Rev. Al Sharpton has started up his own media company to launch and produce a syndicated Sunday morning television show and print magazine.
According to The Hollywood Reporter
, Sharpton’s show, “Education Superhighway,” will be unveiled Thursday morning during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 40th Annual Legislative Conference and will begin airing on Sept. 26. Each show will reportedly consist of news and roundtable discussions on a variety issues, but mostly revolving around education.
Sharpton has already booked some big names to help him get his program up and running. Confirmed guests include Bill Gates, Newt Gingrich, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers union.
Sharpton told THR that anything controversial about his new show will come from those who “want education to remain mediocre.”
“If Newt Gingrich and I could tour the country together … at the request of President Obama, and they are like oil and water … then that shows that this is one issue that all Americans should unite over;” Sharpton said. “Newt and I don’t agree on anything at all — not even that today is Monday — but we do agree that we have an education problem.”
Later this month, education will also be a subject discussed by moviegoers. “Waiting for Superman,” a documentary chronicling problems in the public and charter school systems will hit theaters Sept. 24.

Posted on September 14, 2010 at 10:00pmGood for him, let‘s hope it’s not a political show, and purports education. Common sense dictates that education starts at home. Families need to teach that their children that financial footing or lack there of is no excuse for their children to act out in hate and violence. Frankly I think they should be much more accountable ( fines or if need be, prosecution) …excuses and crutches be gone. I think President Obama’s speech today goes a long way in conveying this message,i importance of education and is inspiring …. I‘m glad he’s once again done so. It’s one of the very very very very few things I admire about him…maybe it’s the only thing, but it’s a positive impact.

Posted on September 14, 2010 at 9:49pmI don’t get it. I really don’t. What makes this guy appealing or his opinion on ANY topic valued? Is it the fact that he was ordained a minister at the tender age of 9? How can a 9 year old grasp the knowledge necessary to be considered a Reverand? He is a self-proclaimed activist….and values criticism as concrete evidence of his effectiveness, when in fact, he is a race baiter and media whore.

Posted on September 14, 2010 at 9:45pmWhat church is it exactly that he is a reverend of? And while we are on that subject, why is it that the left side folks don’t seem to mind this “Reverend” speaking his mind but other Pastors, Rabbi’s, and Priests (are simply spewing hatred and racism according to them) and are to be ignored as much as possible?

Posted on September 14, 2010 at 9:43pmI dont want that racist Sharpton teaching, or discussing the education of, my children a deadgum thing. In his mind, or so it seems of late, my children should be ashamed to be the daughter of a Tea Partying White woman from the heartland.
But never fear… I am raising 4 kids to grow up to be tea partiers from the heartland too… that my dear is called MULTIPLICATION.

Posted on September 14, 2010 at 9:42pmDon’t trust him. Nope. I don’t know how it will start out, but I have a feeling it’s going to spin right into something else, if it stays on the air long enough. Newt is not one of my favorite people and Gates is more than a little questionable, IMO. We’ll see how it goes, but not feeling a good vibe on this one.

Posted on September 14, 2010 at 9:25pmGroovy.
Hope the financing is organized better for this effort than what Mr. Sharpton has pulled off for his “National Action Network” that seeems to be on life support at this time.
Perhaps he can hire Maxine Waters or Christine Roehmer to be CFO.
Otherwise, this idea sounds like the snooze button that most students love in the morning.

Posted on September 14, 2010 at 9:23pmLovely. A chance for Herr Sharpton to vilify the inequalities inherent in today’s educational system. Where children of Minority families are not privy to the same standards set for schools who cater to predominantly white communities.
I’m sorry, really, but education begins at home. My Wife and I read to both of our children nearly from the time of conception through this day. (Ages 7 and 5 now.) I have made games and songs dealing with basic math that we play together and have a barrel of laughs doing so. I am a *parent*, and I do not leave my Sons’ education in the hands of underpaid and unmotivated public school teachers.
Our children’s future depends not on “the system”, but on their parents. Let’s see if Mr. Sharpton bothers to touch that political firebomb.

Posted on September 15, 2010 at 12:38pmUnderpaid and unmotivated? I’m sorry, I was under the impression from the time I was a little girl that teaching is a calling. If one goes into the teaching field it should be because you care about children and teaching the truth without any agenda for yourself. Yes , back in the day teachers did make far less , but now they are in a very comfortable place with(democrate paid for union representation). I find it very hard to have any sympathy for teachers when they have the attitude (experience here talking) “It doesn‘t matter wheather you pass or not I’m going to get paid anyway.” that is a direct quote from a teacher to my son. Not to mention the eye rolling at me when I tell them I don’t want my children to wear uniforms(they’re not little robots to be in lockstep) , it doesn’t teach them math any better, it doesn’t teach them to comprehend what they are reading any better etc. My tax dollars aren’t improving anything for my kids, I frankly am getting tired of paying for supplies and getting nickled and dimed to death when they already have the government dishing out funds and for what? computers? if computers were so hot in the class room why can’t my son do simple multiplying? No, I don‘t think it’s because they are underpaid and unmotivated they’re just progressive political puppets.
Sorry for the long read- this is one of my many pet peeves!
