Amazon CEO Pledges $2.5M to Defend Gay Marriage

OLYMPIA, Wash. (The Blaze/AP) — Amazon.com founder and CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife, MacKenzie, announced Friday they are donating $2.5 million to the campaign to defend Washington’s same-sex marriage law.
With the gift, Washington United for Marriage has raised more than $5 million for its referendum campaign.
“It’s a game changer for us,” said campaign manager Zach Silk in Seattle. “It puts us in unique position to win.”
But, his group is still the underdog, he said. In 32 previous elections nationally, same-sex advocates have lost.
The Washington election may be the turning point, thanks in part to the Bezos’ generous donation, Silk said.
Amazon founder, president and CEO Jeff Bezos and wife Mackenzie Bezos announced a gift Friday, July 27, 2012 of $2.5 million to the campaign to defend Washington’s same-sex marriage law. (AP Photo/Evan Agostini, File)
“They understand what‘s at stake for Washington families and what’s at stake for the country,” he said. “We’re at a tipping point, and they really understand this is an historic moment, and they want to be on the right side of history and want to make history.”
Last month Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and co-founder Bill Gates each donated $100,000 to support the law.
Referendum 74 was certified for the November ballot in May after gay marriage opponents in the group Preserve Marriage Washington turned in more than 240,000 signatures. The referendum seeks to overturn the gay-marriage law signed in February by Gov. Chris Gregoire.
Preserve Marriage Washington wants to preserve marriage as the union between one man and one woman, “because marriage is a unique institution that is profoundly in the common good,” the group says on its website.
The same-sex marriage law was supposed to take effect June 7 but has been put on hold.
A “yes” vote on the referendum upholds the law, and a “no” vote overturns it.
Same-sex marriage is legal in New York, Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Washington, D.C. Maryland legalized gay marriage this year as well, but that state also is poised to have a public vote this fall.
In Maine, voters will decide on an initiative to approve same-sex marriage three years after a referendum overturned a law passed by the Maine Legislature. And in Minnesota, voters will decide whether to pass a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage.
So far contributions from same-sex supporters to Washington United for Marriage far outweigh contributions to Preserve Marriage Washington.
Silk expects the organization seeking to repeal the law will receive an infusion of cash late in the campaign from the Washington, D.C.-based National Organization for Marriage, which was involved in ballot measures that overturned same-sex marriage in California and Maine.
Silk expects the other side will spend $4 million to $7 million.
“We take them at their word and we need to dig deep,” he said.
Silk said that despite the recent big-name donors, 80 percent of his organization’s 8,000 donations have been for less than $200.
“This is a grassroots movement,” he said. “This is an issue of fundamental fairness.”
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

The evil must stop or stronger actions need to be taken against all who support them.

Posted on July 27, 2012 at 6:24pmCEO and wife look like less than 40 years until they are dead and face the Judge. The Judge has already said “you are of your father the devil” to such people. Homosexual acts are “shameful” and an “abomination”. “such will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” So this CEO zeros out of this life and heads to hell unless he repents and accepts the Son Jesus Christ in the next 40 years. He ought to remember God can take him tonight in his sleep in a painful horrible manner including his whole family. Mess with God then die when and where He chooses having Him as your Judge. Very foolish. This man would die if his heart stops for just 3 minutes. And then he meets God as his Judge with no defense for his sins. No defense means capital punishment comdemned to hell. Very sad. God loves this man. Satan hates this man yet he follows and honors satan in his decisions.

HOMOSEXUALITY was first declared in the old testament (Leviticus 18:22: “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; such a thing is an abomination.”), there are numerous ones in the NT.
Romans 1:26-27 (”Therefore, God handed them over to degrading passions. Their females exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the males likewise gave up natural relations with females and burned with lust for one another. Males did shameful things with males and thus received in their own persons the due penalty for their perversity.”)

I gladly stand, therefore, with clergy around the country who are celebrating the fact that President Obama has stated what many of us have believed for a long time, namely, that all God’s children should be allowed to enter into marriage.
The fact that our president was willing to evolve his thinking around this issue sets a good example for the country.
Life progresses and ideas change, even in the realm of religion. Furthermore, many of us, gay and straight, are going to be paying attention to the campaign rhetoric around this issue.
The day will surely come for our country (and faith communities) when this issue will seem as senseless as old debates about interracial marriage, children of mixed racial heritage, or worse, if people of color actually have a soul.
(Yes, this was a real theological debate during the days of American slavery.) I predict that state legislatures will eventually see the light of this human rights issue, and when that day arrives, there will be open-hearted, open-minded clergy ready to perform marriage ceremonies for all God’s children.
And in my opinion, that will be a good day for America and a good day for churches all around this country.

Most of us here on this site know “we are not all God’s children.” The Bible clearly states most people are children of satan. I don’t buy this satanic argument that sends people to hell. If we were all “God’s children” why would we need to accept Jesus Christ? You are a angel of satan.
Check out Matthew chapter 7 as many will say in that day “Lord, Lord“ ”cast out demons, prophecied, and proformed miricles.“ Jesus will say ”I never knew you“ ”depart from me”
So I say from your writing you may not even be saved. “If you love me you will keep my commandments.” Love of God is first about obedience not some mushy feeling. “The beginning of wisdom is to FEAR God.”

If you were actually a Christian and read the word of God you would understand that bans on interracial marriage are unbiblical. Moses married an Ethiopian woman and God struck his sister with leprosy whe she complained about it.
On the other hand, homosexual is listed as one of the behaviors that excludes individuals from heaven. Gay marriage is a mockery of God’s order and the only Christians who seem to miss this are those who go to “churches” that are wholly owned subsidiaries of the democratic party.

Very foolish thinking. God Judges as He decides even as satan rules this world at God’s tolerance. God would not be a righteous God if He ignored the wicked vile sin and refused to judge. In fact, God would be going against His scriptures. God judges now and in the future a final judgement his flock, individuals, and nations. Examples of the start of God’s judgement. Average wealth in US falling, home prices falling, food prices rising, savings being inflated away, destruction of the US dollar, and US federal debt. These are real and tangible ways to establish the beginning of God’s judgement. Most people can feel the pinch. It’s going to get alot worse.

History shows us that countries that have waged war and practiced genocide don’t always arouse God’s wrath to the point where he punishes the country as a whole, though presumably those individuals who are most responsible will answer to him in the next world. But letting the gays marry their loved ones, that’s so bad that his punishment will be immediate and tangible and aimed at all of us indiscriminately, and take the form not of earthquakes and hurricanes and other disasters normally referred to as acts of God, but of letting the economy go down the toilet, and those of us who attribute the economy going down the toilet entirely to the foolish decisions of financial and political leaders, are failing to see the obvious connection to the true root of our economic problems, letting the gays get married.

Posted on July 27, 2012 at 7:06pmVAN SUSTEREN: GOP NEEDS TO EXPLAIN ‘WHY THEY GIVE VITTER A PASS’ |
Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren criticizes the GOP’s embrace of Sen. David Vitter after he admitted to frequenting prostitutes.
Yesterday, Bill O’Reilly stated flatly that Vitter should not be in the Senate.
Do ACTUAL christians support/condone
adulterers and with hookers
a sitting US senator?
This is the pub party: HYPOCRITES, CONTEMPTIBLE and the latest on Vitter:
A trusted aide to Louisiana Sen. David Vitter resigned Wednesday morning after ABC News reported that he had been arrested for attacking his ex-girlfriend with a knife, and had an open warrant for his arrest in Baton Rouge on a drunk driving charge.
The aide, Brent Furer, worked on the Republican senator’s last campaign, and has spent the last five years posted in his Washington office to handle, among other things, women’s issues.
An ABC News investigation out this morning revealed that Furer had repeated brushes with the law dating back to the 1990s.
Those who have had encounters with Furer told ABC News that his presence on Vitter‘s payroll raised serious questions about the senator’s judgment.
Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, said it concerns her that the senator has talked so forcefully as an advocate for women and an opponent of drunk driving, and yet kept someone with Furer’s background on his staff.
Why no rage on adultery?

REI donated sleeping bags to Occupy Wall street – which I didn’t agree with – but I still do business with them because they are able to get items, provide tons of customer support, etc.
For you extremists:
Do you support abusing drugs? No? Then burn all your CDs, delete your mp3s, etc. What about your favorite clothing stores, fast food chains, etc? I guarantee you that there is something your favorite company is doing that are not completely aligned with your beliefs. Posted on July 27, 2012 at 11:46pm@INDIANAJAN There is a difference here. Government officials are making official decisions like allowing a company to come into their area. What christian conservatives are saying is don’t use these companies. This is a strictly political call by Amazon because they want to set up a new law to call for sales tax to be collected. Amazon is powerful enough to be able to conform to this and many smaller businesses will not. This is left wing (not democrat) pandering for votes for them.

It is one thing to spend money to make society more consistent with nature in having unions/marriage between an unrelated man and woman. Such an investment enhances society and creates and reinforces the vital family unit that is beneficial to America.
