American Atheist Leader Calls for the ‘Eradication’ of ‘Fundamentalist Christians’

American Atheist Calls for Eradication of Fundamental ChristiansAmerican Atheists, a non-profit that claims to protect the rights of atheists and to ensure the “absolute separation of government and religion,” always seems to find itself in the middle of controversy.

As if the most recent Ground Zero cross lawsuit the group launched isn’t enough to inspire widespread angst, an explosive new blog post on the organization’s web site advocating for the “eradication” of fundamental Christians (and Islamists) is certain to make waves.

In the post, Al Stefanelli, American Atheists’ Georgia State Director, makes a bizarre connection between radical Muslims and Christians. In speaking about “fundamentalist Christian and radical Islamic doctrines,“ Stefanelli says that both are ”dangerous, damaging and disingenuous.” Throughout the blog post, he continues to create ties between these two groups, but declines to truly define them.

American Atheist Calls for Eradication of Fundamental ChristiansAside from making this comparison, he goes on to write that “most of these people” (again referring to both fundamentalist Christians and Islamists) “lack the maturity and intelligence” to act in “a socially acceptable manner.” Many of these adherents, he believes, are “sociopaths,” “psychopaths” or simply “delusional.”

Certainly some would agree that Islamic extremists (and perhaps fringe Christian believers) are sociopaths or psychopaths, but Stefanelli’s comments are so vague it’s impossible to discern who the targets of his rage truly are. Without a clear definition of who, exactly, he’s referring to, one’s mind runs wild with wonderment.

After all, the problem of radical Christianity is – in the views of many – a non-factor here in America (“radical” here essentially means “violent” or “dangerous”). So, who are these villains that Stefanelli is so frustrated by? Radical Islam is certainly a fear in many places across the globe, but the way he speaks about it one would assume it’s knocking on his front door. In one of the most bizarre portion of his text, he writes:

The fact is that fundamentalist Christians and radical Muslims are not interested in coexisting or getting along.  They have no desire for peace. They do not want to sit down with us in diplomatic efforts to iron out our differences and come to an agreement on developing an integrated society.

They want us to die.

He then claims that radical interpretations of the Bible and the Koran require that believers “kill the infidel,” but he provides no evidence that Christians here in America are seeking to do anything along those lines.

He encourages “mainstream believers” within both faiths to be “intolerant of fundamental Christianity and radical Islam.” Based on his writings it seems Stefanelli also takes issue with atheists and non-believers who are content accepting the beliefs of those he finds so unintellectual and radical.

It doesn’t take long for Stefanelli to take aim at conservative media and political leaders (including Glenn Beck), either. He writes:

The atheist community gets angry when we read about the antics of idiotic, ignorant and imbicillic [spelling his] politicians and celebrities like Palin, Bachmann, Beck, Limbaugh, Pawlenty and Santorum. We post our thoughts on our social networks and our blogs and try to expose these creeps for exactly what they are.  Most of the GOP, just about all of the Tea Party movement and even some Democrats and Independents should be ashamed of themselves for going out in public wearing the equivalent of an intellectual diaper.  We criticize them for their rejection of science in favor of their fairy tales and write our letters and support our advocate organizations when our legal rights are abrogated.

He quickly turned up the volatility, continuing:

But the underbelly of fundamentalist Christianity and radical Islam does not operate in the legal system. They don’t respond to lawsuits, letters, amicus briefs or other grass-roots campaigns and they must, must, must be eradicated.

Considering his group’s involvement in fighting Christians and conservatives on a variety of issues, one wonders what, exactly, he means by “eradicated.” Also, the fact that he laments believers refusal to cower to lawsuits and the like seems to show that his beliefs are rooted in a stance against a more general, non-radical American Christianity.

American Atheists most recently launched a legal complaint against a steel cross that was found at Ground Zero following the September 11 attacks (here’s a post Stefanelli wrote on the matter). According to the group (the same organization that coordinated July 4 plane banners in cities across the nation), the cross’ inclusion in the 9/11 Memorial and Museum constitutes an “impermissible mingling of church and state.”

Below, watch Stefanelli’s call for atheists to get more active in making their voices heard:

This is a good example of what happens when kooks, oddballs and misfits are given too great a voice in society. Everything from Atheists to feminists to gay rights advocates crawl out of the woodwork, squinting against the light of day anxious to pursue their hateful vendettas against the rest of society.

In a way, they’re creating a doomsday scenario for themselves by identifying who they are, which just might place them on somebody’s most wanted list when the time comes….and it is fast approaching.

My church has opened schools, and health clinics in numerous countries around the world in places that are remote, and very poor. Food and comfort is provided to hundreds of children and their families who would otherwise starve. We have over 200 people providing mission work in third world countries providing healthcare, and housing to devastated areas. We provide food, and services to several organizations locally. We are only one church out of thousands that perform similar services. I would like to see this atheist group provide a similar list of the good they provide the needy. Every organization can have bad apples but if you look at the fact that more than 200 million people in this country believe in a higher power, and try to live good lives, and provide to someone other than themselves, you would see the reality of the few in comparison that comprise the ‘bad apples’.. I have no problem if someone prefers to be an atheist. That is their right. What I don’t understand is the irrational hate Atheists have for believers. It defies logic, and demeans their opinion.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER Now Under Attack In AMERICA! ** Mike Huckabee Exposes THE GOD HATERS!!
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrDefIuwZEo

“Hi, this is Mike Huckabee and want to thank you for taking my call.

“I‘m calling today because the nation’s largest atheist organization, the Freedom From Religion Foundation, has claimed that our historic National Day Of Prayer is unConstitutional. This is going to prevent the time honored tradition from taking place ever again.

“Can you imagine our children and grand-children growing up in a society where we are forbidden to pray as a nation?

“It’s unthinkable, but the reality is that all public mention of God would be erased if Freedom From Religion Foundation wins this case.

“If they see a victory here, there’s going to be a renewed effort to rewrite our National Motto and the Pledge Of Allegiance, both of which refer to our Creator.

“That’s why we have to speak out against this right now. As a Christian, I’ve joined the National Committee For Faith And Family, which is dedicated to keeping God alive in our society and defend our God-given right to pray for our country.

“With so much at stake, I need you to be involved now more than ever, and help us protect the National Day Of Prayer. Thanks, and God bless you.”

I am an Atheist and don’t find the need to organize other than for my country. Not sure what these freaks are looking for. As an Atheist I have never felt the need to organize. I believe the whole organizing part of the religion is what doomed it for me. These people are just another group trying to take advantage of the progressive movements push for political correctness the past several decades. They know the spiritual awakening for the Christians is about to happen and they will lose this momentum they have gained. Atheists beware when they serve Kool-Aid at the convention.

@sumguyinohio, I am going to say a very powerful prayer for you that God will present himself to you sometime today, keep your mind and eyes open. You will see a sign soon and hopefully you will “see the light” and not try to chalk it up to coincidence.

When I was 17 years old I was very depressed and saddened by the loss of 2 very close relatives, I was suicidal. I prayed and asked the Lord to send me a sign or I was going to check out. I told him I would wait a few days for his sign. When I opened my eyes from the prayer there was a small burning globe of light floating in the middle of the room for around 2 seconds then it just imploded on itself and disappeared, no sound, no smell only a beautiful light. I am very blessed that I have seen Him, he is real and burns in my heart ever since. Praise God!

      @TURDHEAD.
I live in a pretty decent size city. There are all manner of charitable groups under the name of a whole slew of churches that run homeless shelters, soup kitchens, shelters for abused women, runaway and abused children, alcoholics, drug addicts…. I cannot find one charitable organization that pays homage to atheistic beliefs. Looked in the yellow pages, and even checked with an on post group where I am stationed, and there are none that I can find.

As far as charitable groups in Muslim nations. I saw some real charitable stuff that came directly from the mosque, and those in charge while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. One of the most unique, was an event that I would say is similar to how churches here have a vacation Bible school. Instead of kool aid, cookies, a craft and Bible lesson, the Sunni religious leaders took Shia kids, held them down, and used a cordless drill to punch holes in their knee caps. Has to be one of the most unforgettable events when you see the aftermath. Not something you forget any time soon.

During the past 100 years, as many as 259 million people were murdered at the hands of atheist governments (i.e., socialists, communists). During the 2000 years after Christ was crucified, the number of people murdered at the hands of heretics (e.g., crusades, inquisitions, witch trials) was about 260 thousand people. The only thing we as Christians can do for atheists is to pray for them. Lucky for us, it also makes them so mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That reminds me of a scene in “Fighting Tempations” that opens with a closeup of the reader board outside the church that reads, “Pray for your enemies, it will dirve them crazy.” Yashua teaches us to pray for our enemies and those that spitefully use us. It’s not always an easy thing to do… but, we do it.

As for me, I cannot fathom how anyone that travels more than half an hour from a city and sits on a river bank or atop a wooded hill can look around themselves and NOT see G-d in all things – at the very least realize that there MUST be a ‘higher being’.

I pray (“hope” for the fence-sitters) that the author of this article experiences an eye-opening before his time runs out. Eternity is a very, very long time. He need to choose where he intends to spend it.

That’s exactly the point. People like this mean buisness if they had the means. Just like the radical Islamists. I might be a bit naive (actually am ultra cynical) but I’m not aware of extreme Christians plotting physical, social, & political war against non-believers.

This dupe had made a major blunder in his cognitive leap to join the two groups. He’s obviously a RADICAL/INTOLERANT himself to make not allowing any reference to a deity his life purpose.

May he rest in peace….soon. lol! (meant as a joke, not a threat)

You know where I live I had been mocked, insulted, and even threaten by these sorts. Heck they are the same sort that threw windows at my church, and recently burned down the church next to mine. In all honest I seen about the same level of fanatical hatred from most atheists as I seen at the radical islamics.

Oftentimes, it seems those most ardently against genuine faith are those who have endured bad experiences at church, abandonment by parents (especially by a father), or some other trauma.

Saying Christians are “dangerous” is not far removed from being ok with placing them into “re-education” camps for their, and society’s, own “good”. I suggest American Atheists should tread very carefully, although Christians are sometimes called to endure suffering for the sake of the Gospel.

AA, and others, attack that which they believe is responsible for their own misery in life. Some Christians do this as well, by the way.

King Jesus, and those He knows and that know Him, will endure long after everyone at American Atheists is dead and forgotten.

California already has reeducation centers for students who graduated from Christian schools or were home schooled in a Christian based curriculum. This is required indoctrination for admission into California’s colleges and universities much along the lines of Mao’s “Cultural Revolution” run by the CCP party‘s RED Guards and in California’s case it is run by the state’s education establishment; really not much different than Mao’s , Hitler’s, Lenin‘s or Stalin’s operation in their respective countries in their time. The requiring of indoctrination into the religious worldview of the Marxist secular evolutionary state religion enforced by the judges always precedes the establishment of a tyrannical totalitarian police state in search of humanist utopia. No wonder California is self-destructing.

      Matthew 5:11-12 (NKJV)
“Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Old Testament followers are told they will delivered from their enemies.
New Testament followers are told they will be delivered TO their enemies. Much like Paul when he was on trial we then need to not defend ourselves, but preach the truth of the Word to our enemies and pray for their salvation.

Arr_day, you will rot in he11 for what you are doing to God’s Word. When you pick versus’ from the Bible (God’s Word) and interpret them falsely, you are misleading. Jesus did not tell people to kill others. In verus 11, it is stated that Jesus was giving a parable about not wasting the abilities the Lord gives you. I pity you.

First and foremost there is no “seperation of church and state”. All the 1st amendment gaurantees is that the state shall not create nor show preference to one religion.

Secondly, is anyone else sick and tired of these people who mock those of faith? I personally have no dog in this fight as I have my own set of beliefs but to me people like Bill Maher and this goofball are just freaking jealous that some folks have that little thing called faith and are to ignorant to understand it.

Excellent question. He wants Christians to abandon the belief that God raised Jesus, a Jewish carpenter and actually God in the flesh, from the dead. He has taken the ideas of the KKK, the Muslims, and the White Supremacists and inserted them into the Gospel and claims that’s what we believe. In short, he’s aliterate (a real word for those of you who enjoy the complexity and fun of the English language).

What we have to tell this already “dead” man is that we don’t want him to die, but to find Jesus Christ and live. Then he’ll understand peace, charity, and love as they were intended to be understood and enjoyed.

      Thanks Lone Ranger
