Amazing Picture: German Shepherd Gets Stuck in Tight Spot

Amazing Picture: German Shepherd Gets Stuck in Tight Spot

Los Angeles Times:

An 8-month-old German shepherd named Rebel somehow squeezed his head through a hole in an 18-inch block wall at his Desert Hot Springs home Monday.

Then he got stuck.

Rebel may have been chasing another animal or was just curious about the hole, said Sgt. James Huffman of Riverside County Animal Services. The dog cried and whimpered until a friend of the owner  heard him and called authorities. The dog’s owner wasn’t home at the time.

KTLA-TV:

There was enough room to manage a rescue without breaking down the wall and risking further injury to the animal.

One officer worked the dog’s head from one side of the wall, while the other officer worked the dog’s body on the other side.

Officer Palafox pushed the dog’s ears back to ensure the dog would not suffer during the rescue attempt.

Some minor nudging and roughly 30 minutes into the rescue, Rebel the dog was free once again.

“He let us know if we were pushing too hard – but he kept working right along with us,” Sgt. Huffman said. “He helped a lot. You could see his hind legs stiffen to assist in the direction we were going. He knew we were there to save him.”

The dog was released to the owner’s friend.

The difference between a dog and a leftist *******, is that the dog will learn from its mistakes. He will never put his head in that hole again, while the leftists will keep driving down a deep, dark hole until the day they die.

Animals have an instinct to explore–it’s part of survival–those that are too inhibited to explore won’t find food, mates, etc. They are always self-preserving, even while exploring, though…ergo Rebel’s ability to aid in his own rescue.

This is far different than, say, rollin’ into Sow-side coppin’ rock. and gettin’ banged.

      He’s a puppy.

GSDs are very curious as they learn and become the amazing animals that they are.
MIne got hit by a skunk when she was around eight months. Now she knows.

      I bet Rebel does, too.

Rebel made a calculated error and assisted in his own rescue–what more can you ask? Animals are, in general, much smarter than humans when it comes to survival and not killing off its own species at an exponential rate…kudos to Rebel and the decent humans who helped him. Imagine if the wrong humans had shown up.

In my neighborhood, animal control would be called, then the owner would be sited with animal neglect and cruelty, fined and the pet taken away. Of course I live in “lib land” NJ…. where neighbors hate your pets.

I hear you. A dog shelter is the Most dangerous place in this country for a dog to go. Fact; shelters kill dogs and the liberal states’ make it the hardest and most difficult process to adopt a dog. “Sorry but you are not good enough to adopt this dog we will have to kill it tomorrow…..

Good job for a good cause. I love my dogs more than politicians. One particular politician I can think of in this situation I could imagine helping by out getting him a double quarter cheese every 30 min. with a cup to slobber in…. of course I’d pat his forehead with a hankie every day or two to keep the sweat down for his comfort. I’d sit there daily in my folding directing every activity while drink a six pack and watching his head bloat and turn a blue/gray.

Oh No. Poor baby. So glad the neighbor investigated and found him before he hurt himself. My mother’s neighbor left her dog on too long a leash one day and he jumped over a 4 foot porch wall. I just happened to hear him and went to investigate and he was hanging from the leash collar. I could not get to him and had to call animal control. Luckily a police officer stopped by and had enough strength to reach over the fence and lift the dog high enough to get him back over the wall. He’s OK now. Thanks to that police man. May God Bless.

Did the police really need to get involved? It seems to me, a few decades ago, the neighbors would have taken care of the problem without the need for government assistance.

      *****

How many times is the Fire Department called out to rescue a cat in a tree? The call was made to Animal Services, not the police, a perfectly reasonable thing to do — there is a reason we pay for local services, you know. Neighbors may not have known how to assist the dog without causing him more severe pain and/or injury.

OK, a dog gets rescued. That’s amazing (?). What’s amazing to me is that an article like this repeatedly uses the word “shepard” which only appears in Merriam-Webster as a proper name,( i.e. Alan Shepard, the astronaut) instead of “shepherd” which is actually the dog breed’s name – German Shepherd. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/shepard The dogs were bred in Germany for the purpose of herding sheep, hence “German Shepherd”. Well, I guess if you’re gonna be the one in three that uses the wrong word, do it boldly and often, eh? At least they were consistent.
