Back in May, TheBlaze first told you about “The American Bible Challenge,” a new Christian-themed competition show slated to air on the GSN (formerly Game Show Network). Today, we have an exclusive, never-before-seen, sneak-peek video that provides behind-the-scenes access to the upcoming program, while also highlighting its host, comedian Jeff Foxworthy.
As we’ve reported, “The American Bible Challenge” won’t merely focus upon questions designed to explore the past historical significance of scripture. It will, in fact, also delve into the ways in which history’s best-selling book impacts contemporary culture, as teams compete in an effort to win monies for specified charities.
The show will be comprised of 18 teams who compete in the one-hour game show. The faithful players will go toe-to-toe in an effort to show who, indeed, has the most profound level of Biblical knowledge and understanding.
For each of the first six episodes, three teams will compete. Then, the winning group from each one will face-off in two, semi-final games. And, alas, in the final round one of the cohorts will be dubbed champion of “The American Bible Challenge.
Below, watch an exclusive clip that shows an exciting preview and some behind-the scenes action:
“The American Bible Challenge will premiere Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 8 pm ET/PT on GSN.

“Who wrote the bible?”
If you answer “God”, you lose.
Or,
“How many people who actually put pen to paper in the bible actually met Jesus?
If you answer: “1, 2, any, or all of them”, You can join the first guy.

Posted on August 20, 2012 at 2:02amWho wrote the Bible? The Bible was written over 40 generations by Kings, generals, philosophers, peasants, fishermen, poets, statesmen, scholars, etc. Yet, despite it being written over a span of 1,500 years, the authors wrote with harmony and continuity from Genesis through Revelations. They were all guided by one message — God’s redemption of man.
I find it ludicrous that people who have rarely cracked open the Bible, much less read it, should be critical of it.

Posted on August 17, 2012 at 3:16pmScience? God created the elements that man uses in his science. Matter cannot be created nor destroyed. God created the men who use the science that uses the elements. Man is not above God, nor do they understand the workings of God. If man did understand the workings of God they would ultimately use it for evil and destruction, for that is where power takes men. Men have a sin spot in their hearts. Non have been perfect on this earth but Jesus. He came with a purpose and that is to save souls from hell as men were not keeping the laws that showed they were sinners and not perfect in their keeping of the laws. Jesus left his Holy Spirit here for those who are willin to have the Holy Spirit come into their hearts and change them to a better life, with a desire for and motivated to a better life and an eternal life after they die. Men and Science cannot do that. Remember that God will not strive with men always and when the Holy Spirit is taken out of this world evil and hate will be all men have to work with. It is bad now, but it will be a horror show then.

Where did your god come from? Who created it? It’s always existed? Why take the extra step just because you don’t understand it and just say the universe has always existed?
All people were born with a “sin spot”? That’s a bit on the nasty side if you ask me. You must have experienced the naughty touch when you were small. I guess if we are all born evil then abortion isn’t so bad after all. I mean, your monster god used to command people to kill for it all the time. Today the word for it is genocide. Why it needs our help to kill each other for a craptastic piece of land in the middle of a desert is beyond me, but then again, it kept screwing up so much it had to kill itself because of people like you. Don’t mention that it supposedly made you as imperfect regardless of how perfect it wants you to think it is. Wouldn’t a perfect being create something to perfection? I don‘t think this god of yours is all it’s cracked up to be. I think someone is playing a trick on you to get your money.

You tell him to pick one of these two statements, but they are based purely on scientific speculation and theories developed by man. Obviously you don’t want to believe in God so expecting you to come to terms with anything based on a different set of perceptions are going to sound alien to you. However, for your sake, because I understand your inability to accept anything you don’t understand, I’ll add a few words to those rules you mentioned that will probably still have no real meaning to you, but at least I can say I tried.
“God created the elements that man uses in his science”.
“Matter cannot be created nor destroyed” …by man or any other purely natural phenomenon.
Obviously any entity that can set aside various rules of physics whenever it pleases doesn’t have to follow observations made from your purely four dimensional perspective.
Report Post »FoxholeAtheist
Posted on August 17, 2012 at 7:49pmNo, those are two very contradictory statements and obviously bent to make the facts fit religion.
“Obviously any entity that can set aside various rules of physics whenever it pleases doesn’t have to follow observations made from your purely four dimensional perspective”.
This line of thinking is dishonest. It is an example of a goalpost mover which I have referred to in the past. You can pretty much make up anything you want and call it god but until you prove that it exists, you might as well be talking about the airspeed velocity of a Pegasus in Narnia.
Report Post »FoxholeAtheist
Posted on August 17, 2012 at 8:11pmSnaffu, you keep using that word “theory”. I do not think it means what you think it means. A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment.
If you want to set up a test for god, be my guest but first you must define god. Since the definition of god is different for every believer, how is this possible? I can make anything up in my own head and start a religion out of it. If fact, this IS the only criteria for religion. Anything is possible with a believer. Just shut your eyes and keep telling yourself it’s true until it becomes your own reality. Religion offers no rationality whatsoever while science is busy explaining why milk goes bad and why the sun rises and sets, and takes pictures of the surface of Mars, religion is busy burning it at the stake for daring to contradict it.

This too is textbook of what passes for intellligence and enlightenment today..along with it’s innate hostility to people as a whole while boasting of its laurels. Science has put us in better cars, homes,, clothes, foods. and a plethora of other items..but it has not made us better or more intelligent people. Better consumers yes..better people no.
Science is not a religion but it is a devout and zealous belief system to folks like you and others. It is predictable as to the system you are attempting to use on the Believers here to make them feel guilty and inadequate . It does not work…particularly with me and those on meat and not milk. We are the sale of the earth ..not the sugar. It makes you look like a scientific snob. True science does not do this. You should know better but obviously you do not. Pity…you give science a bad name. by this technique.
Lots of scientist here around the NASA Langley Research center. Lots of Moon Rocks here too. You would not make it here..for many of them are also Believers.

Posted on September 3, 2012 at 4:04am@Fox – So there I was, in my agnosticism, before the vastness of the universe and an awareness of my small place in it – with thousands of questions when Atheism bid me to cross over to its freethinking country. When I started on my way, pain and suffering righteously confounded me. Love was a vain imagination. Religion was merely a vehicle for the self-infatuated and desperately insecure – an invention of men. Hypocrisy was the bastard child of cognitive dissonance. As I proceeded, I soon turned my external questions inward and realized I was migrating toward Atheism because of petulance. Why did my disdain have so much power? As I thought a little more, the truth dawned on me: Atheism, aside from its 7 billion gods and counting, does have a God and like the Christian God, it too is triune, albeit mutually dishonoring: Father (Alpha & Omega): Nothingness. From nothing we came, to nothing we will return. Son: Science (man’s applied intellect) by which we know the Father. It’s also through Science that man pursues salvation. But here, ironically, the goal of science is to save us from the Father (Nothingness), whom it has revealed. Finally, Spirit: Since atheism is a material faith – its spirit is entropy (death). The Spirit oppresses the Son (our saving intellect) but in doing so, sets us free from a transcendent accountability into the arms of self (carpe diem!) Death reigns. I couldn’t submit. My ?’s eventually led me to the God who defeated yours. Asylum is avail

Atheists never cease to amaze me; No one can know there is no God, yet Atheists are so smug in their pointless argument against God. Pointless, because if there is no God, then why don’t you just leave it alone? What’s your point? Maybe ridiculing Christians and believers gives you more strength, or maybe you think you’re funny (”I’ll take genocide for…”)…yeah, that’s pretty funny – I couldn’t even start laughing let alone stop. I suppose you rail against God, the Bible, and Christians/Believers to prove it to yourselves, because it really has no effect on us.
Let me reveal a secret to you – things we don‘t understand don’t make sense, so we ridicule it – like, for example, Algebra when we first see “x+y=Z”, but we find when we study it, it does make sense and the learning experience begins. If you took time to study some of the research done by Christian scientists – you might take a different look at your world view. I will be praying for you.
By the way – no one has actually observed the General Theory of Evolution occuring. It’s speculation only. Bacteria, viruses that become resistant to anti-biotics for example are not examples of the GTof E – it is only that the weak ones are killed leaving the resistant

They only stand on the shoulders of other scientists and fit current science to their holy book.
Take this for example.

Listen to the Christian at 2:48
“If we find some experiment that seems to on the surface disagree with the word of God, we go with the word of God.”

They are only looking for science that fits within the confines of their holy book.
When they come up against something that isn’t in their book they usually

>“If we find some experiment that seems to on the surface disagree with the word of God, we go >with the word of God.”
Two things: First, heres the logic behind his statement: Science is sometimes unreliable. When I was a kid, Pluto was a planet. Today, it’s not. Science failed me. What many of my atheist friends don’t realize is their humble place within history. How advanced are we in our knowledge today than say 1000 years ago? What about 1000 years from now? Chances are we probably believe things today that we think are true that science will overturn tomorrow. Good thing my life doesn’t hinge on that. The Bible proposes to come from a transcendent source – the Creator of the Universe. I, too, would trust the Architect over the resident in matters of design. (That’s the claim) Secondly, guess what? the Bible is not a scientific textbook. There’s nothing in it that tells us what the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics is. There’s no discussion of M theory. That’s not why we read it. It is an ancient textbook written by an ancient people with transcendent Truths more concerned with *intra/inter-personal relationships* than the transmission of cold data….

I think we live in the second dark ages. The first was due to a suppression of information. Ours is due to the overabundance of information and the perpetuation of ignorant ideas such as all of yours. Like I mentioned in another post, I used to be agnostic. What got me off that road is asking questions. Even of myself. What I’ve noticed in a lot of my interactions with atheists (online conversations, in my family, friends’ family members) is the seemingly intentional ignorance you live in. Very rarely have I encountered someone who legitimately wanted to understand context. Rarely questions – often snide quips. KayDeeBeau was quick to point out the original posters lazy scoff. As far as the OT Laws, its completely inconsistent for an atheist to judge. Your worldview is predicated on death and unmitigated debauchery. Its the cruel material world we live in baby, deal with it. There is no dogma. No set of absolute moral laws by which to judge yourself or others by. Self is god. So why do you stand as judge over a group of people who lived over 4 millennia ago in the middle east? This reeks of cultural arrogance and worldview hypocrisy.

Ezekiel 23:20 and doted upon her paramours there, whose members were like those of asses, and whose issue was like that of horses.

Don’t give me that “My version” stuff! I’m a Bible believing Christian and those are the words.
HOWEVER>>> The Hebrew language is uncertain. The NIV interpreters stayed with the notion of the metaphorical language in this Apocalyptic section. Which is probably correct.
It literally could mean, however, “She lusted after lovers who naked bodies were muscular and fleshly like a donkey, and whose fluids gushed forth.”
The “she” in this context is referring to Jerusalem and how the population of Jerusalem lusted after Assyria and Babylon. The metaphors of sexual nature were intended to be guttural and degrading, as the prophet scolds Israel for their unfaithfulness and lusts after the creation instead of the Creator.

Posted on August 17, 2012 at 1:44pmWhat’s your point? Are you saying there is something wrong with the Bible because it records the immorality of people and nations? One can not fully understand or know good without also knowing and understanding evil. The Bible was written so that interested people can find God. There is no force or compulsion to follow God. If you seek after God with all your heart, soul and mind, you will find Him. He’s not hiding from you.

Posted on August 17, 2012 at 2:21pmHi Cofmale! As others have pointed out this is a correct translation widely in use today. It isn’t my words :) But allow me to follow up with: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” It doesn’t say all scripture is rated G or PG. The most accurate movie we have about the crucifiction, The Passion, is rated R and Roger Ebert is quoted as saying it is THE MOST violent movie he has EVER seen.
But allow me to follow up on a positive note. The following is the list of men from Adam to Noah and what their names mean.
Hebrew English
Adam – Man
Seth -Appointed
Enosh – Mortal
Kenan – Sorrow;
Mahalalel – The Blessed God
Jared – Shall come down
Enoch – Teaching
Methuselah – His death shall bring
Lamech – The Despairing
Noah – Rest, or comfort.
Now read the right column like you would a sentence.

Posted on August 17, 2012 at 6:34pmCSCRETEN, We are saying that you are wrong if you get your morality from The Bible or from your god. Your god mandated genocide, rape, sexual slavery to name just a few things. It also demads you believe without question or reason while offering no facts to back up any explanations about it or the origin of the universe. It is the driving force behind the anti-science, anti-woman, and anti-education force in this and other countries. It promotes bigotry, murder, war, and superstition.
To say The Bible is wrong does just as much good as saying that about a book of fairy tales. It is no different as they are both works of fiction. However, while I don’t believe in a book of fairy tales, Xtians hold their myths over the heads of everyone in this country and espout them as a fact which they think should rival the scientific evidence others use in an attempt to make their miserable and ungrateful lives as well as this world better than when they came into it. The Bible doesn’t cure anything. It doesn’t explain anything. It doesn’t contribute anything to our advancement. All it does is hinder and divide us.
Report Post »If you don’t believe me, look at some of these posts. You people who all claim to worship the same god can’t even come to agreement on a perverted passage about ***********. How do you expect the rest of us to take you seriously and accept anything you say at all? How do you expect us to not look at you as laughing stocks?

Posted on August 18, 2012 at 11:53amAnd the context of the whole chapter shows in verse 5 that “Oholah is Samaria, and Oholibah is Jerusalem” referring to the capitals of the divided kingdoms after the death of Solomon and how they both prostituted themselves with other nations and other gods. So, the verse you quote is not condoning the behavior.
I doubt the game show will get into heavy topics other than a brief or tangential reference. Since it will be “G” rated, I doubt there will be many references to “Song of Solomon” either.

This is another one of your UnEnlightened statements which does not make good “Nonsense” against the whole of the background of history.
Check out R. J. Rummel..on Democide ..death by government.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democide
Notice this little jewel…by R. J. Rummel.
“His research shows that the death toll from democide is far greater than the death toll from war. After studying over 8,000 reports of government-caused deaths, Rummel estimates that there have been 262 million victims of democide in the last century. According to his figures, six times as many people have died from the inflictions of people working for governments than have died in battle.”
We are talking about Intelligent, Educated, Enlightened, men of letters..degrees here.
This knowledge puts a great onus on the platforms of guilt posed by Atheists and unbelievers when trying to assign blame and guilt on us. Believers be warned here and pay attention to this. You are now armed with knowledge no one wants you to know and will not be taught in most public schools or on television programming ..looking out for you.
Science has done nothing to change this trend in Enlightened times. Bewarned here,.

Posted on August 17, 2012 at 3:11pmWhy would anyone want to shoot the host of a literary quiz? It’s more likely this show will be dropped as deeper examination reveals the contradictions and inconsistencies in this compendium of books and the contestants start to argue with the quizmaster. Maybe they could choose a different book for series 2 – something by Shakespeare perhaps?

Posted on August 17, 2012 at 2:10pmThat’s not love, it’s delusional thinking. If you think about it as a rational person. There is not one bit of empirical evidence indicating that today’s “god”, nor any other contemporary god, nor any god of the past, exists. In addition we know that:
If we had scientific proof of god’s existence, we would talk about the “science of god” rather than “faith in god”.
If we had scientific proof of god’s existence, the study of god would be a scientific endeavor rather than a theological one.
If we had scientific proof of god’s existence, all religious people would be aligning on the god that had been scientifically proven to exist. Instead there are thousands of gods and religions.
Report Post »The reason for this lack of evidence is easy for any unbiased observer to see. The reason why there is no empirical evidence for god is because god is imaginary.
FoxholeAtheist
Posted on August 17, 2012 at 6:52pmG.E.R., once they understand that god is imaginary, it explains quite a bit. For instance, if prayer works and god answers prayers, why doesn’t god heal amputees? Once you apply the logic of “god is imaginary”, it gives a very intelligent answer. You can pray all you want, but god doesn’t heal amputees because god is imaginary.
This can be used to answer any religious question you or anyone you know who might be struggling with spirituality and can be applied to any religious belief system.
