‘All of You are White. Go to Hell!’: Dallas Politician Flips Out at Public Mtg

Dallas County Commissioner  John Wiley Price is not apologizing after telling citizens they are “white” and can “Go to hell” (and calling one person “fat boy”) during a public meeting Tuesday. According to him, the exchange was appropriate because he thought he was being called a racial slur. And it‘s not the first time he’s had an outburst at such a meeting:

Six citizens addressed the court. All of them talked about the recent controversial departure of county Elections Administrator Bruce Sherbet.  Sherbet, who was the Elections Administrator for 24 years, said he felt Price and Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins forced him out.

The last public speaker at Tuesday’s meeting, Jeff Turner, began by stating that he would refer to “a certain member of the court” — Price — as “the Chief Mulllah of Dallas County.”

Court rules state that public speakers may not address individual commissioners by name.

As Turner spoke, he continued to call Price “Chief Mulllah.” Price interrupted Turner several times, yelling at him, “don’t call me Chief Mulllah” and “call me by my name.”

The New Oxford American Dictionary defines “mullah” as “a Muslim learned in Islamic theology and sacred law.”

Turner continued speaking, ignoring Price’s ongoing interruptions.

At that point, Jenkins adjourned the meeting.

As Price stood to leave, he looked at Turner and the five other citizens who addressed the court. Price said to them, “All of you are white.  Go to hell!”

Price repeated “go to hell” three more times. An unknown member of the audience said, “You should be ashamed!”

“I’m not ashamed!” Price answered. “I’m not ashamed! Go to hell!”

In response to the controversy, Wiley issued a statement justifying his actions on the basis that he was called a racial slur. But he also made the curious accusation that one of those calling him out was from the “Tea Party” which is “known for their racial insensitivity” [Warning: The statement has not been changed and includes some racial slurs]:

In the absence of a fair and balanced media outlet in Dallas, I wanted to submit a statement that offers my perspective of an “encounter” that took place at Dallas County today. Unfortunately, my comments were broadcasted without the benefit and the full context which they were made.

I have been patient and accommodating in every regard as it pertains to the recent resignation of a Dallas County employee. There are laws and business practices in place that govern the discussion of personnel matters and I will honor and respect them. I even went as far as to grant a candid one-on-one interview with the Dallas Morning News and have done countless interviews with others.

However, in open court today, after every considerate attempt to discuss the matter further, one of the speakers shot off a racial slur. “Chief Moolah” has its roots in a slang that was used against Italian immigrants and was later used by the same to defame or discredit African Americans. The speaker continued to use terms like “tribal” and his intent to make race an issue was obvious. “Nigger” is “Nigger,” spoken overtly or incognito.

My history and record will reflect that I am one whose tolerance is limited or non-existent when it comes to racial slurs. The comments were bad enough, but to have them hurled by a member of the Tea Party, known for their racial insensitivity, was more than I plan to absorb.

This is in no way an attempt to apologize to those with who felt the need to infuse race into an otherwise orderly meeting. But all of my friends, black, white and brown alike, are well aware that I am always willing to debate, but never at the expense of my race and my heritage.

Late yesterday evening, Price made sure it was clear he was not apologizing for his comments:

According to CBSDFW.com, there was some confusion about what exactly Turner was calling Price. But Turner clarified his remarks to the news station, prompting it to include the following note at the end of its story:

Also, we originally reported that Turner had called Price “chief moolah,” not “Mullah.” Based on Price’s statement, above, it appears that’s also what Price heard. We talked to Jeff Turner later in the day and he said he intended to call Price “Chief Mullah,” but acknowledged that he might have mispronounced it as “moolah.”

This isn‘t the first time Price has lost it during a commissioner’s meeting. Last year he had an almost violent outburst while the meeting’s chair was trying to restore order:

    Price has always been racist and makes racist remarks all the time. But when you call him out on the slurs. He just gets violent and starts cursing. He’s learning from the rest of them that think that AMERICA owes them something. But when it comes down to actual facts he just starts yelling. He should have been kicked out long ago.

      EXACTLY!!!!!!! To me race is the absolute very least problem that we as Americans are facing now. With everything going on right now, who gives a rats azz about freaking skin color.       GODLOVINMOM, While I agree that it is out of control, I don’t think the white race is responsible for it. It seems to me that electing our first Afro-American to the office of the prresident has caused nothing but further division between the two races. It is a shame because it could have had such a positive effect within our society. obama had the opportunity and blew it. His agenda must divide the races in order to get the results needed to take this country down. This guy clearly shows that the black community leaders for the most part hate the white race, and those that don’t side with their own race are considered to be traitors to their people. No elected official should discriminate against any race. And that includes our own president that called to the latinos to punish their enemies. Meaning those of us that are white and any of us that oppose his progressive agenda, black , latino, or white.

      I looked up “Moolah” in the online dictionary, regular and slang, and it made no reference to what Mullah Price was saying. Maybe there is an African-American slang definition out there somewhere, or maybe Price didn’t have a clue what it meant and that was the easiest charge to make. In fact, that would be the obvious pattern of behavior for reverse racism.

      Similar coverage from the AP as Mayor Nagin received on his chocolate city rhetoric. What hypocrisy! And though not a Tea Party member, I have yet to see any racism or violence by anyone, black, white, or any other hue among that group. I’ve long said America should hold the press more accountable for blatant errors in English language, intentional or not…Most of the “African Americans” I know, some close friends, should more appropriately be referred to as “Americans of African descent” or the Italian Americans as “Americans of Italian descent”, etc. We are all Americans first and foremost, and despite the fact the media has tried to divide and conquer, 60-70% of Americans are still true blue patriots who love America!

      Seems to me that I remember some bureacrat in D.C. losing his job years ago because he used an adjective that SOUNDED LIKE, but was not, the N word. The adjective used refers to a very small amount of any substance and apparently comes from one of the Scandinavian countries.

      When one is on a Board or a Commission, it is expected that one will conduct oneself in an appropriate manner. Calling the speaker out of order was fine. However the personal remarks that followed after the adjournment of the meeting were not.

      While this all might have just faded into the distance in the past, this fool’s words have gone viral. And actions have consequences. Hopefully, he’ll be voted out or removed from office or no longer welcomed in the future.

      So, the moral of the story is that IF you are convinced someone is making racial remarks at you, THEN because such remarks are illegitimate and make you “a little upset”, you get to contradict yourself and consider them legitimate as you make racial remarks in return, even to those who didn’t make the remarks. But, then why should we expect the logical fallacy of ‘Tu Quoque’ to be reproached by our governing officials when we have special-pleading government-backed policies like affirmative action where such governing officials can shamelessly fight racial or sexual discrimination by additionally making racial or sexual distinctions to discriminate who or who not to hire?

      Two things bother me about this story
      1: even if “Chief Moolah” can be construed as a racist comment. Only one person said it, yet John Wiley Price associated it to all the “White People” in the room.
      That sounds like a prejudice to me.
      2: then he called people “outside” usually that’s a threat of violence

      John Wiley Price has been an activist in Dallas County since the 60s. Gerrymandering of districts and the flight of families from the inner city of Dallas to the suburbs is the ONLY reason he was ever elected to office and it will be the reason he will continue to be re-elected. Being a victim of his blackness has always been his mantra. In my opinion, I don’t know of another politician in the entire country that epitomizes the term “racist” any more than John Wiley. His disdain for whites has always been apparent
