Iran Claims it Downed U.S. Drone, Ahmadinejad Vows to Send U.S., Israel to ‘Morgue’

Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has threatened to send the United States and Israel “to the morgue” if the two nations try to meddle in Iran’s “peaceful” nuclear program. This latest threat seems to have been brought on over reports circling Iran’s state run media that claim a U.S. spy drone had been spotted conducting surveillance at an Iranian nuclear installation  before it was, allegedly “downed” by the regime.

According to AKI Ahmadinejad said:

“Resistance will continue until Iran sends its enemies to the morgue,” he said on his website, making a reference to the US and Israel who he said are “on the verge of collapse and gasping for their last breathes.”

Ahmadinejad may have been reacting to news from Iranian state media that Iran brought down a U.S. “spy drone” flying near its Fordo nuclear enrichment plant in Qom province.

State-run Press TV didn’t say when the incident happened. US officials said there were unaware that a US unmanned aircraft was downed, according to news reports.

Of course Ahmadinejad didn’t miss an opportunity to inflate the standing of his Islamic Republic, referring to it on his website as “the region’s greatest military power.”

If the U.S. did in fact deploy a drone to perform reconnaissance of an Iranian nuclear facility, it may bode well for future action against the regime’s nuclear ambitions, however, it is difficult to trust Iranian state run media’s account of a “downed” U.S. drone.
