American Bar Association: Significant Number of Obama Judicial Nominees ‘Not Qualified’

ABA Declares Significant Number of Obama Judicial Nominees Not Qualified,

The American Bar Association, the largest law and voluntary professional association in the world, has declared a number of President Obama’s potential judicial nominees “not qualified.” The New York Times reports that the rejection rate for Obama’s judicial suggestions “is more than three and a half times as high as it was under either of the previous two presidencies,“ and called the number ”significant:”

“The association’s judicial vetting committee has opposed 14 of the roughly 185 potential nominees the administration asked it to evaluate, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The number of Obama prospects deemed ‘not qualified’ already exceeds the total number opposed by the group during the eight-year administrations of Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush; the rejection rate is more than three and a half times as high as it was under either of the previous two presidencies, documents and interviews show.”

The ABA provides law school accreditation, continuing legal education, information about the law, programs to assist lawyers and judges in their work, and initiatives to improve the legal system for the public. The 15-person judicial vetting committee is appointed by the bar association’s president, who serves for one year, to fill staggered three-year terms. The Committee Chairman Allan Joseph told the Times that the panel is fair-minded, and puts in long hours reading candidates’ writings and conducting confidential interviews about them with dozens of judges and lawyers.

“Our role is to provide the only peer review in the whole process, and we think that is valuable — particularly with a lifetime appointment under consideration,” he said. The committee does not disclose identities or its ratings of judicial prospects unless the president goes on to nominate them

The unfavorable vetting of Obama’s suggestions throws a wrench into the politics of judicial nominations, as the Times notes that in recent Republican administrations conservatives have accused the ABA of liberal bias. In 2001, President Bush stopped sending the ABA names of prospects prior to their nomination, a practice that President Obama may regret restoring. The White House indicated that it will not nominate any person that the ABA deemed unqualified.

The Times notes that the administration is still perplexed with their low batting average by comparison when it comes to finding judges the ABA likes, and the Times reports that the administration has criticized the organization for placing too much value on courtroom experience when rating possible nominees. Many of the failed Obama suggestions are government lawyers and law professors.

But are qualified candidates being sacrificed for diversity? The New York Times includes these two curious paragraphs in its piece:

Mr. Obama has made it a policy goal to diversify the bench in terms of race, gender and life experiences. Many of his other female and minority prospects received favorable bar group ratings and went on to be nominated and confirmed; the judges he has appointed have been more likely to be women or minorities than those of any previous president.

Still, the demographic composition of the 14 prospects opposed by the panel has proved to be awkward. A person familiar with the ratings said nine are women — five of whom are white, two black, and two Hispanic. Of the five men, one is white, two are black, and two are Hispanic.

“Although we may not agree with all of their ratings,” Obama’s White House counsel, Kathryn Ruemmler, said in a statement regarding the Times story, “we respect and value their historical role in evaluating judicial candidates. The president remains committed to addressing the judicial vacancy crisis with urgency and with qualified candidates who bring a diverse range of experience to the bench.”

    One of the dirty little secrets of federal government workers is that they actively enforce racism in their daily work. Judges rule against whites and for blacks. A white man at the welfare office barely stands a chance, even in a wheelchair. But any black can walk in and get all the free stuff with a wink and a nod.

    I have a black friend and she explicitly says this is what’s happening and she knows lots of black friends in the government doing the very same thing.

    It’s funny, they of all people should know that racism is evil, but the moment they get even the tiniest bit of power, they go nuts, and become more rabid than any KKK member.

    Obama doesn’t care about the qualifications of these black, latino, and women judges, all he cares about is that their track records already show that they will rule for the minorities and women predominantly.

      A caller on Rush Limbaugh yesterday said Obama’s entire career has been occupied with pro-black advancement to the exclusion of everything else. He added that Obama wanted to be president in order to continue that policy and that is why he seems detached from everything that comes up, as Tom Brokaw observed, “He seems to have a detached indifference about him.”

      Rush said he thought he was right, but that such a policy favoring blacks and non-whites has been going on for quite a long time now, and it has resulted in a less than prosperous black community, as indicated by stats revealing AA for blacks has caused the population to become less powerful and prosperous as a group.

      While, as a group, liberal, pro-black, non-white policies might well be undermining non-white (especially black) populations, much harm is being done by this community organizer.

      First of all, he is putting in place a LOT of people who are anti-white and they are Obama’s arms to his anti-white policy, not just Obama himself. Mark Lloyd, for example, is changing the scene of many local news stations by threatening the networks with heavy government action if they do not hire unqualified blacks for their news teams. I have said many times almost any black person will take care of other blacks at any cost, and this means giving them entitlements weather they deserve it or not. I have witnessed blacks come in to the veterans clinic and many of them will not talk to a white person esp if they know they do not qualify. and some of the blacks here bend over backward to help their own kind but treat white people like they are a burden. the blacks have no patents with whites but are very tolerant with with their own . Like I have said many times, this is not a good country to be white in. Everything is geared to ensure minorities have the advantage.

      Your right problemsolver, we have been r.a.p.e.d as a nation. Now they just fleece our only remaining wealth when it become valued enough, our land. This is the same thing they did back in the late 1870′s and again during the great depression, and now, once again with the housing crisis. It was homesteads and the established frontier lands the banks had stole off the people back in the past. It is only a housing crisis this round because the land is occupied by houses. Our worth as a Nation is only determined by the value of the land they own, the resources there in, and also the level of security one can feel while occupying their land. In other words, they won’t have it taken back off of them by unfair practices.
      Did the Kennedy not enact that silver could be used to back money ?? This is a true standing order, is it not ? Don’t you believe this is why he was killed ? I do , I feel it was the bone he threw to the people. He knew it would be his end.

      This would devalue the federal reserve note, which is based only on speculators, manipulating it how they saw fit.
      We must reinstate #11110 and quit the UN, Print American currency based on Silver.
      The elite love their gold. Using silver and considering gold worthless would free us from them, or manipulate them into trading their gold in for silver.

      I’ve witnessed what you write of so many times it has turned me highly critical of blacks in general. Of course, black high crime rates, and an inability to learn and succeed, blaming whites and their ancestors for it, has added to my resentment. But it is these constant lies told by blacks and white liberals, blaming whites, that probably was the last straw, because I know full well, as most people do, that black failure today is the direct result of black inability, and positively, absolutely nothing else. Period.

      That’s why I began speaking out against black charges. And I noticed from other sites that literally thousands of other people are doing the same, including non-black minorities who have had enough as well. It looks like the tide is beginning to change, and I‘m pretty sure it’s due to internet news and videos starkly revealing black crimes we’ve never been privvy to before. Up till a few short years ago, all our news was from the MSM that edited out racial news they felt we shouldn’t see.

      Too I have to give the community organizer credit and the racist blacks associated with him for lifting the edge of another curtain that was unknown to most, revealing abject anti-white hate from the likes of Jeremiah Wright and others.

    So the right think activism is okay when they want to appoint right wing judges to overthrow Roe, but consider it wrong to have are balanced views and to appoint judges who will protect our basic liberties.
    It used to be presidents, up until Bush Jr. did not use a political measure for picking judges. Obama dose not use political measures for picking judges either. However it but it is a good idea to attempt to bring more diversity to the courts that represents the United States population today, as old white men are the minority.

      BurnedFart – The objective in appointing judges is NOT to bring diversity to the court. It is to appoint judges who will follow the law and apply it equally amoung the population. Diversity has NO place in courts. By definition, your diversity BS in court establishes different standards for different groups which is unconstitutional. It is however, consistent with liberal racism and your tendencies to segregate groups in order to create victimhood and misery you can exploit for political gain to satisify your evil lust for power.

      They’re not only unqualified most every single one of them holds an anti-white bias, with some so full of hate they are totally unable to render any kind of decision that is even close to objective. I haven’t found that to be true of MOST conservative judges.

      Anybody who thinks that Ginsberg, Sotomayor, and Kagen are qualified to be on the SCOTUS should take a closer look at what they have done and said and their backgrounds which reveal a pampered sect of people who are divorced from the realities of life. Also, their addition to the court gives it the appearance of a ghastly side show.

      However, the dominos are now beginning to fall, and it won’t be much longer before the only thing that is important throughout the West is who has the most firepower and manpower, because the entire scene is set to ignite into hostilities that will make the Arab Spring seem like an Arab picnic.

Obama only cares about what political gains he can make by his legal appointments. This is why Sotomayor and Kagan are in place now. Sotomayor has seen the Supreme court go 65% against her decisions. A terrible number..yet Obama appointed her. Then you’ve got Kagan actively involved in and cheering on Obamacare…while now in the position of determining it’s constitutionality.

      The problem with Washington is: TOO MANY ATTORNEY’S.

      They (and I mean Michelle and Barrack) know just how far they can go because they know the law…
      This also applies to others who have law degrees and serve in our Senate and Congress.

      I also think we have too many “back scratchers”. They seem to pass laws they have no business passing, because they are scratching each others back, or what most call “wheeling and dealing”.
      Pork spending has got to stop…. Too much money being spent on Welfare.

      I live in Virginia and I hear women bragging about not working because they get free baby sitting, free food, free this, and free that. They have two or three children in tow, and they are receiving approximately $1500.00 per child thanks to taxpayers like you and myself. One woman was bragging about just having her manicure, pedicure, and hair extensions, completed at the Walmart across the street, while paying for three carts of junk food with her WIC card. There was no milk, flour, sugar, bread, greens, veggies, fruits, etc., just premade meals, cola’s, chips, dips, etc. in those carts. I’m sorry, but I find this extremely wrong.
      As she left the store I followed behind with my cart and witnessed her getting into a brand new Escalade with 30 days tags,driving away. I just looked up at the heavens and asked why? Could it be because ‘our government’ isn’t doing their job? I reckon!

    Liberals prefer to judge people by the color of their skin. Conservatives prefer to judge people by the content of their character. Liberals don’t think the person who is best qualified for a job should get that job (unless it’s the NFL or the NBA).

    It’s bad when presidents do this stuff on lower levels. It’s even worse that Obama nominated Kagan and Sotormayor for the Supreme Court. It’s a pretty sad day in America when someone is excluded from a job search because of the color of their skin and their sex; like white men being excluded from the Supreme Court nomination process. One bookmaker gave 90-1 odds that Obama would select a white male as his first Supreme Court nominee. That’s just sad.

Women are half of our population and there are more college-educated women than men in America. Why on earth wouldn’t a President try to reflect half of the population when making appointments?

I still believe Kagen and Sotomayor will simply follow the liberal slant in their decisions for the most part. They are there to serve a master just the same when FDR loaded the court. Yep, I know.       I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume that the ABA is full of ACLU and trial lawyer ambulance chasers . So after making that assumption who cares how highly they rank one of their own kind. Bottom line is a bunch of lawyers is as about impressive to me as den of snakes, dangerous but utterly revolting.

      Echohawk Alito and Roberts are strict constructionists,they’ll adhere to the constitution and not add their personal beliefs to their rulings.

    One thing that really slays me about Obama’s two justices is this: Mr. Obama’s wife, along with Bloomberg, et;al are trying to tell us what we can and cannot eat, because “America is obese.” Well, these two women are not on the svelt side. These politicians, politicians wives, and judges all want to dictate to us, the tax paying American People, what is good for us. Well, I say to them; PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH! Socialism is for the people NOT the socialist!
    Thank You and PIG OUT FOR THANKSGIVING AMERICA! Also, please give to whatever non-governmental charity you can afford too. Like your local church so they can feed the poorer of us unwashed masses. Happy Thanksgiving all. May God Bless us all and have mercy on our souls.
