‘An Axis to Stick It In’: The Most Entertaining Piece of World War II-Era Hitler Memorabilia Invented

They just don’t do wartime patriotism like they used to. Whereas today, most wars involve nothing more interesting than the occasional bland country Western song, the 30′s saw some of the most imaginative ways to whip up patriotic furor (and indeed, to whip up disgust at the enemy) ever devised. And no, not just by putting Donald Duck in a Nazi uniform:

Though speaking of humor at the expense of the Nazis, the Daily Mail has uncovered yet one more piece of anti-Nazi memorabilia that gave even former President Franklin D. Roosevelt chuckles, and would probably do the same for anyone alive today. Ladies and gentlemen, we give you Adolf Hitler…as a pin cushion:

Entertaining Hitler Memorabilia Begins Hitting the MarketSeriously, that’s real. In fact, Roosevelt apparently even had one on his desk. More photos, courtesy of the Daily Mail, follow:

While this hilariously disturbing item originally retailed for about 69 cents, today you’ll be hard pressed to find one for under $50. In fact, one of these pin cushions retailed for over $400. Also, entertainingly enough, these weren’t the only items produced by this company with the intention of mocking the Fuhrer. Others included a ‘Squealing Hitler’ piggy bank that would start yelling incoherently in German when money was put into it, and a statue of Hitler as a skunk, or “Der Phew-rer.”

How about an Obama nut holder. You pour the nuts into his head where they are stored in two extremely cavernous ears!

Strange but true, I have a wine corkscrew, inherited from a person who would be 112 years old if they were still alive today. This thing seems to be made of brass. It’s a figurine of a boy, and his “you know what” is the corkscrew. It isn’t anything that I ever use. I don’t even drink wine.

we can’t wait until some enterprising pro-American makes some funny memorabilia of that sick obama joke. we’d buy anything esp like the skunk-obama or the axisbutt-obama. maybe some pin the commie sickle on the obama tail game for birthday parties.

some smart enterprising infowars kids in Venice Bch CA already made a lot of FREE obama memorabilia of him as a dictator and they gave it away as FREE tshirts of ”STOP DICTATOR OBAMA” on the boardwalk.

My Grandmother had one of these (top photo) on her desk at Ft. Belvoir, Va.

Probably not allowed now with all the PC cr@p. I wonder if someone will make a BHO one now?

I still have my “Humphrey-Muskie” pin. Does that amount to anything ?

Spike Jones and his City Slickers did a Hitler bit on a 78 I have.
The Three Stooges also towed that barge way back when.

I guess that he thought he was Donald Ente in that dream. As for the pin cushion, some entrepreneur should do a modern make over. Of course it would only sell for a very few months.
Also, I can very well figure out what Trollmonger will post on this one.

      Hi RJJ,

I got your last post. So you had a 67 Sunbeam Alpine? I was looking to buy one in 1972 or a Austin Healey 3000 MK III and ended up with a 67 TR4A with TR6 seats. Those were the days!

Also, I sent sent a request for rain in your area today. I should have figured out the 675 NW from your past posts and your name. Hope all is well.

Hey Monk, Glad you got the message. Yeah, those days were a hoot. Those TR4s were really nice. I had always wanted a TR6, but stayed with the Sunbeams. Picked up a ‘66 Alpine down in Riverview for next to nothing for a parts car, then got my hands on a ‘69 Alpine GT. That was a four seater hardtop. The ‘67 got 38 miles per gallon back when gas was about $0.38…wish I still had that thing.

      Hi RJJ,

I was fortunate not to have any electrical issues with the Lucas electronics on my 67 TR4A.

Glad you got this message and hope you get some rain. I’ll keep sending.

      Going to bed now. Goodnight.

Dang, forgot to add this. Thanks for the attempt on the rain. Just checked the forecast and still no rain in sight. But, it has dropped to 63 tonight. Just walked the dog again and it is very nice outside. Trouble is that it will be back up to 96 tomorrow. It hasn’t been all that bad though. It was much hotter by this time last year, and we had a very mild winter. Hardly had to wear a jacket at all, but my son complained about freezing while deer hunting. LOL, I guess that if had spent as much time as I did in some real cold weather climates he could hunt in a T shirt.

LOL, yeah Lucas The Lords Of Darkness! I swapped my alternator out for one I believe was from a Vega on the roadster only. Made sure that I kept the Lucas alternator and turned it over to the guy who bought the car when I joined the Army. He was the guy who helped me mount the Delco version. I had a TR7 for a while, but didn’t change it out any. Must have been an upgrade that worked. Oh yeah, got 42 mpg on the highway in the Triumph. Another one that I should have kept. Sold it when I left for my first overseas assignment.

JACKTHETOAD, I hear you on that. The guy that bought one of my Alpines was a mechanical engineer and spent his time building and rebuilding cars. He stripped a Tiger down back in the ’70s and installed blue printed Holman and Moody Trans-Am 302. Ran one tail pipe to the rear of the vehicle, and turned the other down just behind the rear axle. Removed the Tiger emblems, and replaced them with Alpine. Really blew some people away with that thing.

Propaganda at it’s best. If, as he deserves, we were to come up with something similar for Mr. Obama, it would get us in trouble.

I’ve heard of a Hitler bust that was picked up as a souvenir by Gen. George Patton, which he used as a door stop…and it contained stains on it from where he taught his dog to p**s on it…
