Allen West Delivers Stern Lesson on DADT Repeal: Isn’t the Military Rife With Rules?

Allen West was discriminated against while he was in the military. He was too short to join an elite infantry group. But, he says, he was okay with it because the military is rife with rules that serve a greater purpose, the insinuation being that there is a reason for the military‘s Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT) policy.
That’s the point West made during a Hill hearing yesterday on implementing the repeal of DADT. The hearing featured the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and during it West questioned almost every one of them about the certain standards each branch has that prima facia might seem discriminatory.
For example, he asked if the Army still has a minimum height requirement for an elite infantry group and if the Marines still require soldiers to pass physical fitness tests. The answer, “Yes.”
In the beginning of his comments, West summed up his position like this: “The military exists to win the nation’s wars and I think when we get to the point where we are starting to discuss about how the military conforms to accommodating individual behavior that’s what I get concerned with.”

That is untrue.
As DoD announced 28 January 2011 and later, sexual orientation now is a purely private matter. Sexual orientation is never asked, collected, used, or stored. Sexual orientation has no bearing on recruiting, enlistment/commission, training, assignment, evaluation, promotion, retention, discharge, or veteran benefits.
“WorkForIt” also believes — also incorrectly — that “Somebody is going to get hurt, plain and simple.”
That also is untrue.
All armed forces personnel must always treat all other personnel with respect, dignity, fairness, and equality, regardless of sexual orientation, religion, or personally held prejudices. The DADT repeal training courses held worldwide over the last few months, as well as the induction training courses going forward, identify personnel who can’t contain their prejudices, manage their behavior, or halt their violent impulses. Individuals who don’t succeed in an immediate course correction are being rejected (if new), or promptly discharged (if on duty).

You really believe that? I have first hand experience in a combat unit–and even though those “rules” are in place, soldiers would harass each other DAILY. If you honestly believe that you can take civilians of every race, creed, color, etc., and train them to be part of a killing unit that works as a team WITHOUT having any interpersonal issues you must be high.

Perhaps you should first check to see which of GODs laws to uphold under the New covenant in Christ Jesus. Would those be the ones written by the finger of GOD, or the ones by the hand of Moses? I am a sabbath keeping Christian, from sunset to sunset. The sabbath, rest and personal time with GOD, on the seventh day was instituted by GOD on the very first seventh day, a gift to Adam and Eve (all mankind) by our Father. No where in Scripture does it SPECIFICALLY say that the sabbath day was changed, it has not.

Shellfish (or more accurately, ‘everything in the waters that has not fins and scales’) were unclean or detestable to the Israelites, not an abomination. The dietary and clothing restrictions were part of the old covenant which was superseded by the new covenant with Jesus Christ, so of course Christians do not adhere to them. Slavery, like divorce, was tolerated because of mankind’s fallen condition and thus laws relating to the treatment of slaves and wives were established.
If you have read this far, I hope that you have not hardened your hearts and minds beyond all redemption. Please try to consider the possibility that God IS, and the Bible is His revelation. Pray that He will reveal Himself to you in His Word, and try reading the Bible for your edification instead of for the purpose of finding things you can ridicule if you take them out of context. Start with Genesis and then the Gospel of John. I pray that you will see the Light.

Anyway, there are three types of laws in the OT. First are the religious laws, governing how Man relates to God. Those are immutable.
Second are the social laws, which governed how society would maintain order and peace in the community, and establish a system of justice. These laws are subject to change, as history has shown.
Finally are the laws governing the individual, like keeping kosher. Shellfish can become toxic very quickly, and the law against eating shellfish was more to protect people than ‘restrict’ them. Who would know better than the Creator? Again, these can and have been changed.
On the matter of slavery, Hebrew slavery wasn’t on the Roman and later Western European models. It’s more like what we call indentured servitude, where a debtor sold himself for a period of time to his creditor to pay the debt.
People who want to talk about the Bible really need to get some religion first. That way, they suffer less mental trauma and actually can speak about it with some measure of coherence and knowledge.

Report Post »1- All those soft shelled critters probably were harvested at the mouths of rivers used to remove waste of all kinds from the settlements and therefore most likely absorbed more pollution so I suspect it was a good idea to avoid them.
2- I’ve never seen four legged fowls so I suspect they were probably some really foul mutation. Good advice to avoid them if ya ask me.
3-. Some more of those four footed flying creeping mutant things. Good idea not to BBQ them either, if I was wanting to play it safe.
4- Nothing different here. I’ve seen some Kansas centipedes that, believe me, are an abomination, brother.
5- May just be saying if you want to honor my existence don’t give me crap in return. You have life and eternal existence. Don’t demean the gift in return.
6- Don’t practice deception. It destroys the foundation of trust in all relationships. Not a bad idea.
7- Selling dogs or sex just don’t seem appropriate for a sanctuary of spirituality. Render that unto Caesar and the imperfect world. And pity the poor dogs and the unenlightened among us

Is that not the source of our present difficulties. We do not honor the principles of correct living but the only the handout. The car, the tv, the boat. Reflect and contemplate.
10- It seems apparent to me that which is valued most is sex, drugs and big screen TV. Sense and spirit -deadening desires. Not my choice of spiritualality enhancing endeavors. But I live in an imperfect world.
11- The wisdom seems relevant today. Perhaps you are just missing something?
BTW I am a raging agnostic. I think that atheism rests as much on faith as deism. Me? I just don’t know. And it may just be a lack in my constitution. But I don’t think Jesus wants to lop off my head because I am unable to recognize that which is offered. And I don’t remember Jesus dicussing the various rationalizations for war fare and the redistribution of the spoils of robbery and murder and rape. But there are people today who espouse those very same… Obominations. Look inside yourself. The darkness you envision most likely resides within in you.

Alan West with his many years of military leadership experience is qualified to be the POTUS and certainly the Commanding in Chief of all U S military forces. I don’t know the man personally but all my instincts tell me that he is an individual who loves America and is a true American Patriot, who dispises communisn and oppression and embraces capitalism and freedom as a true American.
I believe Alan West as the POTUS will uphold the Presidential oath to preserve, protect and defend the US Constitution, the same oath he proudly took and upheld as a US Army officer. When I look at an American patriot like Alan West I become “color blind”. Race is not an issue when an individual puts the best interest of his or her country before personal ambitions. There is a stunning diffrence between Barack Obama and Alan West in how they present themselves to the American people.

There are good reasons for certain rules – it has nothing to do with “willingness” to serve. Any living person can/are patriotic; however, that doesn’t mean he/she will be effective/helpful to the military and how they operate & what situations they are into. It’s not even about physical ability – there are other factors involved that can hinder, cause a defeat rather than a win.
Report Post »Re females, they have monthly cycles that they have no control of — not only do the hormones cause mood swings that can be very bad, they also cause bad cramps with many women and you never know. I can just see one in combat, shooting her rifle in combat, gets hit with bad cramps, which cause her to move/drop the rifle — maybe go off and shoot fellow soldiers – cause chaos & disruption, etc. My stance is if these people (gays, females) are patriotic, that means your love of the country comes first — not their “feelings” or if it’s “fair” nonsense. They sacrifice. The left doesn’t seem to get that. You can do OTHER things for your country other than military. I expect him to be a part of the next Administration… likely someday he will be the Administration. Many already parade him as a VP pick. We do not lack exceptional Americans who are willing and able to take up the lead… only the wisdom to spot them and the fortitude to trust them.
These days are well ragged by the rips and tears of a lazy past as bright and shinning wears, spun from constitutional soundness and American excellence begin the new parade, back to better days. These are days of stubborn dismay as many deeply entrenched slowly realize, tattered show, has been their whole show. This is a good day to spread kindness beyond the belly or the wardrobe. Great is our need to lay aside the falsehoods of blind and deceived fanaticism, replaced by patriotism rooted in well worked truth. Alan West is a worker… what better can be said of any of us. Where ever he goes, he becomes the better choice. I cannot help but think his firm insightfulness liberally spreads our best pride, our most earnest show. Doesn’t that work they other way around, as well? If you don’t like DADT then YOU can get out, and the military will be stronger without gays?

There is no amount of money in the world to pay our debt. Then when we try to cut we are demonized. So either way we lose, raise the ceiling wihtout MAJOR cuts and we get downgraded, don’t raise the ceiling and we default. Cut the spending and the have nots rise up in revolt, don’t cut the ceiling and the Patriots will rise up, can you not see we are already BANKRUPT? Today it is a bit different. I am not saying gays can’t serve, not the point, it is being openly gay that can have an affect on the straight person. Gays tend to throw themselves at ya, know why, they cannot procreate themselves, so they have to troll, just like you do here!

As someone who is currently serving, all I can say is… If you don’t like where the military is going, you can get out and you don’t have to come in. The military is going to be stronger because of the repeal.
As a retired Senior NCO (2005) I can tell you are somewhat of a newby. Probably a clerk somewhere pushing a pencil otherwise you wouldn’t be posting on here in the middle of the day. Unless the military is going to build separate barracks for the openly gay there will be problems. When females were first let in they sure didn’t put them in a room with a male. I have 2 sons WO‘2’s in CID and a daughter that just joined the Air Force. My sons tell me that the Command has stated that gays will be roomed with heterosexuals. This will do nothing but cause tensions and sooner or later there will be accidents that will not get investigated. I hope the gays are fully aware that the Military investigates it’s own and falls under UCMJ not civil law. The gays won’t get kicked out for being gay but there are so many articles in UCMJ just pick one.
Again with DADT if you didn‘t like it you didn’t have to join but don’t celebrate the destruction of a fine organization.

Just a month ago when Herman Cain was “new” to the mainstream scene, Everyone on here was saying “yeah, I’ll give him a listen, see what he has to say“ and now it seems he has ”our” full support! I lived near Atlanta for a LONG time and have listened to him not only on his own radio show, but as a fill-in for Neal Boortz (Do yourself a favor and check out Boortz‘ website if you can’t get his radio show. He embodies the truest definition of Libertarian and is a must-listen) and have wanted him at LEAST in an advisory role for the Executive, whomever that may be.

Listen/watch this man speak. 15 minute speaches, no notes, no teleprompters, and VERY rarely a mis-speak. That only happens when you truely believe what you are saying, and everything Herman Cain says is smart.
Col. Allen West is the same, but a little different. He is an Uber-Patriot, a fighter, a bulldawg. (I’m a UGA fan…sue me.) He also needs no or very little notes and no teleprompter to give a 15 minute speach and believes every word that he speaks. He is so self sacrificing that he chose to give up his OUTSTANDING military career for the lives and welfare of his troops by “ignoring the rules” as encinom infered. That kind of character you can’t buy. But POTUS or VP? Probably not. Not just yet anyway. My “dream cabinet” has him at either SECDEF or Speaker of the House….though not in that order. Boehner has shown himself to be a puppet after this latest budget battle, and that really breaks my heart. I thought he was better than that. Col. West however, has a sack of steel and would probably be THE MOST effective at this time serving as Speaker. And anyway, he’s be 2nd in line for succession.
You have to remember, he only recently left the military as a career man, and must get used to the schism of government before he can just go into the white house. I think he understands this as well. Leadership is an important trait to have, but you can’t be a Boy Scout leader and expect to effectively run a Girl Scout troop without at least sitting in on a few meetings.

First off, I would think out of all the branches the Air Force would be the most accepting of gays. (Marine here, had to go there) Two, If I have a gay roommate I say “Look, I don’t swing that way. I don’t care if you do, but I don’t and never will.” If he tries to do anything or I feel harassed then I tell someone. If they don’t do anything I go higher. It‘s not going to hurt the military unless people flip about about it and can’t get past a co-servicemember being gay. But that’s their problem then.

I never understood why that would cause moral problems, except in “homophobes” (and GOD how i hate that word). As long as you can follow orders, have discipline, hit your target and save my azz (no pun intended) then Really don’t care about your sexuality, only that you are an effective Marine on the field of battle.
I am so hetero that I don’t even want dudes in my porn, but it baffles me why one man can’t disuade a gay advancement effectively without being combative. And being a Marine, the “gay” would probably not try to hit on you anyway.

Of course, most large countries in the world have armies in the world allow gays to serve openly, including China, Israel, Russia, the UK and so on.

I agree with everything that you said and you hit the nail on the head when you said that our military is “ in the business to win wars and not to accomodate individual behaviour ”. I enlisted in the US Marine Corp in 1954 at the age of 15, and served until 1966 with 3 combat tours in Vietnam. During that period my original company deployed with 268 officers and men but was widdled down to only 17 survivors. The 251 Marines that gave their lives in miliatry service had a code we all lived and died for, GOD, COUNTRY, UNIT, CORPS. The DADT rule should be remain in force so that inividual bahavior don’t receive priorty over individual determination to live by military rregulation and the USMC code of honor !

They just think that somehow economic rules don’t apply to USA. Even my wife resists my efforts to plan for bad times, but I’m making inroads. I pray I’m wrong about what is coming. I hope it doesnt happen before the next election. I think if a truly bold plan were implemented, it would prevent the total collapse. I would even be willing to see an increase in taxes if the plan FIRST cut govt in half and put an end to The Fed as we know it.

I think we will see what is going to happen about mid-June, but definately by mid-July. When the next earnings season is upon us – it will be telling. Then there is oil price increases, food price increases that will bring STAGFLATION. I cannot emplore people enough to just prepare for THAT! Much less the left who seems hell bent on taking down our Capitalistic system (see Saul Alynski and Cloward & Piven, Vann Jones, NBPP and the rest). I scares me deep down that not enough people will prepare, and they will come for my stuff – then I will have to do unimaginable things! THAT is why I try to convince people in my community, my family and my friends to get ready for ANYTHING. I am going to try and call ya, not sure if I have the right number though. I hope you are right and I am wrong, but that splits hairs I guess, LOL. In Aug of 2008, I called the DOW 6000 by Q1 2009, it went to 6500 points, hmmmm, you know what my next call is by Q3 is????? 1500-2500 points….and you are absolutely, most Americans cannot fathom or believe the USA can go down – believe it or perish! My life has been a living hell, I grew up with an alcoholic and bi-sexual father, and I have suppressed memories of his abuse. I also spend many years in Jamaica, and a civil war broke out and I had to flee the island for my life…at 13 years old, that left an imprint on me BIG TIME. You see the same things that happened there, are happening here, to a tee. I recommend going to youtube and searching for ‘Jamaica in the 1970’s’ to watch a 3 part series. A silver tongued devil named Mike Manley brought Socialized Democracy that and ruined that nation, and civil war broke out. America bailed them out, but who is bailing us out?

She has rolled her eyes as I have bought extra food, extra gas, a generator, ammunition, gold, silver and survival and hunting gear. Since I have two young boys, I pray every day that I am wrong and that they will have a life like the one I have enjoyed…but I fear they will not.

I too, have two wonderful young children in their teens, straight A students and atheletes, but it rips my heart out to think they may miss out on the American dream, it just kills me! My wife is starting to come around, but has a ways to go yet. But you also, and Oz, and anyone else who is fighting the good fight with their wives, keep your chin up, it is always darkest before the dawn!

Like Rep West said, as military officers wer are trained to salute and follow orders even if we disagree. I wouold love to hear what these generals are honestly saying about this new poilicy amongst themselves. As West says, rules are rules. We don’t have to like them we only have to follow them. It is great watching a former lower ranking officer dress don those foru stars. At least he’s been there unlike leftest libs like “Please call me Senator” Boxer. If West runs, he has my vote.

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 2:20amBTW… There is an ad going in the largest newspaper in Allen Wests district in Florida starting next Monday and running for the entire week.
The ad basically says… THE WORLD NEEDS A LEADER! Then it goes on to ask the voters of his district if we can borrow him for 8 years to help get this country back on the path of greatness. And by the end of the month there will be Draft Allen West bumper stickers and signs available. I’ll keep you posted when they are available.

That is sort of the point I ws trying to make. Lots of comments here talk about nominatng Alan West or Herman Cain because they are black. I think we nominate the best person not the best black person just becaiuse Obama is black (half). Why are we accpting the Dumbocrats racial quota? There is no rule saying the President has to be a person of colored.

But there is no way in hell being gay changes your physical prowess, nor does even being open about your homosexuality change anything about how we win a war. West needed to stay off this subject.

Report Post »Nothing touched by PC is better for it. That is everything done under the guise of Political Correctness is counter productive on many levels. More to the point the question Lt.Col. West brought up is of great concern to the entire military and the country it defends. If private gay,or Lt. bi does something that would in cases involving straight soldiers have them brought before hearing or discharged will special considerartion to what community mighty be offended be considered. Much like the case of a NOW multiple murdering terrorist who sent up red flags that were ignored for fear of upsetting the islamic community in and out of the military. And if fear of being slander or attacked politically would influence officers decisions when dealing with gay soldiers. Then there’s no place for gays in the military.

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 11:45pm@ENCINOM: AT least “RET.” Col. West was an honest man and admitted his behavior was wrong by the rules of war but when you are in war those are the first things that are generally broken when it is for the safety of your soldiers.
I am not sure that a similar thing could be said of those that choose to seek pleasure with the same gender. And if I had to make that decision I would create a special division and then attach them to the Marine Corps as the Initial First Deployment Force.
