An Honor Beating in Arizona? Iraqi Woman Arrested After Beating, Tying Her Daughter to Bed for Talking to Man

An Iraqi woman living in Phoenix has been arrested after admitting to beating her daughter and shackling the 19-year-old to a bed as punishment for speaking with a man. After the mother admitted to the crime and explained the catalyst was her “Iraqi culture,“ all elements bear the markings of an ”honor beating.”
Phoenix Police arrested 50-year-old Yusra Farhan Wednesday night at St. Joseph’s Hospital where her daughter was being treated for her injuries. The young woman told police her mother beat her with with a shoe before ultimately shackling her waist to a bed to prevent her from leaving the house. 550KFYI reports that the rope was secured by a padlock.
Farhan told officers that in Iraqi culture, females are not allowed to have contact with males, thus a daughter is not permitted to have a boyfriend.
Farhan resisted arrest and called out to other family members present to help her fight off police, according to court paperwork. Those family members also jumped into the fray and had to be restrained in the hospital’s emergency area, according to police.
Farhan was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, unlawful imprisonment, and resisting arrest.
The victim claims her father also struck her several times prior to enduring the assault by her mother.
The battered woman reported that she was set free only to attend school the morning of the 8th. When the victim arrived at school, she disclosed the details of her assault and was transported to the hospital by the Phoenix Fire department.
Mike Broomhead’s team at 550KFYI brought this chilling story to our attention. Broomhead also interviewed a Phoenix police officer involved in the incident. This is an important listen, especially given that Arizona has seen its share of horrific “honor” fueled abuses. Recall that not so long ago, Faleh Hassan Almaleki, another Iraqi, was convicted of savagely running down and killing his beautiful 20-year-old daughter, Noor, with his Jeep.

Islam‘s focus on Justice vs Christianity’s focus on Redemption always stand as evidence of the different world views our faiths teach. Justice requires enforcement, redemption requires love and forgiveness. We are to give others the grace that the Lord Jesus Christ gives to us eternally for dying once and for all for the sins of mankind. If we accept His forgiveness, we are obligated to forgive others, treating them with love and kindness (while we pray for them).
We may not be able to legally enforce love and forgiveness, but we had better begin to tackle this growing problem in America of these “honor” crimes.

I hope you are right about the “slippery slope” argument but honestly don’t see how. Only time will tell.
The other factor to consider is that progressives are simultaneously and forthrightly working to replace the Constitution (you know, because it’s “dated” and all). Our own Supreme Court Justice doesn’t even consider it worthy as a model to be used in Egypt. The biggest question I have is….. what do they prefer to replace it with? I’m not suggesting they intend to replace it with Shariah by any means. Rather, perhaps the controversy/fear over Shariah potentially (I’d emphasize “potentially” if I could there) could lead to their intended desire.

See when athiests use examples of violence by Catholics they always must dig, at least, hundreds of years into the past. That isn‘t to say insane men haven’t claimed the mantle of Christian or Catholic to justify their actions more recently, but those men are always exposed for the anti-religious zealots they actually are. But, to actually find examples where large numbers of Christians, almost always Catholic since they were prominant, used force against others it requires a centuries long look backwards. The reason I am a Christian and not a Catholic is the complete reliance on the Pope who is human and therefore can never actually know the will of God in ways the Catholics seem to believe. The Pope can have no more knowledge of the will of God than any other living person who is able to research the point. This is the primary problem with Catholics, humans are fallible and the Pope is human so why give him sot much control?

I don’t know about you guys, but there is NO WAY my 50 year old mother would be able to shackle me and beat me. Simply no way. Why did the 19 year old allow it? Imagine the self restraint that would be required of a 19 year old to not beat the living crud out of a mother that would do that. Either that, or, more likely, the years of emotional abuse and domination by a tyrannical parent.

I do not know how to describe it (we saw this consistantly while living in the Middle East for two years) It is how they are conditioned day after day, week after week, year after year. And the way the rest of the family jumped to the mother’s aid in the hospital is not surprising. This is common behavior. But, you just don’t know how lucky this girl is to be alive. Had she resisted her parents right then, she would have been killed and body disposed.

I think the mother should be deported after a stay in jail. If young Muslim girls were allowed to live here without the fear of their culture they would realize how great this country is and never wish to go back. The older women have been brain-washed for so long they don’t know any difference. If they choose to live here then they choose to follow our laws, period. If they do not then they should have to leave when such crimes are committed. Our country should not have to accomodate their beliefs when a crime is involved or our laws are broken. They are given an opportunity to live in a free society if they can not adjust to it or honor our constitution and abide by our laws they must pay the consquences for their acts.
