Amazon.com Defends Selling Pedophile’s How-To Handbook

Amazon’s stance against censorship may be getting “5 stars” from a handful of its customers, but the big bookseller is getting single-star ratings and threats from consumers promising to “take their business elsewhere” in protest of a controversial volume on its Kindle sales shelf.Amazon.com Defends Selling Pedophiles How To Handbook

“The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure” is getting overwhelmingly negative reaction from online shoppers who have used comments like “absolutely disgusting” and “Are you insane?” in posts that pan both the book and Amazon for selling it.

More than 1,400 comments had been posted to the Amazon listing early Wednesday evening; about 99 percent were critical of Amazon’s decision to sell the volume and many posters were indicating they would boycott making purchases there if the company continued to offer the “Pedophile’s Guide.”

Among the handful supporting Amazon, comments generally praised Amazon for not exercising censorship but blasted the book.

“This is my attempt to make pedophile situations safer for those juveniles that find themselves involved in them, by establishing certain rules for these adults to follow,” writes book author Phillip R. Greaves.  “I hope to achieve this by appealing to the better nature of pedosexuals, with hope that their doing so will result in less hatred and perhaps liter [sic] sentences should they ever be caught.”

Among Greaves’ suggestions are alternatives for children too small to use actual condoms and the use of “pin-up pictures of fully clothed juveniles” for stimulation to avoid arrest.

Amazon has issued this statement: “Amazon believes it is censorship not to sell certain books simply because we or others believe their message is objectionable.  Amazon does not support or promote hatred or criminal acts, however, we do support the right of every individual to make their own purchasing decisions.”

But one consumer wasn’t persuaded.

“So what’s next?” they said. “A do-it-yourself book on how to rape and torture women?”

The book, on sale for Kindle devices for $4.79, is currently ranked the 158,221th bestseller on Amazon.

(Editor’s note: As of late last night, Amazon has pulled the book from its site. You can read our follow-up report here.)

While it is deplorable that that book was ever written it is not Amazon that is at fault for the content of the books that it sells. To dictate what is acceptable or not is dangerously close to the “people” deciding that The Bible should be banned as pornography (any of you older than 30 should recall the multiple cases that have gone on about the bible, works of art from Da Vinci, Michelangelo etc.). So many of you love to opine that hte government is stripping us of our rights, and here you are demanding the government strip people of their rights. Do any of you think anymore?

I think we all agree he can write what he wants. The line is drawn in our support of Amazon’s selling of it. If they pull the book because they are suffering financially then who is making the censorship choice?it’s about being an honorable company, something that offering this book indicates they lack. I want the publisher’s name as well. Money talks and I’m taking mine elsewhere this holiday season.

    Well Amazon…

…I have just called my agent, to CANCEL ANY FURTHER INQUIRY into getting my books placed on your site.

Like any American these days, I could “use the money”… but I’d rather go hungry than have anything to do with supporting your filthy system.

I realize that the ‘loss’ of the sales from my titles won’t bring your empire crashing down. But I damn-sure will have nothing to do with adding to it.

Amazon can tell the authors of currently three books on pedophilia (yes, there are three found so far) http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=29065 that they will not sell these books and they would not be censoring the authors in anyway.

Amazon or any other retailer who profits from the exploitation of children, provides a venue for pedophiles to sell their product that aids in teaching other pedophiles how to put a children into a position to be molested and then how to “safely” molest a child, is aiding and abetting the sexual abuse of children. Amazon doesn’t have to tell the “authors” not to write their books, they can say they will not sell them for the author.

I spend a lot of money with Amazon – this was the last straw for me. I’ll find another company to make my purchases through as I refuse to financially support a company that openly defends and supports child molesters.

(I hope Beck see’s this story and pulls his books from Amazon as other authors are starting to do over this issue)

Unbelievable! I certainly do not believe in censorship and believe in free speech but as with all rights there is responsibility. A book that, in the author’s view, is about rules for adults when they take advantage of children is beyond disgraceful. Having sex with children is illegal – there are no rules to make it safer or nicer or whatever else is in the author’s sick twisted brain. Hey Amazon, how about a book for terrorists on a more humane way to behead someone? There should be no books sold that talk about how to do an illegal activity especially when you are talking about an activity that exploits children.

Amazon.com a name that should bear the brunt of the anger each of us with a child in the “Preferd Pedophile age Bracket” should feel. They just hung a target on our kids back. Flood their e-mail crash their servers, but most of all stop buying from a company that put’s profit ahead, of the screams of a child in the hands of a prevert they sold a How-to-Manual too.

Good or bad. The author will likely lose cash along with amazon. The free market of ideas and products prevails once again without government regulation.

The first amendment gives great freedom of expression, with great freedom comes even greater responsibility. As Amazon is now finding out, there are consequences to actions…as there should be.
The victimization of another is clearly a reprehensible and amoral act, promoting such behavior WILL have consequences. I am not sure if I will return to Amazon to make purchases. This was such a lapse in judgement which depending on the number of books sold will be doing a long lasting damage to our society.
