After Violent Arrests, Dem. Congresswoman Wants ‘Dance Day’ at National Mall

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) wants Americans to get their dance on.
Following Russia Today TV host Adam Kokesh’s bizarre dance party (and subsequent violent arrest) at the Jefferson Memorial and a follow-up flash mob this past weekend, Norton is looking to launch more “participatory activities and events on the Mall.” In fact, she’s even looking to change legislation to make that happen.
The Washington Post has more:
Norton plans to amend a Mall revitalization bill to declare July 30th “National Dance Day” on the Mall and around the country. She plans to get “So You Think You Can Dance” judge Nigel Lythgoe and others involved in the action, which will include a flash mob and troupes of local dancers.
“When people go as far as Flash Mob dancing without a permit on the Mall, we should see such a response from the public as a wake-up call to make the Mall more with it,” Norton said.
So, the congresswoman plans to make the Mall more hospitable to visitors. She wants to see tables, chairs and more outdoor activities. While a dancing mob of patriotic citizens strutting their stuff on the Mall certainly sounds fun, talk about unconventional. It’ll be interesting to see what July 30 holds.

As long a sI can view these sites without being disturbed and if this pops up they are asked to stop and leave where they obey ok. BUT I think some of these events are in fact deliberate to incite an event. The police are on a thin line, one I have questioned at times, and IMO they are being tested with these ppl getting their dance on. IMO someone wants to start something wants the police to react violently b/c extremists want a revolution in this country.
What better way than to have folks “dancing” in places they should engaging LEOs! They get clubbed in the head and next thing you know a few radicals within take it up a notch and next thing you know you have a full on riot. Dont dismiss this, anything is possible at this point.

Anybody remember a small group of students who paused on the steps of the Supreme Court last summer and quietly prayed — and were told to leave?

If I were visiting Washington and confronted a small group quietly praying by themselves on the steps of the Supreme Court, no, it wouldnl’t detract from my visit. However, were I stopping by the Jefferson Memorial and had to endure this assembly, then YES, it would detract from my visit.

Glad somebody is out there dancing for our rights, even if most of us think its kinda lame. The question is, “Should you be arrested for dancing anywhere near a national monument?” This is a big government solution, a solution to harass the people of this country with. Where does this end?
