Posted on December 29, 2010 at 10:43pmWhat a supreme waste of resources and a needless conflict. Peru has MUCH bigger problems to contend with than illegal fireworks.

Posted on December 29, 2010 at 11:40amHard to tell, but if those were plastic bags, the static electricity may have caused the powder to ignite.

Posted on December 29, 2010 at 3:19pmYou’re probably right. I couldn’t see clearly enough to know. But they were being pretty careless with those fireworks, so I think they deserved what they got.

Posted on December 29, 2010 at 10:50amTypical of heavy handed police. Public safety is supposed to be their highest priority. First secure the area, then confiscate the contraband. I’ll bet next time they use a little more caution when dealing with explosives.

Posted on December 29, 2010 at 9:57amSounded like a lot of Spanish being yelled, were they illegal aliens afraid they would be caught and deported? Crowd control is never easy for the Police, but handling fireworks can be deadly. I always dread New Years and 4th of July because my neighbors always light illegal fireworks, of course by the time the Police come you cannot prove anything, so it’s best to just be prepared with the water hose close by. I hope nobody was seriously hurt. Of course you know they just went home and brought out more only probably set up shop at a different spot. May God Bless.

Posted on December 29, 2010 at 11:35amPerhaps you should read the title for more wisdom. This took place in Peru where, by the way, most people speak Spanish

Posted on December 29, 2010 at 9:09amSeems to me that they should have cleared out the crowd first then got rid of the fireworks. They were lucky that a lot more people weren’t hurt or worse.

Posted on December 29, 2010 at 8:24amWhat a mess! I hope the policeman is alright. Just what I want to do, be responsible for confiscating explosives amidst a crowd like this…..NOT!

Posted on December 29, 2010 at 9:10amI saw several of the officers just blithely tossing the fireworks into some kind of bag. That’s not something I would personally do. While they were really, really lucky only one or two small ones went off, if that bag had ignited, they’d probably be picking up body pieces. While fireworks don’t generally need to be handled like sweating dynamite, they were clearly being handled way too casually.

Were these officers even told how to handle confiscated fireworks at all then? If that is the case then someone in the chain of command has either not been aware of the need to inform officers, or has been negligent in their duties.

Posted on December 29, 2010 at 2:36pmSnow,
I would assume (I know, I know – ASS – u – me) that these officers are used to handling firearms. How could they not realize that fireworks are cardboard tubes crammed with gun power and a variety of chemicals to make the pretty colors?
I guess down in Peru they’ve never had anyone set off a cherry bomb or an M-80, or do something really stupid like put that M-80 underneath a metal garbage can and then have to pay the cost of removing said garbage can from windshield of the neighbor’s car. (For clarification purposes, let me just state for the record that I was nowhere near the scene of that particular crime or involved in any way, shape or form, other than laughing hysterically when I saw the vehicle).
Well, even if they never had any of those life lessons, I would chance to say they will handle fireworks in a much more respectful manner in the future.

Posted on December 29, 2010 at 8:20amLuckily nobody was seriously hurt. Otherwise the fireworks arch-criminal would be in serious trouble.

Posted on December 29, 2010 at 10:07amCould not get the video to work on these computers here; but based on the way the story goes and the other posts, it seems a major blessing indeed no one was hurt. God alone knows the police anywhere in the nation have enough problems to deal with every day they did not need this to have happened.

Posted on December 29, 2010 at 12:54pmYes, please take away all their fireworks. I hate when they shoot them all night. they are like sticks of dynamite exploding in the air while I am sleeping. I am not down there, I am in mexico, which is probably worse…. I hate fireworks now….
