Miraculous: three weeks after an earthquake and tsunami devastated Japan, a dog was found alive at sea by the Japanese Coast Guard. According to The Daily Mail, the dog survived by living in a partially submerged house that was swept to sea.
Rescuers had hoped to find more tsunami survivors living inside the house but after tearing the roof open, it was found to be empty apart from the dog.
Despite its three weeks at sea, the medium-sized brown dog seemed to be in reasonably good condition considering its ordeal.
The discovery of the dog is a rare glimmer of hope in Japan where thousands of people are believed to have perished in the disaster.
The nation is now gripped by the ongoing nuclear threat posed by the unstable Fukushima plant as workers continue to battle to restore vital cooling systems damaged by the quake.

Posted on April 1, 2011 at 7:20pmWhat the dog’s thinking right now. “Now, if you can just find me some un-radiated food and water, I’ll let you pet me for the next 6 months”. If the apartment complex I live in would allow dogs, I’d fly over there and get that dog.

Posted on April 2, 2011 at 8:28amRob, one thing you better learn, people love dogs more than people. After reading your response, I can see why. I had to put down my old lab last year. I’d rather spend the rest of my life alone with that wonderful mutt, than most people I know.

ELGIN, SC (WIS) – A missing 2-year-old boy in Elgin was found Saturday morning after Kershaw County deputies say the family dog kept him warm and safe all night.
Sheriff Jim Matthews said 22-month-old Tyler Jacobson was reunited with his family after he was found across the street behind a neighbor’s home when someone reported hearing crying in the area.
Tyler was reported missing around 8:00pm Friday from a residence on Ashley Creek Drive. Matthews said the boy’s mother, 25-year-old Jacklyn Marie Jacobson, and her boyfriend Jose Gloria told investigators Tyler went to get some juice and didn’t come back.
Kershaw County deputies used a bloodhound tracking team and a SLED helicopter with infrared capabilities, but called the search off around 12:30am Saturday. The search resumed around 7:45am, and the boy was found shortly thereafter. “Just thinking that a dog would watch a baby over the night, it’s kind of like a movie instead of real life,” said Emily DuBose, who lives in the house outside which the baby was found.
DuBose had no idea a story of devotion and survival was playing out right outside her door. “When we saw the choppers last night, we just assumed a criminal was loose, so I locked the door,” said Linda Harr, who also lives at the house. “The last thing I was gonna do is go outside.”
“I heard some barking early in the morning, but I didn’t really think about it, I just heard dogs barking,” said DuBose.
But during the night, Jacobson’s dog was keeping watch over his 22-month-old master in temperatures that got down to the 40s. “I just wish I’d have known, I could have warmed him up, called the cops,” said Harr.
Now, words of praise for the dog who likely helped save little Tyler’s life. “Since he belonged to them, he must have followed them the whole way, so that’s very special,” said Harr.
And so this story has a happy ending, thanks to the special bond of a child’s best friend.
Sheriff Matthews said the family was interviewed Friday night, and again on Saturday. He said the boy’s biological father is in the Army and stationed in Hawaii, and is currently on his way back to Kershaw County.

Dogs rule
————————————————-
Cheez, yes they do. I once had a Black Lab that literrally saved my sons life. We lived in SC for almost a decade out in the country. Waaayyyyy out in the country. We had a small 2 acre pond on the lower part of our property filled with Bass and Cats, assorted panfish. One Saturday afternoon my son grabbed his fishing pole and headed down the trail to the pond. The wife and I were busy outside doing yard work and told him that we come and check on him after we were done with our chores. My son was 8 at the time. Our big lovable Lab stayed at the house with us. We finished our chores and started down to the pond and of course with the Dog in tow. The trail we took winds through the woods until you come out just above the western side of the small dam. The total time to walk this is about 4 minutes.
Anyway, as we turned the corner into view of the dam our Dog suddenly took off running towards our son. My son was croutched down about half-way across the dam right at the waters edge, holding his fishing pole between his legs. We watched in horror as our Dog dove at our son at top speed and knocked him over. Our sons fishing pole, hat, and a small container of worms went flying when our Dog tackled him. At that I took off running. I suddenly saw the Dog standing in about 3 inches of water barking wildly at something in the water. As I got closer I saw a huge Water Moccasin swimming straight for the spot where my son had been kneeling. I quickly picked up a fallen tree branch and started beating on the snake as sson as I got to the spot. Meanwhile the Dog kept barking but he refused to move from between the snake and my son. I finally killed the snake and took it home so we could measure properly. Turned out to be a 6 foot 11 inch Water Moccasin, which is big for our area.
Although it was an 12 mile drive to the nearest grocery store, we drove into town that night and bought our Dog the largest steak we could find. You won’t find any Cat doing something like that! Dogs rule!
