Americans Ranked World‘s ’Funniest’ Nationality

Who says the world doesn’t see the United States in a positive light?
In a recent international poll, America took the top spot for being the world’s funniest nationality (i.e. the best at making others laugh).
Badoo.com, a social network and dating web site, asked 30,000 respondents from 15 countries across the globe to name the funniest and the least funniest nationality. Who came in second, you ask? The Spanish. In third? The Italians.
Now, you’re probably wondering who took home the dishonor of being labeled the “least funny.” We’ll let Reuters tell you:
The voting for “least funny” nationality confirmed the view of American novelist Mark Twain that “a German joke is no laughing matter.”
The Germans won comfortably, ahead of the Russians and Turks.
TIME’s NewsFeed blog has more:
The British, who generally applaud themselves for their wit and sarcasm, did not fare well. They placed just seventh out of 15, behind the Brazilians, French and Mexicans. It is no consolation that they ranked fourth in the least funny category, just after the Turks.
“I‘m afraid that we don’t find some of the results very funny,” said Badoo’s Director of Marketing Lloyd Price, who is British.
Despite some ongoing claims that the U.S. is viewed overwhelmingly negatively among members of the international community, it’s refreshing to see some positive “coverage,” no? “Funniest” is a pretty nifty superlative, if you ask me.

Posted on June 9, 2011 at 9:01amYeah, we are funny cause we are headed down the wrong path…wide is the path that leads to destruction…and people from other nations who know we are no longer number one are having a hay day of fun.
Now if we were on the narrow path, doing things right they might downgrade it to hateful comedy…or is that what they do anyhoo?
Who cares what they think…get back to the narrow path or lose it all.

Posted on June 8, 2011 at 11:13pmOne reason we‘re funnier is we’re more religious and conservative. This makes us happier people, and happy people are funnier that depressed or angry people. Liberals are always angry about something. They always take themselves seriously but value little outside themselves. This makes them selfish and shallow and uptight. Their humor consist largely in ridiculing everybody who doesn’t think like them. The more consciously liberal a comedian is the less funny he is and the more his humor will consist of crude insults and abuse of others.

Posted on June 8, 2011 at 11:28pmExcept that Hollywood is where most of the produced comedy springs from. And we know who rules hollywood, the LEFT!
Report Post »Islesfordian
Posted on June 9, 2011 at 5:19amEven Hollywood, liberal as it is, still is part of the american culture and is more conservative than Europe. Just look at European Cinema.
Comedy may get produced in Hollywood, but the comedians don’t all grow up there. They grow up all over America.

Posted on June 8, 2011 at 10:16pmThe Brits aren’t funny? Hmmmmm…
And now for something completely different.
Report Post »Islesfordian
Posted on June 8, 2011 at 10:46pmThe Brits USED to be funny. The were kings of satire and dry and absurdist humor. But such humor comes from a level of sophistication/education and emotional restraint, things the Brits have forsaken. Now thier humor for the most part is crass or just plain stupid. Once the British stopped being respectable and repressed they had nothing good to lampoon. The last really funny British comedy was Father Ted, which ended its run ten years ago. The Office could be said to be funny, but I found it more agonizing to watch than enjoyable.
Good humor is a facet of a healthy society, one that can laugh at itself. Once a society starts its decline its sense of humor gets darker and fouler, substituting sarcasm and insults for satire and buffonery and it stops laughing at itself and instead laughs at its enemies.

Posted on June 8, 2011 at 11:21pmYou’re right Jumbles, there are a few bright lights in British sketch humor, but I prefer That Mitchell and Webb Look to The League of Gentlemen, which, though funny, is also rather creepy. That’s also my problem with the Office. It’s too uncomfortable to be hilarious. Essential to commedy is watching the fool suffer for his foolishness. Yet the boss in the office rarely does. He makes others suffer because he is the boss. I get it. I just don’t think it is good comedy in the philosophical sense.

Posted on June 8, 2011 at 11:31pmIf you could take the smuttiness out of Friends it would rank as a superior form of light comedy, greater than anything Britain has produced in decades. Frazier was by far superior as gentle satire of the Jeeves and Wodehouse variety. What Americans aren‘t as good at is absurd comedy which doesn’t require that you like any of the characters. The Brits are still good at this at times. They used to be be good at light comedy but seem to have lost the ability or willingness to create charcters that are likeable and funny.

The clown in chief: BO.
The assistant clown in chief: Biden.
Ex speaker of the House: Nancy Polosi – - Pass the bill to find out what’s in it.
Harry Reid, U. S. Senate: Money for a Cowboy Poetry Festival.
Representative Weiner (D-NY): Twitter Photos.
Arnold (I’ll be back) Schwartznegger: Love child cover-up.
Presidential candidate Edwards: Love child cover-up.
President Bill Clinton: Monica Lewenski’s dallience.
There are many more. Oh, by the way, this is not only here in the USA but is happening all over the world as politicians with too much power, who have been in office far too long, get the idea they can do anything they like.
Right now, however, the rest of the world IS laughing AT US!
