Adam Carolla Talks Glenn Beck in Rant Against Bias Media: It Slants ‘Toward the Left’

Adam Carolla’s recent rant about Occupy Wall Street — and how the protesters are “fu**ing self-entitled monsters” — grabbed national headlines earlier this month. We featured it on The Blaze, and it quickly became one of our most popular stories ever. Well now he’s back with another rant, this one against the left-leaning media. And it includes plenty of references to Glenn Beck.

(Related: Listen to the original rant)

See, after we posted the story on The Blaze, Beck featured it on his radio show, calling it one of the best (albeit vulgar) diatribes he’s ever heard. He even confessed his new-found admiration for Carolla and wrote about it on the chalkboard that sits behind his radio seat. That grabbed the attention of the media, who apparently started asking Carolla if he sees Beck’s support as a liability.

The short answer, which was delivered on his podcast on Dec. 6: no. That in turn led to him turning the tables: “No media member’s ever asked me about being too left wing when I talk about pot, abortion and gay marriage, or something like that.”

And instead of summing up what he said, we’ll just let Carolla tell you (we’ve changed the transcript slightly for accuracy):

I was doing an interview today with this chick from like Sacramento, and she was like, “aren’t you worried about the stigma of Glenn Beck?” And get this a lot, “aren’t you worried about being associated with the right?”

And I said, “how come when Alec Baldwin announces we’re good buddies, and he comes on the show, nobody interviews me and goes, ‘aren’t you worried about being connected to the left?’ That doesn’t exist. And she’s like, “ahhh, well.”

And I said, “The reason you’re asking that is because the media is slanted toward the left, and all of you think that way, you can’t help but the way you think.”

See, if I go, “Hey me and Alec Baldwin are good buddies, and he calls in and we hang out,” you thick, “cool.” And if somebody says, “Hey Glenn Beck was calling you a genius the other day,” you go, “oooh, aren’t you worried?”

[...]

She had no answer to that.

It’s weird. It just kind of– I know we get in this argument, “which way is the media slanted?” I’ll tell this: I don’t know which way the media is slanted. But I will tell you, I’ve been asked, am I worried about being connected with right wing whoever or being too right wing a thousand times. No media member’s ever asked me about being too left wing when I talk about pot, abortion and gay marriage, or something like that.

That’s a little clue into the universe that they’re living in. While each year I pay the equivalent to 48 school teachers in taxes. Like what 48 individually school teachers, individually, would pay, I pay as one person. We get the exact same benefits. And you’re saying to me you want me to pay the equivalent of 51 school teachers. I think I can make a pretty good argument as to why I should pay for only 45 worth of school teachers in taxes in one tax year.

Listen for yourself (content warning for language):

Carolla used to be a tradesman before he became an entertainer. He’s got a grounding. He understands hard work and working hard to earn the fruits of your labour. He‘s got social liberal views and that’s his prerogative…but he understands how destructive, dysfunctional and deluded the left is.

But at the same time, Corolla gives the argument against his case.
Could we not say the, in general, more paved roads/better maintained roads is a net benefit to an individual? So, as he’s trying to show he gets no new benefits, he shows how he does get benefits in the particular example of this metaphorical road.

In addition, he seems to say that he doesn’t actually have a problem getting taxed more – just that he has a problem with the efficiency of the government. He says he’d give “all that [he] has” if he thought it was going somewhere useful. Unless you are trying to make the argument that any form of government is inherently inefficient – which does not sound like what is being said.

“The media is slanted to the left?” Think about that for a second. There is a continuum from the far left to the far right. If you are on the far right, of course all the media seem slanted to the left. To people on the far left, the media seems slanted to the right.

The idea that the “media is slanted” says more about a given individual than the media. And if you think FOX is “fair and balanced” and unbiased, brother are you are the far right.

They THINK that way because the media has programmed them to be automatically biased towards anything on the right….the RIGHT is evil, homophobic, zenophobic, sexist, racist, rednecked, unintelligent, and want kids to go to bed hungry according to them. This would leave the left being completely good and wholesome but they are anything but. How do the masses even reconcile these two huge gaps in reality…? They don’t because there is never anyone on the right to explain logic, reason, common sense to these people. Those within the Left are too timid to speak up against irrational people within their own political platform.

Only an eggplant like yourself wouldn‘t understand the context of Corolla’s assertion (more accurately..refuse to acknowledge the context). Corolla is an entertainer. I disagree, he’s on the right track though. Everyone should pay exactly the same dollar amount to live in this country, as we all reap the same benefits. Now give me that old argument, that we don’t all get the same opportunities. It’s not the governments duty to supply opportunities. When you go to a carnival, everyone pays the same price. It’s not the carnivals fault if one person has fun, and another sits on his butt, and has none.

That about sums it up. Even though I probably disagree with most of Carolla’s views, at least he is exposing the mind numbed vacuousness of the left wing, OWS, socialist mind-think.

And he is dead on about taxes, DEAD on! Why should anyone have to pay the taxes of 48 school teachers just because they make more money? Why? They don’t use any more services, so why should the 1% pay 45% of the taxes, or whatever the heck it is.

The 1% would be occupying the White House, but they actually have to work for a living and build their businesses, and oh yea, pay taxes for city workers to clean up the mess you OWS slobs left in city parks around the country. Thanks, douche bags.

JZS, think about how things have slid to the left. I can’t talk on a cellphone while driving unless it is hands free operation. I can’t ride in the back of a pickup truck bed, I have to wear a helmet. A person sues McDonalds because she was so stupid as to put a hot cup of coffee between her legs and drives off and wins. Watch commercials and half are for drugs with made up symptoms, others are lawyers asking you to get ahold of them to do a group litigation on a company.

Why can’t we be responsible for our own actions and stupidity, survival of the fittest? Have to have a special bathroom fixtures and ramps installed instead of giving the handicapped person a hand to get into my store. When a guy has to have hazmat come into the place to inspect because you have a solvent tank to clean parts in a jewelery store, isn’t this going a little bit too far left? I could go on and on, but I sure hope you get the picture. This isn’t even getting into stupid signs or turtle tunnels under roads, little fish more important than 17 percent of the vegetables in the USA, or stopping all offshore drilling after the first spill in more than 30 years.

Looks like this is the number one story again.
Adam’s right. Hollywood is another problem area – hypocritical bigots. Remember the interviews with Hollywood bigwigs that exposed their intolerance? They hide the truth, but they made an assumption that their interviewer was a Liberal because he was Jewish and they told the truth – they exposed themselves as intolerant, bigoted hypocrites. Listen to the Liberal media and they’re OBVIOUSLY the same. They constantly spew hate towards the right – like JZS and the other trolls. They almost never have a true Conservative on their shows for honest debate. They usually have a Liberal Republicans and say they’re the Right wing. Fox News debates Left-wing loons on almost every show – usually more than one. I’m forever muting Alan Colmes, Lamont Hill, Bob Beckel and other Liberals that constantly rattle off their same talking points on Fox.
Global warming is a hoax. Obama is a liar. Raising taxes only increases spending because they have no respect for the money they’ve stolen through over-taxation. They want to take guns from honest citizens thereby leaving especially women helpless. They over-regulate so small businesses have no chance to succeed. Liberals do everything wrong.

Actually, this is were I say we just disagree. That would involve to much research for me to back up my opinion that the major news org went out of their way to paint GWB negatively for 8 years while they have gone out of their way to shield Obama from criticism. As it would take to much time and research for you to back up your opinion that for 8 years media orgs did everything in their power to report positively about GWB and shield him from critisism while they have gone out of their way to paint Mr. Obama in a negative light. Point taken…it would just end in “yes they did, no they didn’t”

Glad I could give you a laugh. I actually got to meet Beck last weekend at a book signing. I came up with the business idea standing in line. There were a few thousand people there to see him. The ones waiting next to me wouldn’t stop talking about how much they would love to have access to pushing the g-parents of the poor over a cliff, polluting their drinking water to cause life threatening illness, and making the air un-breathable. The idea was born. I hadn’t though about making autistic children and the sick poor fend for themselves until I talked to my neighbor, a lifelong democrat, who converted to conservatism that day. That‘s is when he told me all of a sudden he couldn’t stop thinking about doing harm to autistic kids and those in the poor class who were sick. Now I’m currently trying to squeeze that into my business plan. I think if it gets off the ground we would make a great business team, seeing that we both hate the poor so much.

I am a GBTV subscriber and I respect the man for shining the light of truth on many subjects but there is still significant bias on the right and yes even Mr. Glenn Beck has his flaws which he himself would admit. He went after Rep. Ron Paul for not wanting to send financial aid to Israel but on the other hand he wants to stop sending aid to other countries, why the inconsistency? Beck would be quick to point out that singling out Jewish people or Christians is a bad thing but I never hear him stick up for gay people or pot smokers that deal with a stigma every day. Equal treatment from justice should apply to everyone no matter their culture or belief system. You don’t have to be religious to be a good person and not all atheists are participating in a war on Christianity.
And to make a very important point not all conservatives are going to support doing away with entitlements, it is a very unpopular idea that conservatives aren’t even holding the line on. Talk about hypocrisy.

I agree whole heartedly…personally, I have always loved Carolla’s shows. He is a guys guy and sees the world thru clear glasses. He has money and success, but he does not allow that to define him. It is much like Glenn and what he has done. Making him a part of the GBTV family would not only make Glenn a truck load of money, but it would be great for the image of the network, “The Truth Lives Here”. I look at social issues as personal choices…right and wrong can be debated but in the end does not define you. Economic issues define everyone and thus need to be decided upon together. The best part about Economic decisions is that they are made using mathematics…..the one absolute truth of the universe. So when the left tries to tells us that we are wrong even though their formula of 2+2 adds up to 16, we can call BS knowing that 4 is the right answer. If truth is the answer, which I believe it is, let’s gather all those “truthers” together and put them on GBTV. Language is language….if it bothers you don’t listen. Don’t act like liberals and try to make that decision for everyone….you don’t have that right. Glenn…get Adam Carolla on your network.

Logank, yeah I get that Adam Carolla is a smorgasbord of socially liberal/ fiscally conservative ideas (AKA Libertarianism). So why not just call yourself a Libertarian? Is he afraid of the word or does he not know there is such a group? To be completely honest, I really don’t care. I agree with a lot of the Libertarian ideas on the fed and out of control, bloated government, although I wouldn’t call myself a Libertarian; I just mostly wanted to have some fun with the GhostofJefferson. I just happened to see his comment and thought I’d make a point that Libertarianism is sadly far from mainstream; check back in a bit and see his reply. GhostofJefferson’s comment made it sound like Libertarians could put liberals in their place through superior argument (which is possibly true); the problem is that Libertarians don‘t seem to win votes and therefore are not represented except through Ron Paul and a few others that tout libertarian ideas but won’t call themselves Libertarians. To put it another way: If a Libertarian argues in the forest and there is no one there to hear him, does he make a sound? I guess it‘s Friday and I’m in an argumentative mood.

Wow. All the labels. Please tell me when we all unite under the banner of freedom. We’re not so different, we just want to live our lives and be left the hell alone, yes? Are libertarians pissed that Ron Paul can’t get everyones support? Why all the faith in man? Man has and will let us down in our quest to remain free. In this thread I just believe we are happy to see someone tell the truth as it is. If joy behar said the same thing I would be equally delighted. Of course carollas rants don’t surprise me.
