Alvin Greene, the unemployed military vet who won the Democratic nomination and recently challenged U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., has reportedly filed to run for South Carolina’s state house. The Hill reports:
Greene, who lost to Demint by over 30 percentage points, paid the $165 entry fee five minutes after the filing period opened on Christmas Eve to run in a special election to replace the late state Rep. Cathy Harvin (D), according to the Associated Press.
His surprise primary victory over presumptive nominee Vic Rawls prompted calls from Democrats to investigate the election results, but he remained on the ticket through the general election.
During the midst of the campaign in August, Greene was indicted by a South Carolina jury for allegedly showing pornography to a college student. He declined to drop out of the race and one of his first campaign speeches lasted a mere 23 seconds.
Greene got into trouble again when a companion of his got into a restaurant altercation with officials from a local Democratic group, resulting in the ejection of Greene and his associates.
The candidate was also known for more lighthearted moments, such as his suggestion that manufacturing action figures of himself could create jobs.
A primary for the state House race will be held Feb. 15 and the special election will take place on Apr. 5.

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 3:52pmIf this Greene dude hangs around the White House enough, with or without a pass, Obama just might make him another one of his czars. Couldn‘t be any worse than what is in there now and might even be better since he isn’t a commie!

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 3:11pm@HughJidette – the people in Congress do not need to know how to read – they just need to know that the party backs it the party gets it’s vote. How many of the congressman admitted/said they had not read the “healthcare” bill? No, you don’t need to read – just do what you are told. Except for Obama – he has to be able to read the teleprompter

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 8:27amIf he makes it through the primary he will win. Harvin died this month after winning a special election in 2006 when her husband died in office. Clarendon County is 63% democrat in a red state. You could paint a rock blue, call it liberal, and it would get votes.

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 6:36amThis dolt garnered approx 340,000 votes in the November general election.Speaks volumns as to the sophistication of the voter base in my sadly under educated and ill informed state of S.C.but on the other hand,it’s a generally accepted fact that blacks will vote for blacks without regard to qualifications. In fact,it appears that blacks would vote for a sweet potato as long as it was black. The largest percentage of Greene’s 340,00 votes was cast by blacks but a goodly number of his votes came from those who vote a straight party ticket,no matter what. I expect that Greene will pull a good number votes in his bid for the state rep seat which he has filed for.Go Alvin,S.C. needs another idiot in the state house!!!!

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 9:07amIMO, I think a lot of voters don’t take the exercise seriously. They vote a straight party ticket most of the time. They don’t really care if their candidate is an idiot or not. He is a warm body count, to up their numbers. Apparently, you don’t even have to know how to read very well to vote in Congress.
This is possibly how he got so many votes. If people voted for him on purpose, South Carolina is in big trouble.

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 5:14amI’m disgusted and tired of this joke. Again I will say that there should be people along the process to get Greene to understand that he is making a fool of himself. Those people should be ashamed of themselves for not protecting someone of diminished capacity.
Report Post »Those who exploit him for a news story should be ashamed as well.

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 9:07amHe brought this on himself. Yes, someone should tell him that he looks foolish, but after all he is a Democrat, and that honor should fall on the leaders of the Democratic Party of SC. Apparently they don’t have the will, or think he will garner enough of the black vote. It’s a sad day when someone of his ilk could actually make it on the ballot. I think this says more about the people that voted for him than him.

Report Post »Theres one thing that puts Alvin Green higher up the ladder than most of our elected people ,he did have the courage to serve in the Military.Thats more than Obama did. That makes Green a better American as far as iam concerned.
HughJidette
Posted on December 28, 2010 at 12:23amAlvin Greene is just as qualified, if not more so, than Obama, because of his military experience. His parents were both U.S. citizens. His father was a business owner and heavy into the Dem Party.
Alvin has a BS Degree from University of South Carolina in Political Science, that he received in 2000. He was in the Army, Air Force, and the Army National Guard. He received the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the Korea Defense Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Unbelievable to me was the fact that he served in an Intelligence position<<<<<>>>>During Greene’s time in the Air Force he received numerous poor evaluations from his superiors. The evaluations stated Greene was an ineffective leader who lacked organization and was unable to express thoughts clearly. Greene received an honorable but involuntary discharge from the Army in 2009 after a 13-year career and has been unemployed since.<<<(Text obtained from Wikipedia, and online search.)
The negative evaluations that Greene received also fit Obama, if you take away his telepromptor. IMO, Greene is just as qualified as Obama, and that isn't saying much.

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 6:09amNo offense to your support of Mr. Greene, Hugh, but be sure the “achievements” you certify him as having earned are really worth anything. For example, The Global War on Terrorism Medal: anybody in the service gets one for serving any part of any day… go to the first day of boot camp and slip on your panties, here’s your GWOT. Same for Korean Defense Service Medal…. it means he completed the airplane ride – most likely on Korean Air, NOT on a C-141 or anything military or exotic – to Korea. National Defense Service Medal is called the Firewatch Ribbon by those who know… everybody gets one just for showing up on any part of any day while it’s being awarded (and in this case, it has been awarded for over 10 years at this last stint.).
Disclaimer: Mr. Greene’s high acheivements are from you sourced from Wikipedia. The military award info is from me. I know it because I was there and I lived it. As far as his educational credentials, did his alma mater not have a public speaking requirement? How about just plain old English, then? Pathetic… perhaps a nice guy, but a pathetic choice for public service.

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 9:01am@89121Marine. Sorry that you misunderstood my post. I am not a Greene fan, nor do I support Obama. My point for the post was that we actually know more about Greene, and his bio is more impressive on some levels, than Obama. Neither are qualified to lead, and have issues with communicating adequately.
IMO, the most glaring difference between these two men is that Obama has a prettier smile. As far as politics go, neither one impresses me.
