Alan Colmes to Santorum: I‘m Sorry for ’Hurtful Comment‘ About Handling of Baby’s Death

Yesterday, the Blaze reported on the heated on-air exchange between National Review Editor Rich Lowry and liberal commentator Alan Colmes. Lowry took particular issue with the words that Colmes used to describe the way in which Rick Santorum and his wife handled the death of their infant Gabriel back in 1996. Now, following the spat, Colmes has apologized to the Santorum family and admitted wrongdoing.

On Twitter yesterday, the leftist commentator wrote, “just spoke to @ricksantorum. He and Karen graciously accepted my apology for a hurtful comment.”

Earlier in the day, Colmes had offended Santorum when he said, ”Once [voters] get a load of some of the crazy things [Santorum's] said and done, like taking his two-hour-old baby who died right after childbirth home and played with it for a couple of hours so his other children would know that the child was real…”

Lowry interjected and called his commentary “a cheap shot,” though Colmes initially defended the statement. Now, he’s singing a very different tune. Following his apology and the subsequent tweet announcing it, he is embracing the notion that he made a mistake.

    I think the only thing he is sorry about is getting such a backlash. He calculates that he and his kind are immune from backlash by the liberal press, just like Obama and his henchmen. Pressure and sunlight on these mutants will keep them in the closet where they belong. Fox has truly moved to the dark side with the rash of these characters that they have loaded their programming with. I‘m finding that Fox organization appalling and I’m guessing that I’m not the only one.

      This piece of fecal matter did exactly what he wanted to do and accomplish. He put that out there just like a defense attorney and no matter what the judge instructs the jury about disreguarding what they heard, they heard it!
      He could not dig up dirt that he wanted to use so he said this, in a way as to draw in question Mr Santorums judgement. This was a very calculated remark.

      I have never liked Colmes . I also do not like Jaun Williams or B. Beckel. I think if you want to listen to liberals spout off go to cnn or msnbc. I never watch the “five”. Beck was so much better. Fox is not as good as it used to be. I also think they are starting to lean left. Colmes , Williams, Beckel and a few others is the reason I don’t watch much fox anymore.

      Why did Colmes think his comment was “hurtful?” He was referring to a MASS OF TISSUE, a ‘product of conception’ not a human being.

      Colmes has always been a dirtball. Posters are right, he knew what he was doing by letting this get out there. However, it is creepy, and wrong, to bring a dead baby home to show your children, thats something that probably messes a childs mind up permanently. Bad choice. Bad decision.

      I think its ludicrous that some people here are defending him, saying “you can’t judge”, etc.
      thats liberal nonsense, bringing a dead child to your home is extremely foolish or completely psychotic, or both, and i wouldn’t want someone with either of these traits running our country.

A lot of people in our part of the counrty have a veiwing at home rather then a funeral home, just because you don‘t love a child that much dosen’t mean someone else can’t.       I knew that Colmes would attempt defend pretty much anything left-wing, but his smarmy comments about the Santorum’s deceased infant were beyond the pale and did not fit the image I had of him as a generally good guy who may have been dropped on the left side of his head at birth. I suspect (would hope) that his wife may have nailed him coming through the door, hence the apology. That or his conscience caught up with him. (Or is that the same thing?)

      I agree with Santorum on most things and could see myself voting for him in November, if he;s the guy.

      That said, I say it again: This was kind of a whackadoo thing to do. He slept with the corpse between he and his wife in the hospital and took the corpse home so his brothers and sisters could meet him before they buried it.

      I’m sorry, but that’s disurbing to me.

      That said, I agree that the only thing Colmes is sorry for is the fact that he stirred the hornet’s nest, and I agree that this was a tactical strike an awful lot like a lawyer saying something he’d been instructed not to say to a jury, forcing the judge tells them to ignore. Well, they can’t just ignore it.

      Seems like it’s better that Santorum’s kids see the child looking like a baby to grieve, than having a closed casket funeral later.
      On a related note, you can still view Vladimir Lenin‘s remarkably preserved corpse prominently displayed under glass at his tomb in Moscow’s Red Square. (Then again, it’s probably really a plastic replica– only Joan Rivers would know for sure) That’s not considered strange by the lefties, yet they pounce on Santorum for an hour or two?

      I‘ll be the first to admit I’m not an Alan Colmes fan. He’s on FOX for reasons besides being their token liberal: he looks kind of goofy and he doesn’t have the quick verbal skills and aggressiveness to debate the conservative hosts on FOX. He can accept, to get a paycheck, keeping his mouth shut while the conservatives on FOX make their point. The guy is an employee of FOX because he can’t hold his own. FOX wouldn’t keep a liberal person who could hold his own and not close his mouth to let Hannity or whomever else get the last word.

      His comment was out of line. But I’ll say again, you have to be pretty dang religious to sleep with a dead baby and then take the dead baby home for your kids to meet. That takes a lot religion for that to seem normal. A whole lot.

      No you are not the only one. I have to say that Fox is not the News station that it was 18 months ago…..They have become tolerant of comments from their own staff that are really out of line….I think Santorum has integrity and class to take his apology, but Fox should have reacted first..I believe he should be fired over this. Yesterday I hooked up my Roku box to my TV and watched this years first episode of Glenn Beck in Texas…It was great. GBTV has proven that it is the best $4.95 a month that I spend.

      Maybe Santorum did take the dead baby home & hold its’ hand. It is hard to let go. It is not a combat situation where you have to compartmentalize it & move on instantaneously.

      I have seen a film where a primate had a dead infant. They kept carrying for it for over a day. They knew the infant was dead but couldn’t let go. Eventually they did.

      Of course liberals are into ninth month abortions, euthanasia of old people & all manner of discarding people. No doubt many a liberal would say “it died two minutes ago, throw it in the trash can already FFS”.

      I use to listen to Alan Colmes once a month. I don;t want to be drinking cool aid, so I have listened to him as well as Thom Hartman, Randi Rhoades & Hightower.

    I do appreciate Alan accepting responsibility for his words BUT, he should be at least suspended if not still fired. I have worked for large corps for years and if anyone had said what he said in a meeting or even to one other person THEY WOULD BE FIRED! He does not have control over his hateful Liberal Biased mind…if it‘s not full blown liberal it’s wrong in his mind…Alan, Go work for Gore…while you can. My wife and I lost two children within 20 weeks and if I was Rick I would forgive Alan but still ask Fox to tag him with “Some” sort of consequence for his words.

It was a calculated, deliberate attack on Rick Santorum’s beliefs and actions.     I do not see how any “Christian” could vote for Rick Santorum. 

    Sure, he says things you want to hear but when you break his words down as well as his record Rick is in constant contradiction.

    Rick Santorum voted for spending, more spending which is not a Christian value. We Christian’s live within our means. Rick was part of the problem that created to the deficit. I’m Taxed Enough Already and Rick Santorum would spend more raising my taxes. 

    Rick Santorum voted for and openly supports foreign aid to Muslim tyrants who hate Israel which breaks two Christian values, aiding Israel’s enemies and welfare internationally. 

    Rick Santorum openly supports defending Muslim tyrants like Saudi Arabia who hate Israel. Rick also openly supports arming Muslim tyrants who hate Israel like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Egypt. Helping Israel’s enemies is not standing with Israel. 

    Rick Santorum wants more spending as seen by his record.
    Rick Santorum wants more foreign aid. (International Welfare)
    Rick Santorum wants to arm, aid, and defend Muslim tyrants who hates Israel. 

    I do not see how any Christian can vote for Rick Santorum 
    I do not see how any Conservative can vote for Rick Santorum
    I do not see how any TEA can vote for Rick Santorum 

    Please look yourself and you will see how contradicting Rick Santorum really is…

      Also notice Rick and Obama share those things in common: 
      Rick and Obama both support foreign aid. (Redistribution of wealth internationally, welfare internationally)
      Rick and Obama both support aiding, defending, and arming Muslim tyrants who hate Israel. 
      Rick and Obama both support more spending
      Rick and Obama both support Intervention.

      Can you explain that please? 

      Christians, TEA, and Conservatives should not support Rick Santorum. 

      I‘m not driven by fear of Obama’s army and will not come crying to you either. Fear creates irrational reactions, like voting for another progressive….I‘ll trust God and I’ll cry to Him.

      Can you explain Rick’s contradictions instead of distracting with name calling? (Which makes you in contradiction of your complaints about Ron Paul supporters)

      Please explain how aiding, arming, and defending Muslim tyrants who hate Israel is standing with Israel.

      Please explain how voting for more spending is aligned with TEA.

      Please explain why Obama and Rick hold those same policies. 

      Only those who cannot defend Rick’s contradicting positions will post distractions…Looking for honest conversation here….
