Richard Holbrooke, special U.S. Special Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan, has died.
On Friday, Holbrooke suffered a torn aorta and underwent more than 20 hours of surgery to repair damage to his heart. On Monday evening, President Barack Obama praised Holbrooke’s work for the country and called him a “tough son of a gun.”
Previously, Holbrooke served as an ambassador to the United Nations and as chief negotiator during the Dayton Peace Accords, meetings which ended the brutal war in Bosnia. His service career spanned more than 45 years and was reportedly putting the “finishing touches” on a major report assessment of American military and diplomatic efforts in Afghanistan.
Holbrooke is survived by his wife, Kati Marton, two sons and two stepchildren.

Posted on December 13, 2010 at 10:46pmHis professional ineptness is reflected by the loss of true American hero’s lives and expended national treasure in the 10 yr Afg/Pak conflict. Twenty-one hours of surgery and suitcases of cash don’t buy a pass for this rich man – easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle.

Posted on December 14, 2010 at 12:12amRichard Holbrooke served his country whenever called; He deserves and gets a salute for that from any good man or woman. It is a tremendous sacrifice of self and family and may God Bless Amb. Holbrooke and his family. Not every servant carries a gun in service of his country, Nor do they need to.
It is always easy to sit back and judge, isn’t it. I’m sure Calvin is terribly proud to have such a brave and caring patriot carrying his name.

Posted on December 14, 2010 at 12:29amYou got that right….No loss….Another Progressive (aka Marxist) bites the dust. One of Lippeman’s boys. He started out in Vietnam like Elsberg throwing in the monkey wrench…Part of the Hillary Clinton (Sol Alinsky), Kerry crowd….All bent on ‘transforming’ our country….When are people gonna wake up to the depth of infiltration into our government.

Posted on December 13, 2010 at 8:21pmMr. Holbrooke will be sadly missed in the international community.
It is a shame that his career will have the “black” mark and stigma on it from being associated with the O administration.

Posted on December 14, 2010 at 1:06amI don’t believe he will have any black mark on his name for being part of the Obama Administration and shame on you for even writing such a thing about any public diplomat whose entire adult life was spent in foreign policy on behalf of his country.http://maboulette.wordpress.com

Posted on December 14, 2010 at 5:32pmI doubt he has much choice in the matter of resting in peace. When you get right down to it, you can’t find many ambassadors who accomplished something important, save Ben Franklin.
