Advocate Claims East Coast Earthquake a ‘Warning From God’ to Pass Jobs Bill

Was yesterday’s northeastern earthquake a “warning from God?”
That’s what Rocky Twyman, a community organizer, public relations consultant, and “prayer warrior” believes. Specifically, Twyman claims that God unleashed the historic earth-shaking in an effort to urge lawmakers to focus upon job creation and those affected by the lagging economy.
Responding to the quake, which was one of the most intense in Virginia history – a 5.8 on the Richter scale — he‘s offering up a warning to America’s political elite. His message? It’s time for Obama to work with Congress to push through a jobs bill. But, before I continue, let‘s take a brief look at Twyman’s history in political and social advocacy.
He founded the “Pray at the Pump” movement a few years back (an effort to pray down gas prices). He’s also the man behind the “Pray Without Ceasing Political Party.” In early August, the political group marched around the U.S. Capitol building seven times in an effort to shed light on the need for bipartisan agreement in raising the debt ceiling. Below, watch him discuss the U.S. deficit:
On Wednesday, Twyman is planning an “emergency vigil of hope” in response to the quake. Via a press release, he explains the purpose behind his planned response:
“Because we are not in an earthquake zone, it was quite unusual for a quake of this magnitude that was felt all the way in Canada to occur. We will proudly carry signs saying CONGRESS AND OBAMA, HEED THE EARTHQUAKE WARNING, COME BACK FROM YOUR PLUSH VACATIONS NOW AND PASS A JOBS BILLS OR WE NEED ANOTHER EARTHQUAKE IN CONGRESS AND THE WHITE HOUSE, AMERICA HELPED LIBYA, NOW LET’S HELP UNEMPLOYED AMERICANS WHO CANNOT AFFORD VACATIONS.”
The Baltimore Sun further explains the group’s plans to address use the vigil to urge politicians to take action:
The members of the Pray Without Ceasing Political Party (PWCPP) believe that this earthquake represents a wake-up call from God to Obama and Congress to stop fighting and get a job bills passed to help Americans who are struggling during this horrific recession. They believe that God is a loving God and is not pleased that so many of His children are enduring so much pain while Congress and President Obama enjoy plush vacations. In order to dramatize this belief, concerned citizens and PWCPP will hold an emergency vigil of hope in front of The White House…
Clearly, Twyman cares deeply for the people who find themselves suffering and in need during the nation’s post-recession economic battles. But, some will likely find distate in the advocate’s insinuation that God caused this natural disaster in order to specifically call Congress to draft and pass a jobs bill.
Considering Twyman’s past and present appeals, it will be interesting to see what he comes up with next.

Posted on August 25, 2011 at 12:30amIf God is using earthquakes to display his displeasure towards man, he must really be torqued! There are over 500,000 earthquakes per year on Earth. Are all (or any) of them judgements from God? I don’t know, since I don’t speak for God, and I don’t know many smart folks that do. Yeah, I know quite a few that seem to think God’s favorite form of “hissy fit” is a good old earthquake. I don’t buy it though.
As I’m stated previously, sometimes an earthquake is just an earthquake. Does God ever use earthquakes as a form of displeasure anymore? I couldn’t tell you, and I‘d be a bit uneasy in taking any mortal’s word for whether individual quakes are or aren’t. Man’s judgement is, by nature, defective. Now if God wants to provide a direct revelation, I’m down with that. As it stands, there are too many intermediaries to give a lot of credence to any or everyone’s opinion on divine, versus run of the mill earthquakes.

Posted on August 25, 2011 at 2:15pmThe best “jobs bill” that could ever be produced is one that :
- Repeals ObamaCare and bans any future attempt of such a thing.
- Creates a business friendly atmosphere by decreasing red-tape regulations.
- Encourages positive reinforcement for people and existing business to take risk.
- Promotes self-motivation and rewards personal responsibility.
- Decreases governmental dependency.
- Encourages a “get off your azz” mentality.
Of course, Obama is doing exactly the antithesis of this.
Remember this: You can’t “create” jobs based on desire or governmental manipulation, you can only create an atmosphere that allows and promotes job creation. The Obama administration kills the proper job creating atmosphere and the proof is in the resulting unemployment rate…..and trust me, it’s higher than the reported 9.2 %. It’s closer to 22% – 25%.

Posted on August 27, 2011 at 2:06pmsoooo there’s an earthquake, aaaand a stucture sustains some damage from that earthquake. THAT’S a supernatural “sign from God”? That’s like a rainstorm that soaks the ground is supernatural.
What WOULD be a supernatural sign from God would have been if the monument crumbled to rubble WITHOUT an earthquake or explosives, just up and crumbled for no reason at all. THEN I would be inclined to think it was a sign from God. But I would NOT think it was a sign from God to pass more legislation.

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 2:44pmThis earthquake was not a warning from God… God does not intervene. He stands by and watches the actions of his foolish children, and spares us judgment until we meet our end (for a great example of this, just look at all the evil that is committed by man, and NONE of it is resolved by God, but by MAN when they have had enough of the ridiculousness). Earthquakes are caused by shifting tectonic plates, NOT spiritual powers (whatever you call them) I wish people would stop blaming things on God and others, and take responsibility for their own actions, while acknowledging the things that are out of their control.
This is an act of Nature, nothing more… I love my religious brothers and sisters, however sometimes you need to stop thumping that bible, and divert your eyes from it long enough to see the REAL world around you…

i‘m not exactly a ’believer,’ but if the god of abraham and moses exists, he intervenes. jews were scattered throughout the diaspora after being expelled in 70 AD by the romans. antisemitism across europe from the mid-1800s helped created the zionist ideology and the desire to form a jewish state to protect the jewish community. WWI and WWII helped re-carve the middle east map into Western-style nation states. Palestine at that point was considered ungoverned lawless territory. without WWI, Palestine would’ve been considered un-settleable. without WWII, Hitler, there would be no UN. Without the holocaust and the different pogroms, there would not have been a single legitimate reason for the UN to recognize a Jewish state in Palestine, and very few Jews, save for the ideologues, probably would’ve migrated to that state.
if the Jewish god exists, and we are in fact living in messianic times like so many right-wing religious fanatics believe, then god is directing everything- good and evil.

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 3:30pmDon‘t know exactly where you’re coming from “religion” wise — if it’s Christian – the Bible is full of scriptures saying God does indeed intervene in human events. He’s in control all of the time and everything is either allowed to happen or not, according to whatever His purposes/judgements are at the time and with whom. The Bible is full of His judgements re the weather, “natural disasters” which He uses as He pleases. There are “judgements” here on earth for the living as well as for the final White Throne judgement for eternity. Usually the ones here are for just “punishments”/spiritual wake up calls in hopes to bring some back to Him and therefore not lose their soul and/or country, etc., etc. The ultimate ones are at the end before Jesus comes back (Revelation). Indeed, I worry about those who say He never does these things – not biblical and with all due respect, naive, ignorant of the scriptures/unhealthy denial of who God is all about.

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 3:43pmI love this comment because it’s true, it‘s simple but most of all it’s to the point. God doesn‘t take sides because he love’s all his children. When you go to God he listens and guides you shows you the path to follow. Open your hearts and understand one thing God placed us here on and imperfect word to live a life of freedom and choice. It is up to us to choose the path in which we follow.
