Air Force Announces Broad Cuts in Personnel and Equipment

Air Force Announces Cuts in Personnel and Equipment

(The Blaze/AP) The Air Force says it will cut the service by nearly 10,000 active, National Guard and Reserve airmen next year as part of a broad move toward force reduction and shifting of capabilities around the country to be better prepared for wars of the future.

Air Force leaders say more than half the personnel cuts, and much of the aircraft and other equipment moves, will be borne by the Air Guard.

The Air Force says the service cannot absorb any further cuts in active duty forces because that would limit their ability to respond to multiple crises. National Guard leaders are criticizing the cuts.

About 3,900 active duty, 5,100 Air Guard and 900 Air Force reserves would be cut in the next year.

This is insanity how does force reduction make you ready for any thing except loosing – were in big trouble this is not were you make cuts these are jobs peoples lives and these pig dems dont care – we shrink the military then pay contractors 10 k a month to do what a specialist does — typical corruption and greed – WHY DO DE TOLERATE IT

I agree who ever is in charge needs to resign or be fired !
If when we come under attack the Air Force will be the first line of defense against a ground or air invasion Navy moves to slowly but can use their Carriers if in the area. We must be prepared on all borders. Someone is not thinking right the Army can only defend our borders or be used as a invasionary force but must rely on the Air Force.
As for the soon to be unemployed soldiers either keep them employed as Border agents, TSA and Port Authority workers and get rid of the corrupt, overpaid and union workers. A soldier is more cost efficient than paying outrageous salaries to the inefficients we employ now.

Over the years they have replaced GI’s with civilian contractors. Iraq was loaded with civilian contractors doing mundane GI jobs but being paid more in a week than a GI made in a couple of months. I went up to visit West Point a couple of years ago and ran into civilian guards at the gate. I said to them “what happened to the MP’s? They told me that after 9/11 the MPs were replaced by civilian contractors !! So folks this is just another way of getting the civilian contractors in to take over more of the Air Forces jobs and over time pick up a lot more of our tax dollars…….You know if they REALLY were interested in saving money they would look to all the armed services and military contracting companies and get some IG’s (Inspector Generals) and cut fraud and waste !!! Because take it from this writer who was in Procurement in the Armed Services and then later worked for a military contractor, the mindset of so many people in those arenas always was “It’s not my money, who cares how it is spent and/or wasted”

Remember when Obama said that he wanted to create a civilian police force that was better equiped than the military? We had an acronyn–BOHICA–Bend Over Here It Comes Again

I would much rather cut Senators & Cabinets & other government representatives than cut military personnel & equipment. What say the rest of you?
Governors can represent their states with backup by Lt. Governors. The other reps can be replaced by members at local levels & departments can be consolidated & eliminated. Equipment contracts need to be scrutinized & re-structured. If government at all levels was reduced to what is necessary & budgets were trimmed & the general fund was managed by investors who know how to make money grow & can be trusted to leave the increasing funds alone, then we could keep all those military personnel whom I consider to be more useful & necessary than our government reps. I’d much rather have the Air Force & Reservists in this country than a bunch of blowhards who have sold us down the river to foreign interests or pocketed our tax dollars through convoluted thievery. It’s a real simple matter of useful on the one hand & completely useless & a burden on the other. Those who serve us… Or those who serve only themselves. It’s not a tough choice, is it?

Funny thing you mention general funds that is one of our problems as politicians like to spend money as the general funds got spent they seemed to transfer money from appropriated funds into the general funds so they could spend as they wish.

      ap·pro·pri·at·ed
      1. To set apart for a specific use
      2. To take possession of or make use of exclusively for oneself, often without permission
Therefore it is called misappropriation of funds and to anyone other than Congress it would be a crime.

I’m Guessing: Ron Paul will say Obama‘s military cuts don’t go far enough.

Normally, Republicans would put up a united front against cuts in military spending. But maybe not this time. One old school isolationist has a national stage, passionate supporters, and several more debates to argue the case for less spending.

If you were President Obama, announcing cuts when one prominent [republican?] is likely to back you, looks like good timing.

I went through the cuts that Clinton championed during his presidency. Let me tell you it was not a fun time to be a service member. We lost really good airmen, and had to make due with drastically drawn down units. Yea we made the best of a bad situation but if we had gone to war during that time it would have been 1942 all over again and we would have had to fight from behind once again. Funny how the only thing in the constitution that we are actually supposed to have taken care of by our federal government is the first place that the demoncrats ALWAYS run to.

If Obumbler tries to turn the military against the citizens mosrt of them will not comply. The oath they take gives them the right to disobey illegal orders.
National Guardsmen can be reactivated by governors, they are state assets not federal and they will not turn on their neighbors.
Obumbler and the UN must also take in to consideration all of us retired military, most of whom are armed, and are still willing to respond to a threat to our country. Most of us own or will obtain military type weapons but will respond with .22s and shotguns if necessary.

SOYBOMB. Ron Paul’s naive and simplistic libertarian ideology is what blinds HIM to the reality of the world… and you will gladly follow his nonsensical musings at your own peril.

Non-Interventionism is the “ism” of doing nothing… ever. You can spin Ron Paul and his pacifist , isolationist Code-Pink ideology any way you see fit, but it doesn’t change what Ron Paul would be a “do nothing” where American interests and security would be at risk.

Ron Paul and his supporters reside mostly on the left on most issues and are cetainly NOT Conservative. You are neo-lib quasi-cons, and usually can hit all the Dem talking points when given the chance except on the economy (for the most part).

yea, see i dont think you understand non-interventionism. Actually, isolationism is the ‘ism’ of doing nothing. Non-interventism is the ‘ism’ of doing something only when our national security is at risk.

I consider the economy and our system of government to be the absolute biggest problem today. Ron Paul is rock solid on the economic issues and should be given applause because he has completely refuted all the arguements for big government and shadow government (such as the federal reserve). Someone like you (you do believe in a smaller federal government, dont you?) should be happy he is still around talking about these issues.

Don’t like his foreign policy? Thats fine – then your candidate should have no problem debating him on the issue. If you are correct, there is no reason to fear his ideas.

BOMB.’Non-interventionism/Isolationism” is no more a principle than “interventionism” is. It’s not obvious to me that “never intervene” is a wiser, more sensible, more prudent or more just approach than “always intervene” would be.

It seems to me SOY, rather, to be the sort of crutch one falls back on instead of engaging in the difficult, messy business of an actual principled approach to evaluating any given situation. It allows you to escape having to know or care at all about any particular situation, because you’ve got a one-size-fits-all answer to any and every question.

As far a my “obsession” with Ron Paul? I’m also obsessed with Barack Obama. I think one should be kicked out of the White House and the other should never get near it.

If it is a particular situation you want to talk about – then do so. All i ever hear you say are blanket statements calling him pink/liberal/isolationist. He has no problem if israel took out the iranian sites and he thinks we should stop telling israel what to do and how to handle their noisy neighbors.

I leave you with one question: If ron paul is so against the military – then why does he get more financial support from military families than all the other republicans, combined??? I am dying to know

Your hatred of ron paul blinds you

SOYBOMB. You are a late comer to my postings. So you‘ll have to go back and do some research if you want to know what else I’ve said with detail in regards to… well… anything. I don’t jump when a Ron Paul groupie asks for this and that. Guess you’ll have to keep “hunting me down” for answers to other questions depending on The Blaze topic.

Ron Paul’s military support has been debunked. It’s there… well, kinda’. Not what you groupies would like others to believe. Just like most Ron Paul polls/ballot stuffing etc… this was an easy ruse for the… ruse minded on the internet.

I am not a blazebot so I cannot follow. with regard to military financial support – i have no idea what you mean and it appears you are reluctant to talk about it.

      till next time

C’mon SOY… do I need to spell it out for you? Anyone can submit an internet donation under $200.00 and claim whatever the hell they want as “occupation” without it having to be verified. Based on what we’ve seen from Paul supporters on any number of things where skewing can occur… you can take it from there BOMB. Ron Paul supporters are like the boy who cried wolf. You know the fable right?

Even if it was on the up and up (which it’s not) you can crunch the numbers other ways and see that it’s not a whole lot of support overall. Ron Paul supporters, just like having numerous accounts on the internet, want their numbers to always appear larger than they actually are. This game by Paul groupies has been going on for awhile. Why do you think many just avoid and ignore y’all on the internet? Not because you folks are all that bright… it‘s mostly because you bore the hell outa’ most.

Me? I‘m not bored by y’all in the slightest. You are entertainment for me when “I’M” bored.

The establishment republican party (even hanity and beck) are not fans of ron paul. Surely if this was going on – they would accuse him of it. I have never heard this argument before and you are basing it on nothing. I am looking into it.

If we are so boring – i wonder how ron paul gets so much support from the youth!? You cannot deny young people overwhelmingly support paul. I am watching the nevada returns right now – ron paul gets 40% of the under 30 vote.

You are grasping for straws so lets continue this some other time

    Cool.

Now if we could just get the Reds to eliminate 50-75 % of the public sector work force, we’d be well on our way to a livable future. Entitlement spending is going to eat us alive.
