Alleged Photos of Cannibal Victim‘s ’Eaten’ Face Emerge: ‘Unbelievably Horrifying’

It’s rare that a story is so revolting and troubling that it instills a litany of emotions in those who learn its details. But the tragic and grotesque cannibalistic attack that occurred in Miami, Florida, over the Memorial Day Weekend is one of those tales — a saga that is nightmarish at its core. Police have officially identified the culprit as Rudy Eugene, a 31-year-old who has reportedly been arrested eight times prior to this incident unfolding.

The details surrounding the case are grisly, as the victim, a homeless man just identified as Ronald Poppo, remains in critical condition following the attack. According to multiple accounts and media reports, the only element that was left of the victim’s face following the defilement was his goatee. Now, alleged pictures have emerged of the 65-year-old’s face and the images are so disturbing, so sickening, that they are almost unbearable to look at.

“He had his face eaten down to his goatee. The forehead was just bone. No nose, no mouth,” explained Sgt. Armando Aguilar, president of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police. “In my opinion, he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Aguilar’s co-worker, Sgt. Javier Ortiz, who serves as vice-president of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police, added to the horrific description of what was found at the scene of the crime. Aside from citing the extreme amount of blood, he called it one of the “goriest scenes [he's] ever been to.”

“It was not only grotesque, it was just very sad, the amount of blood,” Ortiz said. “It was very sad to see what happened to this gentleman that had his face eaten.”

The image, above, shows Eugene’s past mugshot and an image of Poppo prior to the attack. New pictures that purport to show the victim’s face post-attack have been circulating the internet. Gawker, which called them “unbelievably horrifying,” is among the sites that published the photographs. While these are not yet substantiated, the details presented in the aforementioned descriptions (and the above picture) seem to match what is seen in these very graphic pictures.

Due to their disturbing nature, The Blaze has decided not to publish the images, but you can view them (caution: graphic) here and here. These horrific graphics match another similar picture that was posted on MediaTakeout.com.

While it is hard to imagine that something so grisly, so traumatic actually occurred, the scenario — regardless of the authenticity of these images — is an unfortunate reality.

      Notice how there is ZERO reference to the race of the people involved.       Do the doctors treating this guy actually believe they are demonstrating compassion by keeping him alive?
      His face is destroyed. What remained of his life is destroyed. Real compassion would be to give this man an injection that would give him a painless death.
      Keeping him alive in this case gives off foul whiffs of the memory of Joseph Mengele.

      No hate crime here since the victim was white. There has only been 3 known hate crime charges in history where the victim was white and the perp was black. However, there have been over 3,000 hate crime charges filed for when the victim was black and the perp was white.       @encinom You must not remember that Obama raised taxes on everyone with Obamacare and in the end it will result in less care for everyone. Also, households under 50k hardly pay any income taxes at all even though they may be in a 10-25% tax bracket, but someone that makes 200k is in a 33% tax bracket. For arguments sake let’s say there are no credits or deductions. Households making 50k would pay 7500 and someone making 200k would pay 56000. How is that fair? Taxes should be relatively the same % for everyone no matter what. If there are loopholes in taxes then we need to get rid of them, but statistics show that the top 10% pay 70% of income taxes while the bottom 50% pays 2.25%.     He was just eating a *******. Anyone for a Vanilla Wafer? All kidding aside, I really think this is some sick stuff. I will pray for this poor man. I am using this incident to teach my son (11 years) about the effects of drugs and too STAY FAR AWAY from using any kind of drugs. He is totally freaked out about the story. I haven’t shown him the pictures though.

    After viewing the photos I can’t believe this guy is still alive! There is no way that this poor man would want to live and this is where there should be a mercy killing. Obviously the attacker is crazy, but if this was a white man that did this to a black man it would be reported as a hate crime. I didn’t even know that this was a black guy that did this until I saw the photo online.

      I work in a major hospital and they can do some heroic things to save lives. Sometimes too heroic. I know we aren’t supposed to wish someone dead but seriously,,, how much treasure do we as a people contribute to keeping this poor victem alive? We have laws that allow innocent babies to be killed just because “mom” thinks they would be inconvient to raise but we will be paying a couple of million$ to sew on some flesh and care for what is left of that guy. I have a great life and I would really have to search my soul if I were in his shoes. I couldn’t do that to anyone who would have to care take me the rest of my life.
      Let’s just raise taxs on everyone and reduce retirement benefits to the people that have worked all their lives just to be able to pat ourselves on the back for being so careing.
      I realize this seems cold and uncareing but we don’t have the resources as a nation that we used to. Can you say death panel?

      You got it wrong, I’m not calling for the end of our judical system. I’m calling for the end of our criminal warehouse prison system. Look at it this way it a criminal continue to rape and rob the tax payers to the tune of 35,000-50,000 plus dollars a year per inmate. I say stop it,all life sentences become death sentences and we do it with a cheap bullet or rope not a million dollar poison. And we do it every hour on the hour until all are dead. We then start telling all who are in jail that the punishment for criminal behavior behind bars is death. If they want to become productive members of society they need to start it in jail. We then implement a program of public corperal punishment for lower level crimes. You steal the first time it’s 3 lashes with a bullwhip. Do it again it’s 10 do it agian we cut off a finger do it again we cut off a hand. Now there could exceptions to the rules if a man steals bread to feed his family it should looked differently then stealing say a T/V. But that’s where the jury system would decide the punishment.Another thing we should do is allow businesses the right to refuse customers if those costumers don’t act respectful in a business they should have the right to make them leave and be barred for life.

      I made the mistake of being curious and clicked to where the picture was. Now i’m sick and my hands are like ice.God-i wish i hadn’t clicked .Tell me the picture is a fake–it has to be a fake-he wouldn’t be alive if it were real.

      I hope a kind plastic surgeon donates his services to repair this gentleman’s face. The medical profession can do wonders now. Just visit a military hospital or VA hosptial.

      Interestingly, this appears to be a black-on-white crime. Why isn’t Pat Buchanan racing to the scene, getting in front of cameras and decrying this as a horrible racist act? Where is the outrage from the media? Oh, sorry, had that backwards – that would only happen if it appeared to be a white-on-black crime. Disregard. And by the way – I don’t see any reason to consider this a hate crime or to have racial overtones, I’m just disgusted by the way Sharpton/Jesse Jackson/CNN/MSNBC/etc. try to make something out of nothing any time they see an opening when it’s the other way around.

    I could not go and view the photos but I read this story over the weekend and all I could do is pray. I pray the victim can find comfort in knowing that people are praying for him and ask for God’s Mercy.
    Evil is gaining control and I demand God cast out this Evil.

    I am not going to look at the links .. thank you for not posting the photos and giving people the choice. btw .. Florida news outlets are reporting that this guy was on “bath salts” .. as I understand it they are an LSD .

      Cat- I read that too- that it was bath salts. And if I’m not mistaken, some of these *bath salts* have been sold in tobacco shops in innocuous packaging.

      I pray for this man and his healing.

      uh…. no. bath salts are neither lsd nor bath salts. they are merely sold as “bath salts” the effects are much more like PCP, they are just new chemical compounds that when smoked, one side affect raises the body temperature, and anyone whose had a serious fever knows how that affects consciousness Just like PCP and this causes users to strip down trying to cool off. i hate all these talking heads going on about LSD and Blah Blah Blah. Understand what you are talking about before you open your mouth. If people had the option to buy marijuana legally instead of skirting the law with bath salts maybe that man would still have a face. Humans will always seek intoxicant as we have for our entire existence, END PROHIBITION NOW mexico will thank us for putting the zetas out of business overnight.

      @ CATB : “ an LSD ” ? This particular compound of bath salts, when snorted up the nose, causes the user to under-go psychotic changes. The attacker has been described as very mild mannered and friendly; not the type of guy that would EAT YOUR FACE ! The attacker was closer to animal than human, hence the growling at the Police and unwillingness to follow verbal commands to stop advancing. The cops only shot the attacker 5 times ! I might not have been so kind. This is just one more reason to carry concealed. May God have mercy on the attacker and the homeless guy.
