Air Force Academy Backtracks on Christmas Toy Drive Because It’s Too Christian

Air Force Academy Backtracks on Christmas Toy Drive Because Its Too Christian

The United States Air Force Academy, located in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The U.S. Air Force Academy has pulled out of a Christian-sponsored children’s toy drive after commanders were accused of religious intolerance.

Mikey Weinstein, an academy graduate who runs the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, said the academy’s participation in Operation Christmas Child is inappropriate because of its evangelical Christian roots.

Operation Christmas Child is sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse, headed by Franklin Graham — the son of evangelist Billy Graham. It packs toys and other items into shoe boxes and sends them to needy children around the world, along with a Christian message in each gift.

“This is arrogance beyond measure,” Weinstein told the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Weinstein said he took issue with an announcement about the drive made to cadets in the dining hall, followed up with an email appealing for donations.

“PLEASE, PLEASE CONSIDER SPENDING SOME OF YOUR VALUABLE TIME AND MONEY TO LOVE ON A KID AROUND THE WORLD!!,” the email said. It was sent by a cadet after approval from a cadet leader, the newspaper reported.

According to Fox News, Weinstein was first alerted to the drive this week when he received a complaint from a cadet who was offended.

“The cadet sent an e-mail saying, ‘This just shows how our military is supporting one religion – which is Christianity,’” Weinstein said.

The academy initially stood by the decision to participate in the program, but reversed course Thursday. A new email to cadets retracted the earlier appeal for donations.

“We agree that it was inappropriate,” academy spokesman Lt. Col John Bryan told the Gazette. Instead, the academy’s chaplains — who are permitted to take part in and support religious projects — have taken over the drive.

Operation Christmas Child makes no attempt to hide its religious affiliation, stating on its website, “The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.”

The academy never denied the religious aspect of the charity, but said at first there was nothing wrong with the school’s participation. The cadets would donate toys and other items, but wouldn’t have anything to do with the religious message included with the gifts when they’re delivered, academy spokesman John Van Winkle originally said.

“It doesn’t promote a particular faith, it promotes a charity event,” he said.

Weinstein said he wouldn’t have a problem with the academy participating in a secular toy drive, or the new plan to have academy chaplains promote the religious charity. It was cadet leaders appearing to back Christian evangelism that crossed the line, he said.

“We got this one fixed,” he said.

Weinstein said he’s not trying to take away toys from children in need.

“We are not trying to take shoe boxes of toys and candy away from kids,” he told Fox. “But this is clearly an egregious Constitutional mistake.”

In an academy statement issued later in the day on Nov. 4, Brig. Gen. Richard Clark, commandant of cadets, reiterated that the chaplains will indeed be handling the matter, stating that the Chaplain Corps is responsible for advertising faith-based programs and events.

“This was an oversight by me that has been addressed and forwarded through the proper channels,” Clark said.  “The cadets’ had nothing but good intentions, but this was something that should have started with the Chaplains, not the Cadet Wing.  That doesn’t mean the cadets can’t volunteer for the Christmas toy drive, they can participate through the Cadet Chaplain Corps.”

Dano, they aren’t being “sensitive”. The anti-Christians have discovered that if just one of them complain then they can get their way. They hate God and His Son, Jesus the Christ and this is their way of doing battle for their father, Satan. It should be noted that Christmas is not Christian, it is a Pagan Holy day and the same can be said about Easter. Hey, why not fake em out, be kind and generous every day and every season of the year. Incidentally, Christmas Trees are Pagan also, read Jeremiah 10.

I would dearly love for this JERK Weinstein to show me ONE place in the constitution where this is not allowed. If he is talking about separation of church and state, then he is DUMBER THEN A ROCK!! There is no such thing and he is stupid if he thinks so.

As for the Air Force caving in to this guy, I can’t believe it. I always thought the military would be the last place to cave to someone like this, but I guess I was wrong again. Bunch of gutless wonders in the wrong places in the military now. Now I can understand why Obama is getting away with all this stuff he is pulling that IS against the constitution. No one in the government or military command structure has any guts anymore. They are only worried about being PC and to hell with the rest of the country.

“This just shows how our military is supporting one religion – which is Christianity, Weinstein said.” So what!!!! If you don’t like it, take a long walk off a short pier. I could care less if you are offended by Christian beliefs. This country was founded on them and if you don’t like this country, then leave and let us enjoy our Christian nation. No one ask you for your opinion and to tell the truth, you can shove it where the sun don’t shine. I don’t care if you like it or not. Just don’t try and shove you crap in my face. I am sick and tired of people like you telling me what to do and how to live my life. You can take you PC crap with you when you leave too……………

I have to say, I am ashamed to be a member of this organization when I read these types of headlines and stories. I joined the AF because I love my country, but the country I love is slowly becoming a memory. You can’t do good for others because its backed by a religion? I miss the united states from it’s a wonderful life. I miss the melting pot. Now it’s just a bunch of fu@#ing rocks bouncing around in a pit.

What the AF (at the very least) should have done is gotten a few other religious charities (jewish, muslim if there is such a thing, etc…) that were doing toy drives and sent out emails asking for help with them as well. We all know who people would donate the most to, but this would at least keep the children in the spotlight.

Its Christian only and even if one sole Christian is involved. I hope they’ll maintain this high standard when it comes to all religions….ummm sure. Now Christians can’t even be seen, heard or connected to anything related to our government in anyway shape or form. Thats not the idea of separation of church and state. Now we are talking about something totally different more like Totalitarianism.

“The U.S. Air Force Academy has pulled out of a Christian-sponsored children’s toy drive after commanders were accused of religious intolerance.”

These commanders are responding EXACTLY like a few whites on here, after a black on white mob beating, who wail and denigrate anyone as a racist who points out the plethora of black crime statistics.

All of these types make fine, intimidated white lemmings who are too spineless to stand up for themselves, their families and their friends.

The commanders are especially disgusting, because what they say and do affects millions of people.

This US Empire is continuing its empire ways, but it won’t be for long, because it is collapsing now at a much faster rate than in the past.

Paybacks will soon be the order of the day.

Is he so insecure in his own faith that he needs to denigrate other faiths however he can? It’s the spirit of giving that is important….and this toy drive did not dwell on any specific Christian faith.

Separation of Church and State, as it is known today, was brought to us by another bigoted group, namely the KKK. The klan, in addition to hating blacks, also hated Catholics. So, in as a trick to minimize political influence of Catholics, they forced their members to take a “Separation of Church and State” oath. This oath was taken by future USSC justice Black, who later made sure that the KKK interpreation of this phoney unconstitutional policy became the law of the land.

Weinstein, being the ignorant leftist dimwitted useful idiot that he is, has wrapped his loving arms around the KKK philosophy, for pretty much the same reason, to minimize the political influence of groups (Christians) that he does not agree with.

I do not blame all Jews for this kind of behavior. Jews, like any people, have a fair number of moronic leftist socialistic marxist nimrods in their midst. After all the KKK was dominated by white protestants that happened to also be democrats.

This is not a PC issue. The Jews (Weinstein) could have participated in the Christian children’s drive and would have been more than accepted. If the Jews had sponsored the toy drive, nothing in the Christian community would have complained. Those in the Christian community would have considered the Jewish participation, “THE MORE THE MERRIER.” So, Mr. Weinstein, who is selflish is trying to get a name for himself and has own an agenda to get his name in the headlines so that he can drum up more business for himself.. That is all there is to this issue.

Mr Weinstein’s behavior is classic, and it can be explained in the SCIENTIFIC context of Evolutionary Psychology. PLEASE take the time to read some of Dr. Kevin MacDonald’s articles. He very clearly and OBJECTIVELY identifies the nature and roots of Jewish activism (such as Mikey here is displaying) and properly frames it in the context of “Group Evolutionary Strategy”. Dr. MacDonald is a genius ahead of his time and as such is persecuted viciously for telling the truth.

I read the anger and the disgust, don’t leave it at that. They are coming to the ‘States to present papers to the University of Notre Dame and other venues. They need help to get there, are you able to respond? Please see their Blog here:http://www.mandm.org.nz/support-mandm

The secular word view is every bit as religious in principle as Christianity or any other religion. What is happening is that the so-called neutrality of the secular view is believed by too many, secularism is now the leader of culture, and is privileged above all other belief systems. That is not, nor was it ever the intention of the founding fathers!

Lets take a lesson out of Jesus’ book. When he healed (read- gave out shoe boxes) on the Sabbath, the religious ones, (read- secularist) objected- “you can’t do this, it’s wrong, it’s against the law”
Jesus response was- ” Since when was it wrong to do good?” on the Sabbath? on a U.S.A.F base?
(Mathew 12:10-14 paraphrased) Turn your annoyance into a good thing- support Mathew and Madeleine Flannagan to come to the ‘States and help shift the culture of politics. I have not been approached in any way by them, I just want to see them get there and say their piece. This is their blog: http://www.mandm.org.nz/support-mandm

In ‘America’ the military is run by the civilian “elected” leadership. That’s the way it is in the free world. That’s our burden to bear, as free people.

If the civilian leadership says: “Crap your pants” for me they’d go through generals until they found one who would. Our military reflects our civilian leadership in the structure at the time, like it or not. Right now, our military is worried about policy more than war. That was a turning point in the VietNam war as well. And as we see, we are bailing out, now, as fast as we can move that many people, their equipment, tools, resources et al logistically. Sort of a “Shock and Awe” at how fast we can retreat.

This is a great program to put a shoebox full of Christmas goodie into the hands of a child who could expect to receive nothing for Christmas otherwise. Printed materials bringing a Christian message are included in the boxes, but so what? If any other faith thinks the Christians are getting a drop on the evangelical opportunities around the world, then they should get busy with their own program. USAFA got this one wrong. It was a cowardly response. They went to great expense to build a Wiccan amphitheater a few years ago to placate a few wayward souls, but Christian cadets are not allowed to participate in Operation Christmas Child. Obama’s liberal, atheist, Communistic, Marxist team has been hard at work trying to take God out of this country – look at the Vote on “In God We Trust” – The Senate and the Congress got this on right – America is Glad and Obama is Sad! These Atheists Idiots represent less than 18% of the US population – it is time for the Church of Jesus Christ to stand up – Every pastor in America needs to preach this Sunday how God has protected the US in past Wars and we need his help even more in upcoming Wars. God Bless America – and please would just one Air Force Officer stick a boot up the ass of that Mickey Mouse looking character that is spewing all his Atheistic crap.

So I guess this man and “the cadet” feel no remorse for their selfishness .Even though it is at the expense of the children who would receive these gifts? Come on, this is just petty. This makes me angry. Christians do so much good worldwide and NEVER get credit for it. I would like to know a total talley that Christians have DONATED to help the needy. I would bet that it far exceeds any other charity. Why can’t people accept the fact ( whether you are or aren’t a Christian) that if everyone lived by the ten commandments and the golden rule the world would be a better place for everyone? To deny innocent people the contributions given by Christians only hurts those in need. For what, to prove a point? This goes much deeper and those who want to destroy our country and our freedoms are threatened by the Christians because they know that we will not stand on the sidelines while they push their agenda. It is odd to me how famous people come on TV and ask us to donate to these causes (and we do, as Christians) yet they won’t stop until they eliminate our faith. How does that make sense? We will NOT whorship any man, our faith is in God and no man will take his place in our hearts. Is this the threat? The fact that we can not be lured or brainwashed into submission? Is it for power? I believe that it is. The power of God is a threat to those who seek control over the human race. Let them try, they will loose. God has his own plan and will eliminate any evil that stands in the

Lets hope the Marine Corp has bigger balls than the, obviously castrated, Air Force does and tells anyone who wants to put a stop to Toys For Tots to go “F” themselves. I’m am not, nor will I ever be, politically correct. If that small percentage of people who are not Christian don’t like the fact that we celebrate CHRISTmas, go take a flying leap. I’m gonna be saying Merry Christmas again this year. If it offends, oh well. Get over yourself. The Air Force was wrong in caving to this kind of pressure. As said, I sure wouldn’t trust them to be brave enough to stand up and fight against an anti-Christian if the need arose. You can translate that to Muslim if you want. I don’t care.

      @LEE5155
What do you mean today? This has been an on going thing for 30-40+ years. The minority has been trying to make it look like it is a protest by the vast majority. It is our silence that give credit to the minority, as the politicians and military leaders do not hear our voice in disagreement.

Despite the fact that even if both sides gave their opinion, the political landscape would still remove the support due to the controversy of the subject (thus the minority still wins).

Sit that ONE cadet down and explain some American history to him. The USAF is taking part in a holiday that billions of people around the world celebrate. This isn’t the establishment of a national religion, it’s taking part in the biggest christian holiday and doing something to give to needy kids. For one a-hole to pipe up and say he’s offended (for what, who knows?) is ridiculous. He probably hates kids, too.

I always love how they throw in “Freedom FROM religion.” Most of these organizations forget what comes during the actual description of the Freedom of Religion clause. “The government shall make NO LAW regarding the establishment of religion or the FREE EXERCISE thereof.” The only only arrogance in this situation comes from the person who complained. Let these cadets hold a drive to send toys to impoverished nations.

@Cofemale, Mikey Weinstein probably just wants the freedom to pray or not pray as he chooses and he doesn’t wish to be proselytized to. Have you ever stood with Jews on a Friday evening as the sun set and been invited to “pray in Jesus” name at the dedication of a military lodging facility? I have, I quit praying in public at that very moment. Not wishing to be brow beaten into practicing Christianity is not the same thing as being against Christianity. I have been a devout Catholic married to a Jew for nearly 30 years, I spent more hours in Jewish services than I can count, with a few small limits, I have been welcomed with arms by the Jewish communities in multiple states and even overseas.

Lib, I disagree with you about 99% of the time but we hit common ground on this one. Your statement is clearly the meaning of tolerance. It’s about helping disadvantaged kids, to give them some kind of positive childhood memories. This would usually result in that child growing up and wanting to pass on that kind deed to another needed person.
