TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran will soon unveil “big new” nuclear achievements, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Saturday while reiterating Tehran‘s readiness to revive talks with the West over the country’s controversial nuclear program.
Ahmadinejad spoke at a rally in Tehran as tens of thousands of Iranians marked the 33rd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution that toppled the pro-Western monarchy and brought Islamic clerics to power.
Ahmadinejad did not elaborate on the upcoming announcement but insisted Iran would never give up its uranium enrichment, a process that makes material for reactors as well as weapons.
The West suspects Iran’s nuclear program is aimed at producing atomic weapons, a charge Tehran denies, insisting it’s geared for peaceful purposes only, such as energy production.
Four rounds of U.N. sanctions and recent tough financial penalties by the U.S. and the European Union have failed to get Iran to halt aspects of its atomic work that could provide a possible pathway to weapons production.
“Within the next few days the world will witness the inauguration of several big new achievements in the nuclear field,” Ahmadinejad told the crowd in Tehran’s famous Azadi, or Freedom, square.
Iran has said it is forced to manufacture nuclear fuel rods, which provide fuel for reactors, on its own since international sanctions ban it from buying them on foreign markets. In January, Iran said it had produced its first such fuel rod.
Apart from progress on the rods, the upcoming announcement could pertain to Iran’s underground enrichment facility at Fordo or upgraded centrifuges, which are expected to be installed at the facility in the central town of Natanz. Iran has also said it would inaugurate the Russian-built nuclear power plant in the southern port of Bushehr in 2012.
Iran’s unchecked pursuit of the nuclear program scuttled negotiations a year ago but Iranian officials last month proposed a return to the talks with the five permanent U.N. Security Council members plus Germany.
“Iran is ready for talks within the framework of equality and justice,“ Ahmadinejad repeated on said Saturday but warned that Tehran ”will never enter talks if enemies behave arrogantly.”
In the past, Iran has angered Western officials by appearing to buy time through opening talks and weighing proposals even while pressing ahead with the nuclear program.
Washington recently levied new penalties aimed at limiting Iran’s ability to sell oil, which accounts for 80 percent of its foreign revenue, while the European Union adopted its own toughest measures yet on Iran, including an oil embargo and freeze of the country’s central bank assets.
Israel is worried Iran could be on the brink of an atomic bomb and many Israeli officials believe sanctions only give Tehran time to move its nuclear program underground, out of reach of Israeli military strikes. The U.S. and its allies argue that Israel should hold off on any military strike on Iranian nuclear facilities to allow more time for sanctions to work.
Before Ahmadinejad spoke Saturday, visiting Hamas prime minister from Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, also addressed the crowd, congratulating Iranians on the 1979 anniversary and vowing that his militant Palestinian group would never recognize Iran‘s and Hamas’ archenemy, Israel.
Also at the Tehran rally, Iran displayed a real-size model of the U.S. drone RQ-170 Sentinel, captured by Iran in December near the border with Afghanistan. Iran has touted the drone’s capture as one of its successes against the West.
The state TV called the drone is a “symbol of power” of the Iranian armed forces “against the global arrogance” of the U.S.
The report broadcast footage of other rallies around Iran, saying millions participated in the anniversary celebrations, many under heavy snowfall.

Posted on February 11, 2012 at 12:58pmThevoice, let’s take your logic and use it.
In 1953 America overthrew an elected government in Iran, an act of war by any definition. Who is the mad dog? Iran or America?
America placed its puppet dictator to rule over Iran, an oppressive and tyrannical dictator. Who is the mad dog? Iran or America?
America kept its Shah in power, with force, for 29 years… 29 years of brutal oppression for the Iranians. Who is the mad dog? Iran or America?
Using your very own logic, one must conclude that America should have been put down sooner rather than later… no?
Americans are going to be forced to waste more of its wealth, and risk more of its men and women, for a rogue nation that has brought us nothing but trouble since its founding and our unconditional support. Israel is the problem. The facts and the history bear this out. Only a radical, religious, fundamentalist could see otherwise.

Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be.
But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.
She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all.
She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.
She will commend the general cause by the countenance of her voice, and the benignant sympathy of her example.
She well knows that by once enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom.
The fundamental maxims of her policy would insensibly change from liberty to force….
She might become the dictatress of the world. She would be no longer the ruler of her own spirit….
[America's] glory is not dominion, but liberty. Her march is the march of the mind. She has a spear and a shield: but the motto upon her shield is, Freedom, Independence, Peace. This has been her Declaration: this has been, as far as her necessary intercourse with the rest of mankind would permit, her practice.

Logic would say they are willing to do whatever they need to do to win even if it means fighting to the last man. That nothing is off the table anything and everything you can imagine as a weapon or a way to attack the enemy is on the table. No target is off limits, the Geneva Convention, doesn’t exist to them. So how do you use logic on that type of an enemy? The last time this country faced an enemy like that they called their (Martyrs) Kamikaze. We ended that war with the first and only use of nuclear weapons.

Posted on February 11, 2012 at 11:42amObviously, you have no understanding of the situation at hand. Iran is situated between Iraq and Afghanistan. The US has occupied both of those nations for almost a decade. In both countries, violence and death are on the daily news. While I disagree with Iran’s views on alot of issues, they are a sovereign nation and they can do whatever they want to with their own nation inside of their defined borders. If they want to develop a nuclear weapon, so be it.
Also, while alot of money comes out of Iran to provide support for terrorist groups, I’d like to ask you if you know how much money the CIA spends on foreign operations. Watch “Charlie Wilson’s War” to gain a clue as to how much money the US spent supplying what would now be considered terrorist organizations in the 80′s. Until the Iranian gov’t and military launch an attack on the United States or our Allies, we should do nothing. If Iran ever launches a nuclear weapon at a nation in offense, then you can by all means count me in as a supporter of using nuclear weapons to turn their seat of gov’t and military to glass. However, if we start a war, then you can count me as one of the veterans who will refuse to return to military service and I will denounce the war openly in public.
War is hell on earth, not some tool for humanitarian aid or to be used to deter another nation from exercising their own sovereignty.

Arabs in this region are sunni while the Persians are shi’a. The only thing that unites them is an abiding hatred of Jews and Christians. When they run out of us, they turn on each other.
The Persians want to push for WW3 to bring abt their Mahdi’s return and approval. It‘s a core belief of the shi’a, just as Love of God and neighbor are at the core of Jewish and Christian theology.
Does every shi’a practice what is believed? No, not any better than all Jews and Christians practice theirs. Most of the populace in Iran just want to live free and at peace. It is most unfortunate for the whole world that the leaders are interested in bringing about the Mahdi’s return.

Most of what Iran knows about nukes is taken from someone else. They didn’t build those centrifuges; they didn’t figure out how to make fuel rods through research and experimentation. Why should I trust them with a technology that they couldn’t develop on their own? Iran lacks the means to build its own centrifuges and will likely use Russian designs for any bombs and reactors they build. Why else would the government be the one behind it and not private industry? Answer: They don’t have a private industry.

So Israel illegally seized the territories in 67? Here’s a few questions for you (and anyone else). Why was illegal for Israel but just fine for Jordan and Egypt? If Israel wants the land, why haven’t they annexed it? Jordan did. Why has Israel offered to hand over land when neither Jordan or Egypt did? If all the Palestinians want is land, why does Hamas continue to attack Israel AFTER they pulled out of Gaza? In my opinion, repaying a withdrawal with increased violence makes Israel LESS likely to negotiate.
Also, how is Hamas not a terrorist group? Does blowing up buses and restaurants not count as terrorism? Ambushing soldiers is one thing, but massacring civilians? Hamas to this day doesn‘t recognize Israel’s right to exist. Until that changes there’s nothing to discuss.

Posted on February 11, 2012 at 10:59amThe most aggressive? Again your history fails you. Israel throughout history has been attacked from all sides. It has only been a State since 1948 and since then has been attacked by numerous countries that surround it. You again should stay away from the liberal/progressive/anti-semantic sites and read read, true history.
You have a State that is the size of maybe Connecticut completely surrounded by people that hate them and want them destroyed and say as much. Doesn’t make much sense for them to be the aggressor does it.
This is the same crap that the Germans started feeding their people back in the 1920‘s and 1930’s even before there was a State of Israel.

Report Post »Israel was attacked in 1948. In 1967 Nasser had formed an alliance with the intention of attacking Israel AND had blockaded one of their ports. You really believe he wasn’t going to attack? In 1973, Israel was attacked ON THE HOLIEST DAY ON THE JEWISH CALENDAR. Israel did cooperate in the Suez War with Britain and France, but once again their main goal was to break the blockade around Eilat. So far I count 3 counts of aggression by Egypt and its allies and a fourth that could be argued either way. Both Lebanon conflicts were a response to rocket attacks. That covers all the major conflicts. So far, I think Japan and Nazi Germany still beat out Israel for most aggressive in the 20th century. Even America has been the assessor more often.

Posted on February 11, 2012 at 10:03amDo you know what the difference is between wise men and regular people?
It’s not age. It’s not experience. Heck it’s not even knowledge. The wise know that it is important to do one thing. Think with LOGIC. Not emotion.
Too many people here and across the nation are thinking through fear. Not logic. Then they wonder why the government and media do the things they do. They do it because they know how to work your emotions and get the response they want you to have. Not the logical one.
So why don’t you guys take a step back and think it though before you jump on the “OMG WE MUST WAR WITH IRAN RIGHT NOW!” bandwagon.

If you take a step back and look at everything the state of Iran has done over the last forty years you realize that they are just as cold and calculating as we are. They do everything within the guise of a plan too. So don’t try to play them off as just a bunch of crazies. That’s what Custer thought too about the Indians.

But what options are there at this late date?
It ends that we are actually fighting for our survival as a Country. If 10 years ago we had actively pursued developing our own internal energy sources, we would not be in this position.
Reality is, imagine our oil imports cut by over half or even more. How would we survive? We would not even have enough fuel to support any chance to regain control of the oil supplies.

Trust is EARNED. Do you trust your preschooler with knives? Or, do you progressively accept their further growth with their eventual, responsible use of knives, fire, and eventually guns?
I know what the wise man does!
Invoking “wise man” analogies does not make a position valid or true.
Facts and history and experience DO!
So before you go dismissing age and experience, claiming “wisdom” is nothing more than “logic”, perhaps you would do well to remember God’s commands to respect our elders, and to honor thy father and mother.
I believe education has led our children to believe they know more than their parents.
A young man finds his father sitting in the dark. Thinking himself “wise” the young man reaches for the light switch. Being wise the father did not. He had been shocked too often by that switch. So the son’s “wisdom” needed EXPERIENCE.

Posted on February 11, 2012 at 11:24amI didn’t realize so many people cared about my opinion but here it is I guess.
Iran getting a nuke is bad yes. I agree there. However as it stands we are in no position to do anything about it. We already have at least four land wars in Muslim countries and are over 100% debt to GDP. We don’t have the man power or the money to do anything about it.
That said. We also would be morally wrong if we attacked them first. Even if we try to use the excuse “WELL THEY WERE GOING TO NUKE ISRAEL”. The bible teaches us that the only righteous war is a defensive war. Where we only protect ourselves from a direct threat. Not from what we perceive MIGHT be a threat.
And I do agree with Ron Paul on the part that we keep inflaming an already volatile situation and making it much much worse for ourselves. I don’t believe that the only reason they hate us is that we went over there and started it. But that is the primary cause for the exponential escalation.
And I’m tired of the media and politicians fear mongering, lying, pandering, and misleading the people so that they can tighten their control on the people via a police state. They need there to always be a bad guy so we will be willing to sacrifice liberty for security. And I‘m even more tired of the people believing the hype because they react out of emotion and don’t think the issue through.
So there you go. Pick which ever of the four you like the best.

The problem with Iran is that they can be the hub that unites the rest of the middle east back into the islamic state that they all want. If that were to happen we then face a VERY strong opponent and they also control most if not all the oil in the region which then shuts down our economy.
If we had been developing our internal energy needs, instead of wasting time and money on stupid green crap, we would not have to worry about Iran or the middle east. Let them kill each other.
Israel has proven time and again that they are capable of defending themselves with minor help like supplies, etc. I think they are even more prepared now. Posted on February 11, 2012 at 9:46amI don’t think the West should underestimate Iran.
It has 70 million people and a terrain that is more rugged than Afghanistan, and they have numerous weapons trained on the Persian Gulf which could close the Strait of Hormuz, causing the global economy to tank when 40% of the world’s oil stops flowing from the region.
The US could vaporize Iran in a head to head match, but I think it’s a mistake if the politicians and Pentagon brass expect that it would ever be anything similar to the cakewalk like Iraq and Afghanistan.
Iran has several thousand Sunburn missiles they’ve been acquiring from Russia. They zip along just above the water at over 2 mach speed, and they’re undectible by radar. They also have the S-300 anti-aircraft/anti-missile system in place now according to Debka and Stratfor.
While having these weapons won’t mean defeat for the US, Iran will be able to cause much damage to any ships in the Persian Gulf and will be able to eliminate many planes in an aerial attack.
What I find curious is that politicians meekly backed down against North Korea after numerous threats to that country, and they’re actually shipping nuclear materiuals to other countries, something the politicians claim Iran would do if they got the bomb.
My question is, Why back off from North Korea, since it is a far greater threat to peace than Iran, yet scream hysterically over Iran, which isn’t militarily as strong as North Korea?

Then Ahmadinejad comes out and says he has big secrets to unveil and those same people go “OMG LISTEN we have to listen to what he’s saying we have to take him 100% seriously because he’s completely NOT trying to deceive or get attention or mask his intentions!”
Have your cake and eat it too?

Posted on February 11, 2012 at 10:43am@SYKCINLEGACY….Really? Ron Paul didn’t come up for the reason for 9/11 for no reason..that was the findings of the CIA…get it? It was a formal report of their investigations..Of course.. just because that was the findings of the CIA..it doesn’t necessarily make it true now does it..It could have been far more sinister than that..I am betting that the Muslim Brotherhood (whom the Us is partnered with) is the “high man” on the totem pole..since they were founded in the 1920′s and I would bet that Al Quaeda..Hamaas and Hezbollah receive their orders from them.. Interesting that Obama and Hilary just helped paid rebels in Islamic countries take down ours and Israel’s friends in the ME.. and replace them with Sharia Law ones..

I’m NOT a Ron Paul supporter, but I find it curious that you’re one of these trolls who come on here, pretending that you have a particular point of view, some of which is designed to placate the overall idelogy on this forum, because you think it gives you more validity when you denigrate Paul.
I think it’s just short of imbecilic to expect that you will have any influence here, but I don’t expect you to understand any of that.
The only reason someone would have such fanatical zeal as you do is because Paul believes in putting America first over Israel, and you think by denigrating him you will sway opinion against him and, therefore, help Israel in the process of it all.
Are you like Ben Stein who called Paul an Anti-semite because he criticized Israel over their policy, because it was detrimental to the United States?
If that’s the reason, why don’t you move to Israel where you can actually take up arms in its defense, because you obviously love it more than you do your own country.
You’re one of anti-American fools on here who needs a dose of deportation to set you straight, like Ben Stein who also prefers Israel over his own country.

Let me tell you something about what being anti-American is. If someone says “I want my candidate to win and if he doesn’t, I’ll just write him in and help 0bama finish destroying this country.”
That’s anti-American. Making people aware that such people actually live among us is very much pro-American.

For the Ron Paul groupie that is unimaginable. They would rather see someone like Obama remain (as punishment/conscience)… who thousands upon thousands of Paul supporters actually DID vote for in 2008, or endorse someone like Cynthia McKinney or Ralph Nader because their messiah said so. Ron Paul supporters are NOT team players, nor are they Republicans. They are left of Obama in most cases, just right of URANUS on most others except for some economic issues. Liberals and Libertines who like cash in their pockets to pursue their greatest loves… drugs, porn and chaotic self-serving BS.

They don’t..they have over 300 nukes.. and if Paul were President..he would help them but by Congressional decision..He has voted for their right to defend themselves..remember Bush wouldn’t let them when they wanted to bomb Iran..We have always given more than twice the amount of foreign aide to Israel’s enemies than to her..So in other words..we have kept her hands tied..Paul won’t do that. The Bible plainly states that God will gather the nations to go against her.. but Jesus himself steps in and all of Israel will be saved..but only one third will hold to her newly found faith in Jesus and the two thirds..God will allow to be destroyed..It’s all in ZECH 12..13…and 14… That’s the way prophesy reads TIME.. it’s not in your hands.

Your positions on foreign policy are FAR closer to Obama’s and the CFR than they are to Jefferson, Adams, and Washington.
And as for trying to place Paul supporters on this site in the Obama camp…well all one can say is you are a buffoon.
The NWO offers you a so called choice which is nothing but 2 sides of the same coin, and your ilk fall for it.
You are willing to destroy the Bill of Rights based on a Boggie Man, and willingly vote for an NDAA candidate who thinks giving Obama the right to have you arrested with no charges, trial, or release date is an acceptable idea.

Posted on February 11, 2012 at 9:18amThe largest donor to a SuperPAC supporting Ron Paul is Peter Thiel, the sort of ultra-wealthy, super-national figure Paul and his supporters love to hate.
Thiel — who gave $900,000 to the pro-Paul group Endorse Liberty — made his fortune as the co-founder of PayPal; he was also an early investor in Facebook, and is now a major player in the world of high-tech venture capital. He’s also a devoted libertarian and devoted Republican: He hosted a fundraiser for the confrontational gay conservative group GOProud at his grand apartment off Union Square in 2010.
Thiel is also a member of the steering committee of the Bilderberg Group, the elite, invitation-only conference that’s the frequent subject of conspiracy theories.
“They probably get together and talk about how they’re going to control the banking systems of the world and natural resources,” Ron Paul said in 2008.
Thiel shares, though, Paul’s anti-government, and anti-Establishment, impulses.

“Hospital Isotopes”, of course, being codewords for “nuclear weapon”… Everyone uses code words. Obama says he wants to help the “poor” when he really means “my rich black friends”.
The 500,000,000,000 dollar Solyndra-style loans lossed could have paid each of the 10,000,000 unemployed Americans 50,000 dollars each last year, and that is a teeny tiny drop in the bucket compared to government waste. You and Ron Paul … who said in his book btw,….“ our borders should open and blurred” can defend our “borfers” (is that code for welcoming illegals in the Paul mindset?). If the troops are going to help defend our “borders” we need to incorporate the war on drugs in that motivation. Using our troops as border guards in a non-combat zone is a slap in their face, unless they are able to use their skill and training to kill the enemy while “helping” control our borders… until we beef it up with trained border police/guards that is.
