‘Amazing Race’ Producer Fatally Poisoned in Uganda Shakedown

Two TV producers recently suffered poisoning — which killed one of them — after getting on the wrong side of some local thugs in Uganda, Fox News reports.
Most details aren’t known yet about the poisoning, but what has been gleaned is that the body of Jeff Rice, one of the facilitating producers for the show, was found in Uganda, dead from poisoning. What Rice and his unnamed co-producer were doing in Uganda is not known, but they apparently were not there on business about “The Amazing Race,” the show on which both worked.
The poisoning – also an unclear topic – was apparently the result of a failed shakedown attempt by Ugandan criminals. Following the attempt, both men reputedly became very sick in a manner consistent with poison. So unexpected was the incident that even Jerry Bruckheimer films, the company behind “The Amazing Race,” had no knowledge that one of their facilitators was dead of a poisoning.
Rice reportedly had moved to South Africa after working for five years in Los Angeles. While in South Africa, he cofounded SB Productions, which has been in business since 1999. The website for SB productions described Rice this way:
‘Jeff has an incredible calm nature and a wicked sense of humour,’ it writes. ‘Having played baseball as a kid, he is always ready for the next curve ball. Jeff has the knack for putting together great teams.’
The Amazing Race, which first aired in 2001 and is in its 20th season, shows teams of two racing around the world for a prize of $1 million. The Daily Mail has posted an assortment of photos of Jeff Rice. TV personality Josh Gates tweeted about his death:
Floored by the loss of my dear friend and adventurer, Jeff Rice. You were, quite simply, the real deal. I will never forget you.

Posted on February 22, 2012 at 11:11amThere was time but its long since past that folks overseas would not dare tangle with an American. A healthy respect existed then, not anymore. Its our rotten culture that precedes us and our image of being so violent. I had Australians asking me if America was as violent as the films they had seen. Austrialia home of madmax. I think thats how I tackled that one. Yea, but in some places yes!

I’ve lived in other parts of Africa and poisoning was a very common practice. It was often employed as an act of hatred or revenge but I could image robbery also. Advice to avoid being poisoned is drink from bottles and to never take a drink from a bottle you have not opened yourself.

Posted on February 21, 2012 at 11:51pmYou couldn’t pay me enough to go visit some 3rd world country being an American. You have lawless thugs running around waiting to rob you or hold you for ransom. I never for the life of me could figure out those Americans that were “hiking” along the Iran border a few years back. What would get in your mind to take a flight to the Middle East to go hiking in Iran? Sometime you deserve what happens when you go into hostile areas.

Posted on February 22, 2012 at 3:22amStop being so ignorant. I’m American and have been to Uganda and back and nothing bad happened to me. Neither of these countries are lawless, the hikers were arrested by the government for illegal entry, not held for ransom by thugs but I guess in America you wouldn’t arrest anyone who crosses over from Mexico illegally eh?

I thought all Ugandans were gay. So why would a bunch of gay Ugandans murder 2 of their own? Maybe it was just jealousy? After all, you know how them wacky Ugandans love murdering homosexuals.(sic)
Report Post »Maybe they were just fighting over whose Rainbow Flag was more real? Yeah, that’s it. My flag is better than your flag. Or was it, “my *** is better than your ***?” Can’t tell with those silly Ugandans; like you said, “Maybe the Ugandans just mistook the two Hollywood types for gays?” It’s easy if you watch Hollywood movies. Most Hollywood stars are, well, funny. Take Alec Baldwin, please! Just take him to Hugo Chavez in Venezuela and leave him there. Or dump him in Cuba. He has already said he loves both of them more than America.
I have many friends who are gay but, none that support Obama and his commie friends.

Report Post »Your vain moniker reveals much about you. Why do you feel the need to proclaim to the world your sick sexual disorder and the fact that you may be armed? So effing what? You‘re probably the kind of person who’s ITCHING for a confrontation whereby you can cap somebody, just because you’re pissed off at the world that you were born without a penis. And why do you, by default, assume that the victims in this case were presumed to be queer? That’s worse than minorities playing the race card every chance they get! What vile human trash you must be. And you pervs wonder why we don’t want your kind raising children? They have enough to overcome by the time they’re grown to have psychological whackjobs like you confusing them about who they should be. Homophobe you say? Hell, no! I’ve never yet met a queer I was afraid of.

Ummm, that was a bit savage, don’t you think?
Lesbian’s past posts seem quite rational to me, even if I don’t always agree with her. As for her “packing”, according to a recent Blaze survey, 100% of respondents staunchly supported the second amendment. Why single her out for that? Especially when many posters on the Blaze are very quick to point out who they would like to shoot (without actual intent, I’m sure).
As for a gay or lesbian raising children (which presumably they adopt), I confess to some disquiet with the notion – mainly due to the effect on the child (studies go both ways, so a bit inconclusive).
That said, all the gay people that I know would make better parents than some of the miscreant heterosexuals that you ocassionally read about in the news for various abuses of their progeny.

Actually, only the most mentally deficient would read what I wrote as an indictment of Hollyweird for being predominantly homosexual. Especially since they manifestly aren’t. It was an indictment of Uganda and Ugandans for being blood thirsty bastiches. And since as recently as last year, they seemed to be salivating at the prospects of more legalized murders of, specificly, homosexuals, it seems a right and proper bit of hyperbole to play off such stereotypes of the entertainment industry.
And I quite enjoy the fact that my phallus runs on AA batteries, thank you very much. My swimsuit fits a lot better that way. As for screen names, yes, they do indeed say a lot about ourselves. Of course, if you insist on labelling my screen name as indicative of sexual perversion, I’d have to point out the bestial-ity aspects of “pouncing (on a) porcupine”.

Posted on February 21, 2012 at 9:22pmWhile there may be no more to this story than what has thus-far been reported, my knee jerk reaction is to wonder what was he really doing there? On the other hand, I have a brother who has spent a significant portion of the last six years living in the Phillipines and after listening to him recount his living conditions and how they conduct “business” there, I must say that if what is being reported now is the whole truth, I am not surprised.
As Americans, we enjoy a quality of life and a set of moral standards, that as far as I know, is unsurpassed in the world. While graft and corruption certainly do exist here, it does not always touch each and every citizen personally and in their daily lives. From what I have learned from my brother, life abroad, especially in third world countries, is not the same.
Given that fact, that any sane American would choose to live and conduct business in these places is certainly beyond me. I would never willingly choose to give up my creature comforts for the probability of no working in-home toilet, no shower, no air-conditioning,no refrigerator – you have to walk everywhere lifestyle. And, for the life of me, I do not understand anyone who would – unless there was an ulterior motive at work.

Posted on February 21, 2012 at 9:15pmVery likely an opportunistic group or gang preying on obvious tourists coming into country. Makes me think of the gang attacks on European tourists leaving Florida airports in rental cars. They were taking advantage of the license plates marked as rental cars and hitting the ones that appeared most vulnerable. A number were killed before the tactics were figured out, then the state changed the law for their rental car license plates. Having lived in Tampa for five years I was familiar with the plates, and being stationed in Germany during the attacks, that news shook the Germans in particular who loved to fly into Miami for vacations.
