‘Allah, Liberty, and Love’: Gay Muslim Activist Launches Book in Malaysia Despite Government Pressure

Though one of her books is already banned in the country, a Canadian gay rights activist launched her new book on liberal Islam in Malaysia on Saturday, despite apparent government attempts to stop her.
The man in charge of Islamic affairs in the country, Jamil Khir Baharom, said that Islamic officials and the Home Ministry would not allow the author’s “roadshow” in the country following complaints, since both the book and Manji’s openly gay lifestyle are offensive to Muslims.
Urging Malaysian Muslims to be constantly on guard so as not to be influenced by her ideologies, he reiterated that all state religious departments had been instructed not to allow her to spread her worldview.
However, despite all that went wrong, the author seemingly pulled it off in good spirits. After two venues canceled on her, Irshad Manji wrote on Twitter: “Fantastic event in [Kuala Lumpur]! Great energy — except 4 cops who told latecomers that event is banned. Didn’t stop us. Congrats 2 all.”

The book, titled “Allah, Liberty, and Love” in English, is explained on her website: “[It] shows all of us how to reconcile faith and freedom in a world seething with repressive dogmas… This book is the ultimate guide to becoming a gutsy global citizen”.
But Manji wasn’t only having problems in Malaysia. According to AFP, the author also faced problems while touring Indonesia before she arrived. The Islamic Defenders Front group held such violent protests condemning her views on Islam and her homosexuality that the police ended up shutting down several of her events.
Protesters reportedly smashed windows, crockery, and computers while tearing up copies of her book and screaming “Where is Manji.” Her supporters shielded her, and she mercifully escaped with nothing more than a bruised wrist.
The co-founder of the Moral Courage Project at New York University, Manji says her mission is to teach students to “challenge political correctness, intellectual conformity and self-censorship — within their families, communities and organizations.”

God tells us that with the Qur’an, He brought “glory and honor” (Qur’an, 23;71) to human beings. He gives prosperity to everyone who practices the morality of Islam and follows the path that He has revealed in the Qur’an. And the only way for some women to escape all the anxieties that ignorant societies subject them to, and to gain the respect they deserve, is to be found in the Qur’an, revealed to our Prophet (pbuh) so that human beings could come out of darkness and enter into light.
In many verses of the Qur’an, God protects women and defends their rights, removes wrong ideas about women current in ignorant societies, and grants them a respected place in society. The Qur’an tells us that in the sight of God, the measure of a human being’s worth lies not in gender; but in the fear of God, in faith, moral perfection, sincerity towards God and piety (taqwa). All these verses are proofs of our Lord’s incomparable generosity toward women.
O Humanity! We created you from a male and female, and made you into peoples and tribes so that you might come to know each other. The noblest among you in Allah’s sight is the one of you who best performs his duty. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware. (Qur’an, 49:13)

Plus, one of the biggest tourist attraction in Jerusalem is Jesus Tomb. People line up every day for mile to see an empty tomb – while Mohammed is still in his grave. Jesus did not leave his grave so we can come in – he left his grave to destroy death, hell and the grave for all that believe.

I saw a lesbian female pastor Jo Hudson on TV in America talking to a straight pastor Robert Jeffress. They each claim to have the Holy Spirit but the Holy Spirit is leading her to believe she‘s right and it’s leading him to believe he’s right.
I’m told that among the white people in America there are some 1000 different sects/denominations of Christians. And among the black people there are some 3000 different sects/denominations. Each claiming to have the Holy Spirit, and each going in a different direction. Some say Jesus was God, some say he was not God, he is God’s begotten son. Some say you must be baptized in Jesus name, some say you have to baptize in the name of the father, son and holy spirit. Others say it’s not necessary to baptize at all. Some drink wine as the blood of Jesus, some say alcohol is forbidden. The Bible says the greatest miracle Jesus performed was turning water to wine.

A Muslim that converts to Christianity to find Jesus was a Muslim in name only. Islam believes in Jesus and the Qur’an mentions Jesus by name 5 times more than it does Prophet Muhammad. Islam is the only non Christian faith that makes it an article of its faith for its believers to believe in Jesus. No Muslim, is a Muslim if he does not believe in Jesus.

What we have hear is indeed a failure to communicate beause they have no, nor do not want to retain, knowlege of God in their lives. They are going where they go. They follow man, whom they can see and use their vain imaginations to make one another great until they finally reap the “whorl wind” from what they have done and failed to do in their lives according to God, the Father, the Creator, the great IAM, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. If they will not listen to God, they will not listen to us.

Muhammad did not die for the sins of the world. No Muslim has ever made the claim that he did, nor is Muhammad God. Jesus did not die for the sins of the world either. You Christians claim that he died, but you have no proof. Jesus called God Allah too:
Matthew 27:46: And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Eli or Elohim in Hebrew means God. In Arabic the word for God is Allah. Arab Christians call God Allah because in his language that is the word for God. You really need to wise up!

Aramaic is dialect of the Hebrew language, it’s not a totally different language. American English and British English are the same language but they have different dialects. Americans that live in the South have a different dialect than those that live in the North. A man from Boston and a man from New York might have a hard time understanding one another, but they still call God, God. Smarten up!

A marriage dowry is given by the groom to the bride for her own personal use, and she keeps her own family name rather than taking her husband’s. Both men and women are expected to dress in a way which is modest and dignified; the traditions of female dress found in some Muslim countries are often the expression of local customs. The Messenger of God said:
“The most perfect in faith amongst believers is he who is best in manner and kindest to his wife.”
It seems Christianity allows this too. I’ve given you proof from the Bible about Christianity, where’s your proof that Islam allows any of what you stated.

Many voters would rather vote for Palin than McCain. The over 40% to nearly 50% of people voting in 2008 were voting more for Palin than McCain. They realized that that if McCain was elected, then Palin would have a much, much better shot at President. Those who voted Republican are good with that.
Contrast that to Muslim counties. All i can think of is Benazir Bhutto. At the time i though maybe Islamic countries are finally allowing women rights. Alas, Benazir was more about clan power than about women being able to achieve in an Islamic society. Will there be another Benazir in the next 20 or 40 years in a Muslim country? Snowball chance in HeII.
America will elect a woman president before their is a woman Prime minister in a Muslim majority country. QED.

When a person has gaps in their work record (for pregnancy or whatever) they fall behind their peers in pay. If you took a subset of men & they had 1 or 2 periods where they were out of the work force for a periods of 3 or so years, they would not be paid as much as men who never ever left the work force.

Americans had the chance to vote for Hillary Rodham-Clinton and they chose Barack Obama. They had another chance with McCain/Palin and they chose Barack Obama. They had another chance with Michele Bachman for the GOP nomination and the voters didn’t want her either. Even if a female were to get the nomination in America, voters in the south will not vote for a female nor will they vote for a Mormon.

The first piece of legislation that Barack Obama signed into law was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. The Act states that a woman can sue for grievances if she is paid less than a man for doing the same job. Republicans voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act 100% including female Republicans. And you think Republicans are more sensitive to female issue than Democrats? Guess again.
I don’t support abortion, but I heard in American, in some states, if you’re a woman and you want to have an abortion you have to undergo some procedure called a ******* probe…wow!
