AFL-CIO Looking to Launch Super PAC to Boost Influence

WASHINGTON (AP) — The AFL-CIO hopes to boost its clout by launching a new political action committee that could raise unlimited amounts of money.
The move to form a labor super PAC is part of the federation’s goal to build a year-round political organizing structure instead of ramping up and down based on election cycles.
It would also help steer more of labor’s money to state legislative battles, where unions have been battling efforts to curb union rights in states like Wisconsin and Ohio.
Labor leaders say the idea remains subject to final approval over the next few weeks.
More than 100 super PACs have sprouted since a landmark 2010 Supreme Court ruling that allows corporations and unions to spend unlimited cash in support of, or against, political candidates.

Posted on August 23, 2011 at 12:37amUnions stealing from their members to promote their own political agenda. This should be illegal. Unions are already the worst kind of punks and thugs, feeding off their members and their hard work while raking in millions in dues.

Posted on August 22, 2011 at 9:35pmI seem to remember reading that the pension funds of most unions are underfunded. Is this why? Why are union members not demanding that the union leadership quit playing politics and do the jobs they were elected to do! Oh, I forgot. There is no such thing as an honest election in the unions. You cannot vote to replace any sitting union official. Well, you can vote to but it won’t matter. As Stalin said, “It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything.”

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 5:16amUNIONS = EVIL. The union thugs have taken over too many areas of working places. The worst thing they do besides incite riots is to support political figures we’d never vote for on our own. Do you people really want your dues going to these people harming the United States?

Posted on August 22, 2011 at 5:32pmOne of the items the GOP should have fought for during the debt ceiling debate was an end to collective bargaining rights and prevailing wage laws. This action alone would have shutdown the far-left’s radical agenda within two years (my opinion, of course).

Posted on August 22, 2011 at 4:37pmUnions make up but a tiny fraction of the workforce in this country and they’ve been extorting money from their members and the public for far too long. Time to stop the tail from wagging the dog any longer. They make headway in negotiations because they scream louder than anyone else. Insert ear plugs and vote them out.

Let’s get back to a constitutional republic. Repeal the 16th and 17th Amendments.
