Alleged U.S. Soldier‘s Website Boasts About Burning O’Reilly Books in Afghanistan

A box of donated Bill O’Reilly books* was allegedly burned and displayed on the Tumbler account of an alleged soldier in Afghanistan, Gawker reports. The account entitled “Everqueer” claims that the box of books was sent to soldiers at a remote outpost in Afghanistan, and burned on a Commander’s orders:
“Some jerk sent us two boxes of this awful book (SPOILER ALERT: George Washington – Patriot; George Soros – Pinhead) instead of anything soldiers at a remote outpost in Afghanistan might need, like, say, food or soap. Just burned the whole lot of them on my Commander’s orders.”
The Gawker article failed to include Everqueer’s followup blog post yesterday to the hot item story he posted two days ago, which notes that the alleged soldier did keep a copy of the book and the burning was done out of “military necessity:”
“I’ve read people’s squeamishness about setting books ablaze. I hear you. The motivation behind the order to burn them was not political. As mentioned in the original post, we are in an extraordinarily remote location. We don’t have a post office here, so sending them back wasn’t an option. Extra space is scarce and alternatives that a few mentioned, like recycling, are nonexistent. All waste is burned on the base and in town; wood and paper goes in that barrel. I was getting rid of a bunch of cardboard boxes and the books were in the burn pile. There were 20 of them. I saved one for the bookshelf. I’m aware of the historical implications of book-burning. I won’t say I didn’t take pleasure in removing a few copies of this bigoted twerp’s writings from circulation, but the reason for doing so was military necessity.”
While that blog post clears up that the alleged soldier was not burning an entire box of donated books solely for ideological objections, he does not hold back expressing his distaste for O’Reilly. The account posts several photos claiming to be within Afghanistan, but there is nothing on the account that confirms it belongs to a U.S. soldier.
O’Reilly supports Operation Shoebox, the Wounded Warrior Project, Families of Military Casualties, the Fisher House Foundation, among many other national and New York City-area charities.
*Editor’s update:
We‘ve updated to note that the alleged soldier’s original post did not say the books were sent by O’Reilly himself. Additionally, it’s worth pointing out that the reason we did the story was to note that when this story originally started making the rounds on the internet, it didn‘t note the alleged soldier’s follow-up response: mainly that the command to burn the books was not an ideological one, but rather a logistical one (to save space). That’s important because even though the book-burner says he doesn‘t agree with O’Reilly, the order and subsequent burning doesn’t prove a systemic front-line animosity of the Fox News host or widespread hatred in that unit’s ranks (as some on the left would like to boast about).

They couldn’t do it on the playground, they still could not manage it in the classrooms, they failed at the college level but these men (mostly) kept earning to serve their country under arms. Once there they realized they had to tackle the issues from within. Hence more women to combat positions, more gays, more multiculture to breaks up the White male dominance of the military. Ummm… Congress authorized both wars. True, no official Declaration of War was passed, per se, but there’s no doubt that Congress passed an authorization of hostilities and have repeatedly voted to continue funding the wars, which means it’s been repeatedly upheld as legal. Period.
The Constitutional requirement for the wars to be legal was and has been repeatedly met.

And who might that be? Please don’t say Ron Paul. Don’t make me retch again. I’ve had enough, having to hear Obama compare himself to our heroes.
Reagan’s “peace through strength” was summed up in his Strategic Defense Initiative, mockingly labeled “Star Wars” by the likes of you. The whole speech is on the following website, but in case you don’t want to be bothered, let me quote from it:
==> “As we pursue our goal of defensive technologies, we recognize that our allies rely upon our strategic offensive power to deter attacks against them. Their vital interests and ours are inextricably linked – their safety and ours are one. And no change in technology can or will alter that reality. We must and shall continue to honor our commitments.”

My favorite soldier‘s wife loved O’Reilly till he was in Iraq & O’Really went over with a tv crew, he was stationed at Centcom. & O’Really was doing tv interviews, supposedly all day, as time grew short, Battle Captain hunted fill ins so the remainder could be on tv, but they immediately came back, not enough were coming at a time, so he’d folded up his cameras etc, and told them to tell everyone he was getting something to eat before flying out. All were disgusted that he didn‘t at least bring his crew to the working soldiers after he’d promised all a chance to say hi on tv to families. The only consolation, none of them told him it wasn’t wise to eat just before corkscrewing out of Bagdad Airport. The flight crew radiod back he was very green around the gills for the trip.

“liberalism is going to win the day…it already has you just don’t know it.”
That is as true a statement as anything I have ever heard on the blaze.
Yes liberalism is winning, and getting stronger by the day. Homosexuals can no serve in the military. the fed gov got control of our schools in the 70s, and we went from top in the world and math and science to the 50% mark. Go ask a recent high school grad who the father of the US constitution is and check out the blank look on their face.
We have 46 million Americans on welfare. We rely on middle east oil, and refuse to drill our own, because we are more worried about snail darters.
the economy is in the tank, we have a community organizer as president, our military is about broke.
Yep, liberalisms is winning and getting stronger. We are inch by inch giving up personal freedom and going with the collective mindset (communism/ socialism).
the day is coming, when troops go door to door, taking the guns and Bibles.
Liberalism will win, and it will also be the death of a nation. The dominos will start falling soon, when they do, this nation will plunge into chaos to the like of which most cannot imagine.

This must be true because our soldiers are not being allowed to fight to win. Afghanistan poses no real threat to us as long as we bomb them occasionally to keep them in line.

Ron paul is one man against the many. I know you dont understand this but america is run by consensus not the rule of a dictator
——–
So which is it, “America is run by consensus“ or ”liberalism is going to win the day?” Make up your mind, wonderwoman. The only dictator wannabe in America is Obum, and we ain‘t taking it sitting down if he doesn’t up and leave.
Bush did a pretty good job of removing the Taliban govt. in 2001, but he failed to either seal off the Af-Pak border or, if unfeasible, to kill the top Taliban and al-Qaeda leaders before they slipped through the border into Pakistan. Hussein polarized Pakistan completely and that’s much worse, but your argument is a typical lib fallacy. “Nobody has won in Afghanistan before, therefore we can’t win in Afghanistan.” A better argument would be, “We sure ain’t gonna win the war with that pus-wuss-in-chief and his ROE.” I can concur on that.

It has little to do with military necessity and more to do with Jihad and our foolish submission to it.

I’ve never been high or drunk in my life. I’ve been a libertarian for over three decades and have met thousands of libertarians. Few are the hippies who just want to get stoned. For the vast majority, it is a philosophical issue of freedom. You own yourself, not the state! Therefore, you own your body and make the choices over it, not the state! You can use, control, and dispose of your body as you see fit because you are your own property.

I wasn’t coming down on Bill O, I was just saying that if I needed soap, that a book wouldn’t be my first priority on the “things I want” list. I know that Bill has many charities. I think though that his charities should be linked so that basic necessities should be prioritized over a box of all the same book.
@lorrian
That’s true. There’s no indication that Bill O sent them personally. With that being said, that doesn’t really have anything to do with the point I was trying to make.
@walkabout
It is a little suspicious. If the soldier was predisposed to dislike Bill O because of his political bent, it is a little more believable. I think though that a box of books may not be the most pragmatic supply. Why keep around a box of the same book when you could just keep one or two and then pass them to your other buddies at that outpost. In that case, why wouldn‘t you burn the ones that seemed to be superfluous and that you didn’t want to have to lug around.

Posted on October 19, 2011 at 5:17pmThank you for the link. Maybe send it to the white house and congress so they can beam with pride on their ‘peeps’ movement? Ahhh, to be a 99%er.

Posted on October 19, 2011 at 5:02pmIf for some reason that I CANNOT IMAGINE the box of books would have caused some kind of tactical (or any other kind) of problem: They never would have been delivered. In a combat theater fuel and supply trucks/helicopters are too scarce to use for hauling anything destined for the burn barrel.

Posted on October 19, 2011 at 5:05pmi.e. Gasoline or other fuel that has to be flown in can approach $1000.00 a gallon. Of course that depends on the distances involved.

Posted on October 19, 2011 at 5:01pmBurning books….now where have we heard about that before……
I for one would never burn a book. For example, I was given a copy of Bill Clinton’s book as a gift…did you know that book was the perfect height to replace the missing caster on my bedframe? Now that’s what I call a useful book!

Posted on October 19, 2011 at 5:07pmNever say never. I have burned pages from books to help warm c-rations and MRE’s when the heat tabs were gone.
