Allen West: Liberal Progressive Agenda is ‘Antithesis of Who We Are as a Nation’

Wise words from Congressman-elect Allen West, R-Fla.:

The soon-to-be freshman member of Congress is a tea party favorite, a group FNC’s Chris Wallace says could really shake up Washington:

I really like this guy, and to think I’m considered a tea bagging, gun carrying, bible toting redneck raciest. Or maybe that’s just if I disagree with a liberal that happens to be a black man. So I wonder what it makes this guy if he has the same views as a white redneck conservative like myself? I bet Al Sharpton could tell us…It‘s always amusing when the liberals make up crap and call people names when they can’t win a argument or someone disagrees with their view.

That;s because most of them are not engaged. It will take people like West, people inside their community, to engage them and show them how the progressives are holding them down with these entitlements and making serfs out of them. To be blunt, whitey cannot do it. They see us as big business and the money horders. They need people inside their community to show them that we stand for the things that they believe in. Equality, morality, and freedom from the government.

It’s changing Ironman, as more blacks see other well respected, well educated and well spoken blacks in leadership positions. Many blacks are conservative and believe in God. It‘s just that the umbilical cord to the Democratic party hasn’t been cut yet. It will take time, and it will take door to door, one on one, meetings to reach out with patience, logic and the true Constitution.

I think he is just brainwashed into the “big corporations have all the money and are holding everyone else down” nonsense. Instead of antagonizing this person I see it as the place to start winning our country back. Many of these people are kids and this is what they have learned since the 1990′s in the schools and universities. They think they have this inside track on knowledge or something, that they understand these principles and us old farts are just stupid. We need to calmly and patiently show them why they are wrong…With love…That is the only way we will ever fix this mess. It is really in their hands, in the hands of the youth of today. They will steer America in the direction they think she should go. It is up to us to make them understand why the founders were right and why America has so greatly succeeded until now.

Thomas Paine wanted a guaranteed minimum income and the redistribution of wealth from wealthy land-owners to the working poor and establish a guaranteed pension for all citizens started at age 50.

Thomas Jefferson disliked the very concept of corporations, saying, “I hope we shall take warning from the example [of British corporations] and crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country.”

Alexander Hamilton opposed free trade as being unfair to certain parties, and promoted protectionism and economic government intervention instead.

They weren’t “socialists” in name because the philosophy hadn’t yet arisen, but they certainly held some highly egalitarian ideas. Especially Paine, that guy was totally a radical leftist, even by today’s standards.

I wonder if you may be misrepresenting their actual positions on the basis of remarks taken out of context? It seems to be a trend lately. In any case, it matters not. The founding fathers debated and agreed on the principles that founded this country. It is those principles that we defend. It is those principles that made this country what it is and those principles that are currently under attack.

You can try to turn Jesus Christ into a socialist, it is not hard. But it totally misrepresents everything He stood for. You can not take from one and give to another. Christ never supported that and I do not believe Jefferson, Pain, or Hamilton did either. That is socialism and that is theft. That was not the way this country was intended to work.

Mmm, perhaps. Obviously I’ve never met any of the individuals, and Jefferson and Hamilton also took odd stances on other positions (Jefferson, for example, opposed a central bank, women in politics, and the carrying of debt.)

Thomas Paine, however – I stand by my statements on him much more firmly. That guy was an out-and-out radical, and there’s not much question on the matter. He wrote an entire book on his views supporting wealth redistribution he entitled “Agrarian Justice.” He wrote another attacking Christianity and promoting freethinking. There’s little question as to where the “Father of the American Revolution” stood politically.

Just as an interesting final note – the term “left-wing” (and right-wing, actually) originates from the early days before the French Revolution, when the loyal monarchists and nobility sat to the right of the president’s chair, and the American Revolution-admiring radical deputies sat to the left. Of course, back then “right” simply meant pro-monarchist and “left” meant pro-republic, and had little to do with culture and economics, two areas that are also defined by the left-right paradigm today. Still, it did the service of defining rightist politics as those defending the status quo social order and hierarchies, and leftist politics as those opposing.

I’m not going to take the time to look up each of the snippets that you cited about a particular Founder. They may be true and they may not, I don’t know. I do know that almost everyone of the drafters of the Constitution had personal and/or state theories, philosophies and desires that were put aside in favor of unity in the Constitution. A thorough reading of the various Federalist Papers will easily show that. I choose to concentrate on that which they chose to commit to writing, and that the states that became the United States chose to ratify. The signing and ratification closed and nullified any prior debate and/or disagreement.

The founding fathers opinions and perspectives grew and evolved to produce the founding documents far and above their own considerations. The final product is what is most important and while adding to the understanding of how they arrived at their conclusions, the statements they’ve made must not be taken out of that ultimate context.

      @Antifa
You are both right and wrong. Tom Paine was extremely radical, and he eventually lost favor with early Americans, especially after his verbal attacks on George Washington. His pamphlets Common Sense and The American Crisis struck chords of passion for independence and gave Americans some of our best quotes. His own personal life was disgustingly one big failure.
As far as “socialism” not existing at that time, nothing could be further from the truth! So was the term “redistribution” of wealth. And, regardless of who taught you your views or where you have read them, you need to do some additional research. “The Utopian schemes of re-distribution of the wealth…are as visionary and impractical as those which vest all property in the Crown.” (Samuel Adams, an original tea partier.)
Yes, Thomas Jefferson was at odds with Hamilton (a Federalist), and opposed a central bank. Do you know his reasons? Read what he had to say.
As far as their views on the British corporations, there again, read a little farther. It has more to do with aristocracy than capitalism, which they ardently favored. “A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.” You evidently have swallowed hook, line, and sinker the progressive teachings. Were our founding fathers radicals? Absolutely, but in favor of limited government! No way would they support socialism, which they knew and understood quite well.
“The government is best which governs least.” Thomas Paine
“The greatest tyrannies are always perpetuated in the name of the noblest causes.” Thomas Paine (Think: Obamacare, Medicare, etc., etc.)
“Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.” Benjamin Franklin (Think TSA)
“It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood.” James Madison (Think Obamacare)
“Charity is no part of the legislative duty of government.” James Madison (Think all the entitlement programs we have today.)
Many more quotes, that would discount everything you could possibly say in regards to their being “radical socialists.” They were NOT socialists and would turn over in their graves at being labeled as such!

Nice post. Thanks for actually reading the source material, and for giving us back Thomas Paine. I might note, though, that Antifa never referred to the founders as “radical Socialists.” I’ll also add that liberals have a legitimate claim to Abigail if not John Adams (see “big fish v. small fish”) and at least half of Jefferson and all of Madison. And Washington sided with Hamilton.

Speaking for myself, I have read much of the founding father’s own words thanks to prodding from Glenn Beck. I will admit that the only thing I have read from pain though is Common Sense.

But that is all a moot point. As I first mention, and as has been brought up many times since, this country was built on much more than a single man’s opinions and vision. It seems like only the progressives have trouble “interpreting” the Constitution, the rest of us simply read it and understand it for what it says.

The part I do not get is why anyone besides a politician in power would be on the progressive side? Well…Maybe if I was living on entitlements I might also support the agenda…But how can anyone with a shred of common sense want to stray from what the founding fathers originally intended for this country?

These revisionists are beautiful. Let’s boil down all of our founding documents into a single statement that even the dullest, mouth-breathing Marxist can understand:

With the exceptions of providing a common defense and keeping the peace (as opposed to law enforcement) the government shall not be granted powers that you yourself do not have.

I cannot take another person’s property without a just claim and neither can the government. Of course now that we have so totally perverted property rights, nobody sees this as the fundamental behind the phrase “pursuit of happiness.”

Hey Antifa. Have you noticed Thomas Payne never held a public office! You’re right, in a sense (Common Sense), when you say Thomas Payne is a radical. Wonder if that explains why he never make much of a splash in serving as a leader and representative of “We the People” … good for inciting only.

As a refutation of the idea that the Founders were socialists, consider that many of them were admirers of Adam Smith’s ideas of economics.

Also, Jefferson said in his first inaugural address something like “a government that prevents people from injuring one another, but leaves them otherwise free to regulate their own affairs, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned–this is the sum of good government.”

      13th generation.

Great point. don’t try to interpret the words of the founding fathers. Just let them be. Start with the Constitution and tell the lefties that sit on the supreme court to stop twisting the meanings of such simple things like “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

You see, Mr. Wizard, while your family may have fought for this country, so have ours. And so have some of us. Probably not you. you seem to be running from the real fight and leveling weak attacks on the good people of the Blaze. That’s fine. Leftist sites suck and so do most of the comments. But you come here, don’t ya? Don’t be scared to read my first paragraph again and let that sink in before you start your barney frank blabbering.

THE REPUBLIC IS IN CRISIS :
A champion of freedom, reminiscent of George Washington, will be necessary for the Republic to survive. This new leader must fulfill Ayn Rand’s definition of a “Radical for Capitalism” and will have to be a charismatic speaker to Garner the popular support required to save the Republic. At this time there’s no one on the national scene that fulfills these specifications.

Two personalities that show promise are Herman Cain and Marco Rubio. Both of these men are excellent communicators but they have yet to earn extensive public support or demonstrate that they are truly “Radicals for Capitalism”. Only time will tell if either of these men has the philosophy and the charisma to save the Republic. Perhaps someone, unrecognized today, will rise to the occasion.

Who do you think has the capacity to restore the Republic? Post your suggestions in the comments. http://commonsense21c.com/

I think that the Tea Party Freshmen are planning on coming in ready to WORK HARD to get things turned around. Allen West is a good example of this. With a new Tea Party Caucus led by Michele Bachman, I believe that we are going to see sparks fly. Hopefully they will keep the pressure on the RINOs in office. We need to give them all the support we can.

Now that we’ve elected them, we need to SUPPORT THEM! ALL of us should put these new Tea Party candidates’ office numbers on our speed dial and be ready to applaud or chastise as needed. Our job is just beginning, too!

Now there is a leader worth following.
      Powell vs Allen
Powell was by his own admission in his book a ticket puncher. An officer that looked to get assignments simply because the filled in a blank on his resume. When I read his comments that he hated jumping I lost most respect for him.
Allen looked at the danger to his troops then made the decision that they were more important than his own career.

Mr.Alan West is a man of principle-and a True Leader. I have no doubt that the enemy knows who he is and will stop at nothing to isolate, diminish, or discredit him whenever they have opportunity. Look at how they treated Justice Clarence Thomas. No doubt Mr.West can survive and can withstand any attack -but unless we the People are willing to follow Unless we present an Army of citizens who will defend the right man Mr.Alan West. then the enemy will make certain he is destroyed and we are punished severely for ever trusting in someone the Democratic Party Plantation has not annointed.

Please, GWB added 4 trillion too the national debt. medicare part d. Homeland security doubled the size of government. The bailout of the car industry {which i might add has gone back to public trading and will be back on its own with loans paid off in 2 years} was needed. The supply chain of jobs that GM that would have been hundred of thousands of more jobs lost. The bailout of the banks that started under GWB and continued by BO. has been almost paid back with a profit says the CBO. And as for health care.. its not a government take over… maybe the mandate is over reach by the federal government.. but it adds 30 million people to private insurance companies. Your telling me no pre-conditions for insurance and keeping your kids on health care thru college are bad things. or Recision or dumping sick people of they’re health insurance is also bad. The “recovery” stimulus bill saved teachers, fire fighters and policemans jobs in the states. which if not done with the states bankrupted would have layed them off. The governments first job is general wellfare of the people. and safety of the nation. That includes teachers, fire fighters, and police. I am one person who likes these services and am willing to pay for them. as well as military, but i will not sacrifice my freedom so presidents including BO spending trillions on wars we dont need when we could pay for SS,medicare, medicaid, and health care for all with that money!!!!!
