Al Jazeera Op-Ed Compares Glenn Beck to Al-Qaeda Terrorist Over Norway Massacre

Al Jazeera op ed Ahmed Moor Compares Glenn Beck to Anwar Al Awlaki Norway ShootingRemember when conservatives were blamed for the massive shooting in Arizona in January? Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin were among the scapegoats. And while the U.S. media hasn’t yet pointed the finger at popular American conservatives, one outlet has just published an op-ed piece doing just that. Which outlet? The White House’s favorite foreign news source, Al Jazeera.

The op-ed, posted on Al Jazeera’s website on Sunday, is the work of Ahmed Moor. The outlet calls him “a Palestinian-American freelance journalist based in Cairo“ who ”was born in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.” What it doesn’t say, but what is clear in the piece, is that he’s not a fan of Glenn Beck.

He opens his article by decrying “right-wing propaganda“ and ”reactionary bigotry:”

The Norwegian terrorist who murdered more than ninety innocent civilians – many of whom were teenagers – did not act alone. Or rather, he acted within a cultural and political context that legitimises his fearful and hate-infested worldview. It is now clear that Anders Behring Breivik was exposed to large amounts of right-wing propaganda. This tragedy underlines the urgency with which normal people around the world must combat fundamentalist nationalists and chauvinists wherever they may be. But it also demonstrates the extent to which reactionary bigotry has infected mainstream thought.

What kind of “right-wing propaganda?“ How about ”right-wing zealots” like Glenn Beck who, according to Moor, is comparable to American-born Al Qaeda operative Anwar Al-Awlaki:

[...] But the combatants are not Islam and the West. Instead, the war is between the normal, sane people of the world and the right-wing zealots who see doom, destruction, hellfire and God’s Will at every turn.

Writer Ahmed Moor compared Glenn Beck to an Al Qaeda terrorist.

Anders Behring Breivik, Mohammed Atta and Baruch Goldstein are all cut from the same rotten cloth. Anwar Al-Awlaki and Glenn Beck – the peddlers of the faith – all share the same core afflictions.

These men are insecure, violently inclined, and illiberal. The outside world scares them. They hate homosexuals and strong women. For them, difference is a source of insecurity. Their values are militarism, conformism, chauvinism and jingoism. Worst of all they seek to pressure us into compliance while they work frantically to destroy themselves – and the rest of us with them.

The accusation that Beck is somehow responsible for the Norway attacks is laughable. Beck has never expressed a hate toward homosexuals or women, and certainly doesn’t advocate violence (one of his greatest heros is Ghandi). He regularly calls for peace and even held a non-political event in Washington, D.C. last year to encourage people to find God.

So how absurd is the charge? Well, even Al Jazeera made sure to keep some distance from the claim. At the bottom of its op-ed (as with all its op-eds), the outlet posted the following message:

The views expressed in this article are the author‘s own and do not necessarily reflect Al Jazeera’s editorial policy.

But could this be a veiled attack on Beck for his support for Israel? Beck has been an ardent support of Israel’s right to exist in the face of pressure from Palestinians who accuse the country of “occupation.” That has made him a regular target.

Considering Moor is originally from the Gaza Strip — one of the hotly-contested territories in Israel — is this a chance to demonize Beck ahead of his upcoming Restoring Courage event in the Holy Land?

In 2010, Moor regularly penned anti-Israel op-eds for the Huffington Post, including “Israel Cannot be Both Jewish and Democratic” and “Zionism Is Not Judaism.”

      (1) These people had no way to defend themselves because guns are illegal… ironically.

      Off topic, but what with the big picture of him on the Blaze I’m curious. What’s with the stubble beard/ I always wonder this too when I see Pat. He’s never clean shaven but his “beard” is never long enough to look decent. It just looks like he hasn’t shaved for a few days. Now Glenn is doing the same thing over his chin.

      Why not let it grow out and look decent? If you don’t want a real beard then shave. Muslims do this because their tradition say they must have a beard because Muhammad had one, so they grow their whiskers just enough to show they aren’t shaven. Tye blook sort of Western but are really being Islamic.

The liberals don’t argue with facts, but with emotion, so would you expect them to have any facts to back up this arguement?       Hard pill to swallow, huh? Anonymous, I don’t think anyone would jump to conclusion that Beck “caused” the massacre, as much as you’d like to believe that that is the liberal agenda. What Moor is saying and what any American who hasn’t bought a season pass to the Beck circus cleearly sees is his divisive nature. Instead of encouraging dialogue on bridging the miscommunication between the modern Muslim world and the modern Christian world, he chooses and cheerleads for one side thereby preserving the momentum of thousands of years of conflict.       The amount of flack Glenn Beck gets is incredible. People always accuse Fox News as being extreme right wing crazies. But let’s take a quick look at things. Look at how many left leaning news sources are out there. From Broadcasting to Print, there’s a lot of options. If you’re looking for right leaning news, you’ve got extremely limited broadcasting and print choices, of which Fox News is the kingpin of. So of course it draws flack. It has to encompass all things right wing.

      Islam is evil. Their slaughter of children for the past 1400 years still goes unchecked. I’m not condoning the death of innocent children at all I admonish the killings of these children as much as I do Muslims killing 1000 times more then he did. I just find it truly amazing that Islam and it’s propaganda machine push their distorted half truths on Americans and expect us to believe it.

      We have whacked out loons like rose-ellen who are nothing more then a propaganda arm for the likes of CAIR and Hamas but Americans who are informed and educated of the designs of Islam and their push to a world caliphate can see thru these enemies of freedom and liberty.

      We know the slaughter of children from Islam in the past. We see the slaughter of children from Islam in the present and we will try to prevent the slaughter of children from Islam in the future. Killing children is not the way. Exposing Islam to free thinking minds is.

      The propaganda machine is hard at work keeping the truth form you. All these stories form the media that try to throw the blame at conservatism is nothing more then deflection from their own history and we’re just not that stupid.

      It’s Allah, to English speakers, but it’s Al-lah to non-English speakers. The origination of the word isn’t from the fallen angel Lucifer. In fact, the Arabic name for Satan is “Iblis”, which is borrowed from the Greek “diabolos”.

      Al-lah most likely closely related to Hebrew’s “Elohim” which refers to a multiplicity of Gods, because as every educated Christian like you should know, Judaism came from pagan beliefs regarding many gods. “E-lo-him” was a safety referring to a single god when the religion floated toward monotheism. So, E-loh and Al-lah.

      I wonder how you would feel if people freely and regularly referred to you as a ‘Christian piece of filth.’ The Blazers frequently use vulgar, and purposefully insulting language when speaking of Islam. You guys equate it with Satan, calling their main prophet ugly names, and basically burn all bridges as far as reconciling and achiving piece. I think that it is shortsighted to pick a fight with 23% of the world’s population. Islam is the world’s second largest religion, after Christianity.

      Christians don’t fall for the lie and sadly it seems most are. 

      Muslims are as destructive as Atheists, Budahists, Scientologists, Jews, or any other religion that rejects Jesus Christ as the ONLY Christ and Savior. Any non believer is destructive and works against Christ’s teachings knowingly or unknowingly. 

      If the majority of the world can’t/don‘t follow Christ Jesus’s footsteps FREELY what makes you think the world will follow a forceful religion such as Islam? Some will but most will leave it and overthrow it due to the oppression.

      Which is more harmful, the religion openly threatening to cut your head off from another country or the false religions or lack of effecting your daily lives silently and subtly in your own country? 

      Islam and it’s crazies has and will do nothing but bring the Evil Christian Church back around again in full scale as you can clearly see being communicated by professed “Christians” on this board.

      Infedel is probably the worst word applied to a human in thier sect, and comes with the penalty of DEATH! Even for one of thier own.
      There are no bridges to be burnt, there is no way for a true Christian to make peace with satan or his ilk. The “Peace” that a muslim refers to when speaking about “Peace” is the peace that will come once the infedel’s of the world have been slain or converted. Then there will be “Peace” as described in the qaran. that is the definition of muslim/islamic “Peace”.

      Al Jazeera is actually a well respected professional news agency, and is available everywhere in Europe as well as Israel. Israeli politicians do interviews on Al Jazeera. You should try to watch it some time–your eyes will not fall out. They do a lot of original stories, and they also cover a lot of topics that we never see on US news–like everyday issues and life stories of people living in the Third World. It is not always political at all-it is often human interest, economic, crime, environment related, although of course political news has a prominent role like on every news channel.

      I watch Al Jazeera with the sound off. The pictures are unfiltered. Theot cameras are often stationed where CNN and others have no access. I do not need anyone to provide commentary about what I am seeing.
