Florida Republican Allen West is not known as one to mince words.  Speaking with Neil Cavuto Saturday, the congressman slammed President Obama’s economic policies, eventually concluding that Americans are being served a “crap sandwich” with a smile.

Beginning with a dissection of American tax policy and how proposed tax increases are counterproductive, West explained:  “When you look at what you will get if you just increase the taxes on those top two brackets, it’s only about $85 billion per year.  And with the spending frenzy that you well know [we] have in Washington, D.C.– that only funds the government for about ten days.”

The congressman continued, discussing Obama’s high “likability” ratings: “Let’s be very honest, and let’s put it in some military vernacular.  If you’re feeding a person a crap sandwich with a smile, it’s still a crap sandwich, and that’s what you see coming from President Obama.”

“He’s fed America just a load of you-know-what, and it has not done anything for this country but increasing our unemployment, increasing Americans in poverty, increasing the food stamp rolls, and we’re heading in the wrong direction.”

West added: “When you look at the budget that he produces that talks about a ‘balanced approach,’ raising $1.9 trillion in new taxes, [it] never balances.  As a matter of fact, all it goes to is a 53% growth of the federal government, so I think it is very important that we win the ‘image war,‘ there’s no doubt about that.”

“The personality, the persona, you have to define yourself, but you also have to stay on message,” West cautioned, “because the American people are suffering under these failed economic policies.”

ThinkProgress commenters are predictably furious, insulting the congressman as a “sell-out“ and an ”imbecile,” while commenters on more conservative sites seemed to take the interview with a dash of humor.

One woman said she “burst out laughing” at the unexpected comparison, while others simply praised his calm, matter-of-fact explanations.

    The policies of socialism are theft of liberty at gun point. The very idea that one mans labor belongs to another through redistribuituve taxation is anathama to the central premise of our constitution. The policy of handing one mans labor to an other man is a form of government run slavery. It is theft pure and simple. Mr, West has correctly and succiently described socialism it looks good from the outside but it taste like crap when you are forced to eat it.

      I have the utmost respect for Allen West. He speaks the truth and does not show an ounce of racism and discourages it at every chance he gets. He is bright, intelligent and down to earth. I wish more people would listen to him.

      I respect anyone that does not mince words so I respect Alan West. I disagreed when he spoke to quicky after the Zimmerman/Martin case broke in the media since as a Colonal in the military for many years he should have known better then to criticize Zimmerman based soley on the shyte the media was shoveling, but I think he learned his lesson now that he is getting a taste of the bias media. As far as him being bashed by the media as an Uncle Tom because of his conservative views, I hope he realizes that his detractors are outnumbered by his allies. Colonel West should point out one thing, and that is he is not a Communist radical from the ghetto like Obama is, he is merely a candidate that is looking out for his constituents and his consevative views are what his constiuents like.

      Point 1: how can you start a war if the war’s already started?

    He speaks a lot like my late husband. There are a lot of great sayings from the military passed aroujnd. Always has made me smile, especially when he had to clean them up to use at home. Allan West is a good man, hope Romney puts him to work, the military still needs him.

    Allen West is a Hero. His actions insured the safety of his troops and because of ignorant liberal polciies he received an artical 15: he did not receive a court martial. The man save many American lives through his interrogations of an enemy soldier. Shame on those who have never been on the battlefield making policy and or judgement of those that stand in harms way.

      It’s really hard to nail down the “most” which requires a single item, so…this make take several posts but he has ure delivered on the Hope and Change – I’m hoping for a change. As to his changes:
      First President to preside over a cut to the credit rating of the United States government. First President to spend a trillion dollars on ‘shovel-ready’ jobs – and later admit there was no such thing as ‘shovel-ready’ jobs. First President to abrogate bankruptcy law to turn over control of companies to his union supporters. First President to demand a company hand over $20 billion to one of his political appointees. First President to hide his medical, educational, and travel records. First President to have a social security number from a state he’s never lived in. First President to violate the War Powers Act. First President to orchestrate the sale of murder weapons to Mexican drug cartels. First President to publicly bow to Americas enemies while refusing to salute the US flag. First President to be held in contempt of court for illegally obstructing oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. First President to defy a federal judge‘s court order to cease implementing the ’Health Care Reform’ law. First President to bypass Congress and implement the DREAM Act through executive fiat. First President to encourage racial discrimination and intimidation at polling places.

      But I think the thing that most disgusts me with this man is that he is breathing American air.

      MARYBETHELIZABETH, You are telling a huge lie yet again. West was not taken to court martial. He did receive non judicial punishment in the form of an Article 15. And, he paid a fine, continued to serve and retired. Okay, I guess that I can give you credit for just knowing you ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to the military, but many of you need to start doing some simple research when it comes to saying things like this here. There are more than plenty of active duty, former, and retired military personnel here.

      As to West’s court martial: The charges were ultimately referred to an Article 15 proceeding rather than court-martial/ As to his accusation of democrats (traitors) in congress being communists, the Socialist Party of America Released The Names of 70 Democrat Members Of Congress Who Are Members Of Their Caucus. Oh No! Libs can‘t tell the truth because the truth hurts them way to much plus they’re currently in panick mode.       I am with you completely about the NDAA and The Patriot Act included. Romney is for both plus he is a criminal just like Obama. I just do not get how people are so easily duped. The RNC along with the Romney campaign committed several federal crimes during the primary, Romney accepted donations from foreigners, which actually disqualifies him to be President, strong armed delegates (must have taken lessons from Obama), tried to change the standing 5 plurality of states rules at the last minute to 10, and then when that did not work, they broke rules to disqualify Paul delegates duly elected by the voters. Now they voted and passed a new rule to give Romney dictator style powers at the convention in order to keep Tea Party initiatives at bay. And everyone says Obama wants to be a dictator, well this shows they are both the same.

      @Raging-Waters, The NDAA shouldn’t be a left vs. right issue. Remember the left and right overwhelmingly supported it. It’s an American issue. I’d actually like to see the left and right of the electorate take a break from our meaningless differences and focus on the police state this time around. I don‘t think either side is happy that Washington decided to break the law and say it’s ok for the president to kill Americans, or make them disappear without due process based solely on his suspicions. It is the most dangerous piece of legislation I’ve ever seen. I can not believe it is such a non issue for the media and the electorate. I think people are in denial that it is what it is. “Surely this can’t be in America” Well it is. Anyone that supports it is a traitor or suffering from serious denial, and that appears to be A LOT of people. I wish I could convince more people that this is an eliminating issue for any person running for office. Anyone that casts their vote for a politician that supports it is a fool. Sorry to be so blunt, but that’s just how I see it.

I mean really we’re back to where we came from before the Magna Carta with that law. It‘s absurd we’re not demanding it be repealed immediately. It is against everything a free society stands for. There is absolutely no reasonable excuse for it other than to silence the voice of dissidents.

      You stated: I am with you completely about the NDAA and The Patriot Act included. Romney is for both plus he is a criminal just like Obama. I just do not get how people are so easily duped.

      They got duped because the Republican bureaucrats wanted Romeny as their candidate and manipulated the primaries so that he got the needed delegates. It was not the left so much as it was the Republican bureaucrats that brought up a lot of the negatives about all the other candidates in order to discredit them. Any one of the other candidates would have been better than Romney in my opinion.

      Every time one of the other candidates won a state or looked like they were close to winning a state their smear machine went into high gear in order to smear the other people. Politics at its worst. Or in other words politics as usual. We will never be able to select our own candidate because the bureaucrats make sure that their person is always nominated.

      We the People need to stand up and say enough is enough and make sure that more people like Allen West are elected to both the House and Senate. We need people who tells it like it is instead of always using political speech, which is to tell the people what they want to hear but usually do the opposite (or what their handlers tell them to do).

      Actually the Cold War and trying to keep up with Reagan’s unbridled spending is what really ended it for Russia.
