonna be a lot more of it,” he warns. “It used to be back in the day, a father was walking his son and they’d see a guy go by in his Rolls Royce. There goes Mr. Jenkins. Look up to him,’ he built a business…What do we do now? Oooh, look at him. Does he need that car? Why does he need to drive that car? Let’s throw a rock at it.”
“That’s not gonna help you get out of your Chevette,” Carolla adds sarcastically.
Reflecting on a time when people were rewarded for their actual accomplishments rather than for nothing at all, Carolla laments, “We’re dealing with the first wave of participation trophies…everybody’s a winner, there are no losers.”
He rhetorically asks why the “slowest, fattest guy on the team” would deserve an MVP award. In the process of rewarding those undeserving, Carolla says that “we created a bunch of f**king self-entitled monsters.”
“We’re dealing with the first wave of those f**cking a**holes now,” he blasts in reference to the Occupy protesters. The kind who believe “my own fecal matter doesn’t stink.”
Carolla also strongly suggests that the Occupiers need to “find a mirror” and figure out why they are not “doing better” in life rather than look at others.
For the most part, Carolla maintains that while Capitalism does veer off course at times, it is the “best system.”
Update: This isn’t the first time Carolla has spoken out against the Occupy Movement. Below, listen to another clip during which the comedian lambastes the protesters:

Posted on December 1, 2011 at 9:14pmWell, I’m not so sure. I don‘t buy a lot of un necessary foul language from any one who ’claims’ to be some one of my particular philosophy. The english language is sufficiently replete with verbs, adjectives, nouns and associated conjunctions, pro-nouns, adverbs to comedicly describe (is that a word?) any moronic politician, socialist, communist or associated sympathizer.
Not that I don’t use foul language. I have. And I predict I will again. But not on a stump. If he wants to be one more foul mouthed comedian, fine with me. But the funniest comedians I have ever heard used no bad language at all. And I do have a fairly good sense of humor. Or so I hear.

Posted on December 1, 2011 at 9:59pmOh, my God, oh my God, oh my God! It just hit me. I’ve been pulling my hair out (what little I have left :) trying to figure out WHY we are committing social and economic suicide??? It’s pretty obvious that that’s what we’re doing. I mean, you know, I’ve been following Glenn for about three years now and doing my own research and all of that… :) But I’ve been agonizing over why would we (I mean all of us- Liberals, Conservatives, Rhodes scholars and morons) are destroying everything we have built? Why would we ALL be that stupid??? I know for a fact that we are ALL not that STUPID! That’s what we are doing- you know. Even a Moron can see it… Why would we do that? Because it’s almost conscious and intentional. Some of it is unconscious but the most perplexing thing is that most of this suicide is conscious and fricking deliberate. Why would we all ALLOW George Soros to do this to ourselves?

Posted on December 1, 2011 at 10:01pmI’m listening to Adam Corolla rant about this pathetic new generation- feeling vaguely depressed, disgusted and helpless. Then I asked myself what created the Greatest Generation? And like a bell ringing, the answer of fricking course was- the Greatest Depression…! HARDSHIP!!! Hardship is what creates character and greatness in human beings!!! All of this prosperity and stuff (God I’m sick of STUFF!- aren’t you?) destroys human character. We’re a strange creature. But it’s so true. You may think I’m a little dense and slow on the uptake and it’s probably true but this just went off like a fricking bell in my head. WE ARE DOING IT TO US! ALL OF US!
I have my year and a half of food. I’m ready. I listened. I heard Glenn. I saw the truth and I believed. It troubled me greatly! But I don’t think I’m so depressed about it anymore. Clear the fricking board. Let’s go! Let’s start over!!! We who survive will shape the new country. Ok, I’m fricking ready now!!!

Posted on December 2, 2011 at 5:35amMy discontent with the “1%” doesn’t arise from any false sense of entitlement, I personally have issues with centralized banking systems creating a system of perpetual debt and large multinational corporations working alongside globalization groups like the world bank and the IMF. I believe that the degradation of the environment to benefit ourselves while harming another is not an ethical practice and to survive as a race we need to alter our industrial and consumer based systems. People shouldn’t have to pay to support the laziness of others, but a system that places others at a disadvantage that cannot be overcame is wrong and will not last for an extended period of time. I’m sure if Adam was still a construction worker and was laid of due to this economy he would be filing for unemployment just like many others.

Posted on December 2, 2011 at 8:41pmCarolla was born in Los Angeles, California[4][5][6][7] to an Italian-American father, Jim Carolla, a psychologist; and his mother, Kris (née Novello), a perpetually out-of-work welfare recipient with a degree in Chicano studies.[8] Adam’s parents did not give him a middle name.[9] As a joke, he wrote “Adam Lakers Carolla” on his driver’s license application.[10] His driver’s license still gives his full name as “Adam Lakers Carolla. He began living on his own at the age of 18. He briefly attended Los Angeles Valley College, a community college, where he was placed on academic probation before dropping out to work in a series of jobs, including carpet cleaner,[15] carpenter, boxing instructor,[16] and traffic school instructor.[17] Although broke, Carolla and his friends and roommates owned a 1963 Cadillac limousine…. Sensibleness and wisdom may be ultimately satisfying. It may be healthy. It may be smart and it is definitely sustainable (unlike stupid). But it ain’t really all that funny. And that is the way things should be.
There are plenty of conservative comedians as many people on this thread point out. One of the biggest ones they are forgetting is the man himself; Glenn Beck! The problem isn’t “corrupting the youth”, “the youth” have never been morally pure, read Twain on kids in the 1800′s, read Chaucer, the human condition has always been off the beaten path as far as “purity”.
I can guarantee you Carolla didn’t urge kids to ask for things for free. His entire history that I know of has been one of “take care of yourself and don’t rely on others” in an economic sense.

Envy? Pretty simple – you have more stuff than me and I want what you have.
I’d always figured we were going down the path of no shame at all (I’ve heard that Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian have some videos that can be found on line with a simple google search).
How he’s defining shame here (or, as I understand him) is something I’d never considered.
“I‘m an Occupier and I’m ashamed I wracked up $50,000 in debt to get a masters degree in Urban Anthropology and don’t get a trophy for just showing up at a $150,000 job – when I want to. Why can’t I get work anywhere other than Burger King? If that?”
And the envy side?
“Hell, if I can’t have the job (and trophy) I deserve, I’ll just take or destroy what you have succeeded at getting.”

YOU, sir, or madam, are a pompous A$$.
It is clearly obvious that you have absolutely NO IDEA what is truly going on in this country, and the world at large, if you truly believe the drivel you have spouted here.
Time to wake up, sir/madam… there is NO room for phony civility when the political apparatus, along with their masters, are destroying our very way of life. And as for healing? THAT, sir/madam, can ONLY take place when they and their ilk are totally gone from the face of the earth.

Posted on December 1, 2011 at 7:29pm@ Down, I see why you feel that way but I have to disagree with you. When it comes to Glenn, you have to retract your statement about saying that he does it for ratings and money. Just look at what he has done in the last year. Quit Fox. Put on Restoring Courage (without the fund raising he did for Restoring Honor), started his own internet network (which is top of the line and very expensive) without knowing if anyone would watch, started and expanded the Blaze. All of this MIGHT make him a richer man than he would of been if he had just stayed at FOX, but it is a heck of a gamble that could ruin him.
Report Post »Now, if money is not his goal, then he must believe it. You say he is tearing this country apart with his “evil” talk, and if he is doing it for money then I agree, but what if he is right? Some, including myself, believe that he is. Would it not be a greater sin to not say what you believe regardless of how it sounds if your saying it could institute real change or should he just lie to us? I ask, if he does believe what he says and decided to take the safe road for money instead of doing what he is doing now, would that not be evil?

YOU, sir/madam, are mistaken… if anything, Glenn Beck is far TOO tame in what he is advocating… for what he is advocating is very similar to what YOU, yourself, seem to be saying.
It IS, sir/madam, more highly intelligent to recognize the truth of things. It is NOT acrimonious, hateful or angry to recognize that there ARE forces at work in this world that you, sir/madam, apparently know NOTHING about.
When the political apparatus regards the common, decent, every day American citizenry as the enemy… when the political apparatus supports all manner of trouble making communists, leftists, Islamists, OWSers AND many others who would tear down our western way of life, however temporary their alliance may be… when THAT side has given the ultimatum… it IS, US or THEM. Period.
Just how intelligent can it be to carry on in the same old standard way that got us INTO this state of affairs in the first place? The other side simply does NOT play by the same rules that you, as well as most of us who wish to preserve our Constitution and way of life, would prefer.
Freedom loving Constitutionalists vs. the new world order “global machine”… there is just NO nice way to resolve this… as you WILL find out one day… maybe sooner rather than later.

Posted on December 2, 2011 at 8:06amTalkingmonkey, you deserve credit at least for stating your position clearly and it’s obvious that you believe the threats that Beck exaggerates are imminent and real. The problem is, experts in the field of geopolitics and pundits like George Will, (and even Rush Limbaugh) don‘t agree with Beck’s apocalyptic outlook. In fact, Beck is rightfully viewed as an unsophisticated, under educated alarmist who lacks the ability to draw rational, intelligent conclusions about where we are now and where we’re going in the future. At any rate, no matter what one’s world views are, discussing our varying perspectives without demonizing our fellow Americans is a more productive way to move ahead and unite our nation. Don’t you get it? These show biz blowhards like Sharpton, Beck, Coulter etc. are playing a game with the public to enrich themselves. They make extreme and inflammatory statements to whip up the emotions of the public in hopes of getting ratings and media attention. It’s what they do to make big money. Don’t fall for their nonsense. It’s just like getting angry when your favorite pro wrestler gets beat up by his opponent. It’s all for show. It’s high time for we the people to take a deep breath and step away from their silly circus.

Posted on December 2, 2011 at 8:35amKomponist, one definition of evil is “Characterized by anger or spite; malicious: an evil temper.” By that definition, Glenn Beck himself is guilty of being evil every day on the national airwaves. Even when he’s not fear mongering, he can’t control his mean nature. Last summer for example, he devoted a lengthy segment of his radio show to mocking and deriding an unfortunate woman who he never met for her mere appearance. Beck did this to shore up his “us against them” narrative. Anyone who doesn‘t look like a Mormon missionary is suspect and fair game for public ridicule and mockery in Glenn Beck’s book. He still owes her an apology too and judging by the comments and views of this image I created, nearly 4000 people agree.

Posted on December 2, 2011 at 1:43pmDOWNTHEWELL: All of this lovely erudition and enlightened discourse belies two simple facts: One is that you merely use a lot of unnecessary flourish to say simply that you dislike Beck, his message, the fact that he is successful, (never mind the tremendous risks he takes financially and in opposing the powers that be like George Soros and the American Left) and that he has a large, growing and fiercely loyal following. Yeah, we get it.
The other is that you have a pry bar in your hand called “don’t fall for their nonsense, let’s be all productive, together and non-demonizing” with which you desire to pry as many people as possible away from these beloved populist prophets whom you detest because they’re just so pedestrian and it offends your haughty perspective. The problem is that you misrepresent yourself. You are not trying to have an enlightened discourse benefiting all. You have an ax to grind and everyone knows it and can see it. So, your efforts are really very futile and pathetic- objectively speaking of course… :)

Rationalization, though popular with progressives, should be balanced against the harsh glare of reality.

Posted on December 1, 2011 at 10:25amBack in 2005 I decided I wanted to open a bar/nightclub. I went through 3 years of rejections, dead ends, and massive frustrations, yet, in March of 2008 I opened my bar/nightclub. However between a few mistakes made by myself and the falling economy I was forced to close the place in March of 2009. I was also over $100,000 in debt. I lost my house, my car, and am still paying off stuff today. You would most likely say I am a “failed loser”. You have the right to “label” me whatever you wish. I on the other hand would not change it even if I could. The 3 years I struggled to get the place opened made me a better person, the year we were open was an amazing learning period in my life, I made friends I never would have, and I feel this “set back” has just prepared me for the next adventure. These OWS crybabies would never be able to do what I did because after all the banks told them no (as they did with me) they would have given up and blamed the banks for not giving them what they deserved. I funded my bar through a 2nd mortgaged, maxing out 5 credit cards, money from my 401k, and a loan from family. I simply found a way to get it done by doing whatever I had to in order to get what I wanted. No one made it easy for me, and for that I am thankful. But you wouldn’t understand that type of mindset would you?

Posted on December 2, 2011 at 10:27am@GhostofJefferson,
The truth of the matter is we don‘t know with any certainty the origin of the word because it’s one that was not used in academic circles or considered socially polite but rather was used as common slang by the unwashed masses.
Most English words have a Germanic root. Why? Because English is a Germanic language which arose in the Anglo-Saac-Son kingdoms of England. English originated from the fusion of languages and dialects, now collectively termed Old English, which were brought to the eastern coast of Great Britain by Germanic (Anglo-Saac-Son) settlers by the 5th century and further influenced by the Gaelic languages of the Vikings and their descendants.
In any event, we are all I-Saac-Sons so naturally all of our words, vulgar and otherwise, can be found to have a common root.
I AM a social Conservative, yet I too have less problem with Adam Carolla’s use of the vulgarity than the fact that we are in a position in which it is completely appropriate.

“Our experience is that ENVY, rather than GREED, is the key driver. If you give someone a $2 million bonus but their co-worker got $2.1 million, they’re miserable. Of the seven deadly sins, ENVY is the most useless – it makes you miserable and you lose a lot of sleep. At least with GLUTTONY there is some upside for the sinner (I’ve had some good times with gluttony) and I won’t get into LUST.”

And btw @Ed Zavada, there is plenty of envy among the OWSers. And to say they are sacrificing their time – let’s be honest – most of them have nothing better to do. If they really wanted to make a difference, why not all find a neighborhood in need and go clean it up. Or volunteer at a shelter.
